The New Pantry

For almost all of 2022, I was like a broken record talking about our home renovation. I apologize to those of you who read here all year and already know the story, but I’m gonna give a brief synopsis for anyone who’s new. :).

Our family moved into this 1998 home about seven years ago. When we moved in we knew we essentially would need to update almost everything. Our plan was to go room by room until we’d hit them all. The best laid plans…right? We started off doing just that but realized we didn’t want parts of our house to always be under construction, it was taking a while in between projects because we’d lose momentum and we wanted the entire house to look like it was built in the same year. Not some rooms look 1998, while others are 2021, and by the time we get to some rooms they’ll look like 2030. So, we decided to halt the projects and really save so that we could tackle a major home renovation in 2022. We did just that. Every room got something done, even if it was just fresh paint. The construction crew really began knocking things down in March of last year and the next two weeks are completing final punch list items.

We lived through most of the renovation and made some CRAZY memories, but my in-laws were gracious enough to house us for several weeks as they wrapped up the major things at the very end.

Today, I’m sharing our new pantry. When we went into this project we had a few things we REALLY wanted to accomplish.

  1. We wanted our kitchen/living area to be bigger. Those rooms felt tight for a family of six and especially if we had people over.
  2. We wanted to do something different with the laundry room. It was a tiny room with too many doors {in my opinion} and it was hard to get in and out of.
  3. We wanted to somehow gain a little office space for me.
  4. We wanted to update as much as we possibly could.

As we walked our house multiple times with our contractor, we came up with the plan to switch our laundry room and pantry spaces. We brainstormed and came up with the idea to have our pantry right off the kitchen in one of those faux-kitchen cabinet-type doors.

So, here we are. Please welcome to our new pantry….

I’ll try to link as much as I can possibly remember. 🙂

Shay’s mom has helped me with everything {and is currently still helping-I could not have done this without her because there are SO MANY DECISIONS} and she found THE cutest wallpaper! We went with a very traditional and neutral kitchen but decided to bring the FUN into the pantry.

I also used an amazing organizer {we’re still doing some work and then I’ll share her name with you for local friends} who really pulled together how to make the open shelves useful but still cute. I knew I wanted some space to house those kitchen appliances you use frequently but don’t want to leave out all the time. So, this vision was born.

Blues and greens are my favorite colors so when I saw this wallpaper it was love at first sight. I’d considered a blue or green on my kitchen island but just didn’t want to commit. And I’m loving how this space came together. For some reason, I wasn’t a fan of our toaster being left out in the kitchen so we’d pull our toaster out almost daily for breakfast-making and then haul it back inside the pantry. Now, it stays out on the counter all the time and kids throw waffles in it easily. I move our slow cooker {the star of my kitchen-ha!} into the kitchen when using it, but love that I’m not having to hoist it into an awkwardly high place when I’m finished.

My shelves are still full from hosting family over Christmas, but you can see we have places for canned goods, all the baking supplies, medicine, vitamins, and more.

An up close look at the wallpaper. 🙂

And the light fixture. This was one of the light fixtures I thought was cute early on and we snagged it just knowing we’d use it somewhere.

This little canned goods organizers are GREAT!

As are the labeled baking supplies.

And the lazy susan for vitamins.

When we noticed how many cabinets we’d have we decided to add a little beverage refrigerator for drinks. This little refrigerator worked overtime when we had family in town and I absolutely loved having a stocked supply for guests.

I have absolutely no idea when I’ll feel like another room is completely finished and can show you, but for now I hope you enjoyed this little tour of our pantry.

Still to come: Shutters on that window
