Friends, I can’t even believe it! We’ve spent a full YEAR taking a look at the little things in our lives. Shay and I have absolutely loved meeting up with you once a month to cover a new topic each time.

Today is a very special day! My sweet Grandma Hency turns 89 today! To know her is to absolutely love her! She’s the sweetest who’s always doing something for others. Happy, Happy Birthday Grandma! We love you so very much! XO
Before we dive into the last Let’s Look of 2023, let’s take a little look back at all the topics we’ve covered first…

Here’s a little recap of our year!

If you missed my January post where I shared all about how I schedule/keep track of things for our family, you should check it out.

In February, we shared our medicine cabinets, and you can see all the details in this post.

In March, we highlighted our FAVORITE Amazon purchases, EVER!

In April, we discussed our biggest pet peeves! Some of you agreed with me. 😉

May had us chit chatting about our morning routines.
I skipped the month of June because we were vacationing in Iceland.

In July, we shared our FAVORITE summer find!

August, we took a peek at our very worst habits.

And in September, we shared our evening/night time routines.

In October, we shared some of our irrational fears.
Last month, we talked about our best stocking stuffer suggestions. I’m adding those again in case you need to throw a few things in your cart. You can just click directly on the image to be taken to the item.
And today we’re talking about our TOP COMFORTS IN LIFE! I’m sure this topic can be taken many different ways but I’m going to share those things in life that really seem to bring me comfort and relax me.
- A HOT Bath-YES, YES, YES! This is my favorite way to decompress from the day. I’ll often read a book, watch a show, or mindlessly scroll.
- A Walk + A Podcast = A Happy Girl…sometimes I need to just get outside and move my body. I love listening to great podcast while I take a little walk to reset my mind.
- My Morning Bible Study Time brings me a lot of comfort. The fact that we can study God’s word and spend time in prayer…well, I’m not sure there’s anything that can bring me more comfort.
- ALL of my Family together-I remember being in a Wednesday night Bible Study years ago and a family with older kids talking about how they made sure they had dinner all together once a week. I honestly thought that was crazy because {at the time} I had three young kids and we all had dinner together every night. I couldn’t even fathom how we’d get to the place we are now. But here I am with kids who have commitments, practices, babysitting gigs, etc. and it’s often difficult for us to all have dinner together. Nowadays when we’re ALL together, {my kids would roll their eyes at my use of words but..} it’s almost magical. I mean it. I can see the days of all six of us living under one roof fleeting and these days are gonna be the ones I remember forever.
- Make it Cozy-a cozy night in is a HUGE comfort to me! Give me a cozy blanket, dim lights, and a fire with a great movie.
- COMFORT FOOD-Don’t we all have a meal or two that just is good for our soul? A few items that make me feel that way are this lasagna recipe {this is actually one meal I make around Christmas each year}, meatloaf, and a really hearty soup.
- COMFY COZY PJ’S-A fresh pair of comfortable pajamas always livens my mood.
- A RAINY NIGHT {and we have nowhere to be}-It sounds a bit like I’m becoming a hermit in my 40’s. Promise I’m not!
- CLEAN SHEETS-Add in some Tyler Diva detergent to those fresh sheets and well, you’ve MADE MY DAY! 😉
- LAUGHING…this might be a bit random but is there really anything better? A funny joke, a family story, etc…make me laugh and I’m a happy girl! Earlier this week we had a big family dinner {I was giddy at the table} and when we’d finished eating Tab leaned over to grab Nixon’s Reese’s Pieces Advent Calendar. Without even thinking he opened up Day 21 and ate the candy for that day. The rest of us stared in shock and I said, “TAB!”. That’s his advent calendar and his response was “Nixon, you won’t have anything on the 21st”. We all DIED LAUGHING! I realize it’s not super funny reading it in this form but trust me. We were still laughing about it last night!
Those are my Top Ten Comforts in Life! Now what about you?! Please share what you do to relax, calm yourself and really get comfortable? I’d love to hear!
Thanks for reading, friends! Have the best day!
XO

I love your comforts! From warm and cozy to self care and family time! So many wonderful things!

Thanks, Elspeth!
Loved your list!!!! Now I want to have some lasagna, cuddle up under a blanket for a movie, and top it all of with something from Nixon’s advent calendar! 🙂
BAHAHAHAHAA!!! You can’t have Day 21 but the rest are open!
I love a hot bath too – try and fit it in weekly. Walking and podcasting is also a favorite, it’s how I listen to all my audiobooks too.
Loved the story bout tab I can picture it, it is funny! Have e great week! 💚
Hi Liz! He’s CRAZY and if someone had taken a picture of the rest of us, I’m certain we all had our mouths open like WHAT just happened!?!
Awwwww! I love that so many of our comforts are the same!
AGREE!!
Merry Christmas Erika…thank you so much for your blog and all your hard work. I did the Ruth Bible Study you recommended and LOVED it…what are you doing next or what others do you suggest?
Oh Pamela! This made my day! SO glad to hear that! I’m actually finishing the Seamless study by Angie Smith for the second time. This time though I’m doing it with a group of moms and I always learn more from hearing what others are learning as well. I think we might do her Matchless study in January. Have you done hers before? Her videos are all on YouTube that go along with the study. Seamless is a good one no matter if you have the Bible memorized or have never opened it before. It can speak to anyone!
I love the laugh comfort and the advent calendar story is hilarious!! We bring up funny things from the past all the time and cry-laugh about them even to this day!!
We were all shocked he opened up a random date and ATE it! Clearly, he’s not the one in charge of the advent calendars!
Yes to clean sheets!!! They make me so happy and I swear I sleep better that night ha! I also love rainy days when I don’t have to leave the house!
MeetTheShaneyfelts
Now rainy days when I DO have the leave the house? The opposite of a comfort! ha!
I love a fire going, all the lights out except for the lights of the tree and watching a movie!
That’s what 1/2 of the Slaughters did last night. We watched two different versions of the Grinch with only the lights of the tree!
