I’m absolutely giddy to show you another new space in our house, but I must tell you-as I was uploading pictures, I noticed they don’t do the space justice. I wish I could invite you all in for a little chit chat in my laundry room. 😉

Our house was built in 1998 and is full of weird angles, awkward corners and spaces that just weren’t being used properly. With our family of six, my main goal during our home renovation was to use as much of this house as we possibly could. {Now there’s still a front room that’s kind of a formal living space that doesn’t get used but I did ask if I could add a bedroom above it and some other things. The builder looked at me like I was crazy so we agreed to have as few spots as possible that are wasted. This new laundry room is one of them. If you remember, we switched the laundry room and pantry spaces to hopefully make each a little larger. With the laundry room, we gained space by getting rid of 1/2 of the back stairs. We had a stair case that started in the front of the house {and one that started in the back} and they met mid-way at a landing. We ditched the 1/2 little back stair case in order to gain a larger laundry room. Hopefully you’ll see what I mean when we go inside…

We installed pocket doors instead of the actual door to eliminate doors being in the way and you’ll see we got creative with our washer/dryer location.

Yes, that space is the awkward space that we weren’t using under the stairs. I actually can fit the risers underneath the appliances and still have plenty of space so that’s on my to do list, but it helped me gain lots of space to move around, add cabinets on both side and it not feel cramped.

Just to refresh your mind, this was our old pantry {same space}.

By removing the back 1/2 stairs and using the space under the stairs we gained a lot.

We added built in cabinets on both sides. These house household cleaners, extra candles, sunscreen, etc. The little lamp and jars with laundry detergent and random socks make me happy.

I’m not even sure how many times we uttered the phrase, “Awkward space”, when we were working on this laundry room but I love the way it turned out.

The builder added a cute bronze rack for clothes that need to be hung to dry. {And that one drawer is waiting to get fixed. Don’t mind that.}

The ceilings are really high in here as well so again…”awkward spaces” but we solved it the best way we possibly can. We added extra paper towels and toilet paper in those open shelves.

And the drawers in the bottom hold dirty clothes and laundry baskets.

The cabinets in the top are labeled with “extras” we need periodically.

Cleaners, extra soap, etc.

And laundry baskets down below in the drawers.

Terrible picture but REAL LIFE-ha! Tab had two requests and one was this laundry chute. Upstairs in the playroom area there’s a cabinet that opens and the kids throw their dirty clothes downstairs. It’s REALLY helped our laundry situation.

This is where we keep extra soap, shampoo, kleenex, etc.

When we were working on this space, we focused on finding something really fun that could be tucked away behind that pocket door but would also make me smile as I entered to work on the laundry. I think we accomplished just that. 🙂

The brick floor was a must on my laundry room list! I’ve always wanted this look in some space in our house and am so glad we grabbed this for the laundry room.
