Happy, Happy Thursday! What is it about those shorts week feeling like they last the longest? Happens every time! I’m thinking-it’s ONLY Thursday today?! Needless to say, I hope your week is going well!
I have a little Slaughter update post for you guys because it’s been a while! So let’s get down to the Three Things about each of us. 🙂

- Let me introduce you to the new kindergartener on the block. This girl is LOVING it! And my goodness, my mama heart is so thankful we held her back to get more prepared for elementary school. I was so very worried about how she’d do, how kids would treat her with hearing aids, if she’d make friends on the playground, and well my worry list went on and on, but she absolutely loves school! She’s eager to go each and every day with a big smile on her face. My prayers have been answered…we love her teachers and she comes home talking about new friends in her class everyday after school. That’s not to say we won’t have hiccups but for now I’m counting my kindergarten blessings!
- Britt has decided she wants to play tennis! She went to tennis camp this summer and really enjoyed it. She kept suggesting it when we talked about what she wanted to do this year. Some friends invited her to a lesson and she loved it! She can’t wait to go back next week! Maybe this will be her “thing” or maybe she’ll decide it’s not…either way I’m here for her adventurous heart trying something new!
- Sight words! We’ve hit that kindergarten mark where it’s time for sight words. Bless this girl’s heart. With three older siblings, two parents, and {right this second} two grandparents under a roof with her, we’re constantly quizzing her. ha!

- Bowen is busy playing fall baseball and flag football. Between practices and games his sports’ schedule is keeping us all busy! And he’s my kid who struggles the most with keeping up with all his sports’ equipment. Cue the panicked Mom on Saturday morning in search of his flags for a football game! YIKES! That is ME!
- Bowen is in his element with our Fantasy Football League. He wants to talk players, he wants to talk numbers, and he’s constantly scheming on what we coulda, shoulda, or shouldn’t have done. Just last night he tried to convince me to trade Josh Allen {our #1 draft pick and the reason we have matching jerseys} for two other players, one was Justin Jefferson, who was one of the NFL players that made the “Griddy” dance famous. Yes, Bowen gets swayed by little details like that. hahaha!
- My very favorite thing in the whole world about Bowen is he 99% of the time has the best attitude! We’re headed to another kid’s event? Bowen has a good attitude about going to watch. We’re headed to a botanical gardens? Bowen is looking forward to seeing a new place. We’re going to a baby shower? Bowen can’t wait to eat dessert. There’s always that 1% of the time where he turns into a cranky nine-year-old boy but 99% of our time he’s our kid who’s down for whatever and has the best attitude when we show up!

- I feel like this past year Nixon has gone from little boy to slowly transitioning into a teenager. He’s not quite there yet, but getting awfully close. Nix is ALMOST as tall as me. Almost, but won’t be long.
- In Texas you can’t play school affiliated sports until seventh grade so this is Nixon’s year. He’s loving getting to play middle school football with his school friends. I think middle school sports seem to be the glue that really bonds kids from other elementary schools together and football has been no different. This kid has to be at school at 6:00 a.m. four mornings a week, constantly has new scrapes or bruises, and yet he’s still absolutely loving it!
- Nixon is the pickiest eater in my house! I know you wouldn’t have guessed it because, “middle school boy”, but he is by far the pickiest. Basically any meal I make these days that Nixon eats is basically like a gold medal kind of Mom moment for me. And when he gets seconds from dinner, well that’s like Christmas morning. He was a big fan of both the steak and Mississippi Roast so far this week, which means I’m at Super Mom status right about now. ha! Super Mom is praying he grows out of it ASAP!

- Ebby Lee is considered “top dog” as an eighth grader at her school. She’s really trying to soak that in by being involved in as much as possible from volleyball to cheer to National Junior Honor’s Society to FCA basically she’s living her best eighth grade life. And what’s that meme about my kid living her best life and I’m just her ride? That sums us up right now. 😉
- We’ve almost reached that point in life where we can share clothes. We have a few things we pass back and forth clothes-wise but right now we can share shoes! Which is awesome because it’s expanded both of our shoe closets. For family pictures just last week she was struggling with shoes so she borrowed some of mine. Yes, yes, yes!
- This is the first full season of the Bachelorette Ebby Lee has watched. We watched together each week and she was totally into it. Often times we were discussing things like, “why that was a terrible idea”, or “what would you do if that happened to you”. I’m not going to go as far to say the Gospel was all over that show because it wasn’t BUT I do think the show led to the two of us having some amazing mom/daughter conversations that wouldn’t have organically come up as discussion. And well as a mom of four, I kind of live for those moments.

- When asked to list the most stressful life events, I know moving is always pretty high up on that list but Tab and I would both like to add, “major home remodel” to that list. Whew! What a tough seven months we’ve had so far {and hopefully just one more to go}. We’ve lived downstairs, we’ve lived upstairs, we’ve lived with family, and we’ve kind of lived in limbo with stuff all over the place. To say it’s been stressful would definitely be a bit of an understatement, but we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. One of the things we’ve missed the most is sometimes we either put the kids to bed or tell them to go to bed at a certain time and we can close our bedroom door. haha! We can talk without interruptions. We can watch a show or chat about our day. I never realized how much we value having time where it’s just the two of us….until we’re all six living in such tight quarters.
- Tab is busy, busy, busy with all things football and his other 9-5 job. He and some other colleagues love getting to attend every office holiday party for their company which means they travel quite a bit from mid-November to Christmas. He’s got about one month before he really gears up for his major travel season. So far this football season, he’s taken Ebby Lee and Kensington to a game, The Shulls and me to a game, and Nixon is headed to a game in just a few weeks. It’s been a fun one so far!
- I’m also my friends’ biggest fans so today is a special day. My bestie has a new necklace launch with Victoria Emerson and I’m so excited for her! Check out her collaboration!

Shay and Victoria Emerson teamed up to create the CUTEST, daintiest necklaces. They can be worn together or solo! She has initials, stars, hearts, crosses, and more! They really are the perfect little necklace to wear daily! And right now they’re buy one get one free without a code even needed! I’m thinking these will make the perfect Christmas gift for teen girls, babysitters, Grandmas, aunts, and basically any woman on your to-buy for list.

Here I am trying to give you a little sneak peek of my anchor and heart necklaces I wore yesterday. My go-to is the “E” necklace but not only can Ebby Lee and I share shoes but she’s a sneaky jewelry “sharer”. She took the “E” necklace to school before I even knew it was missing. Needless to say, you need to check out these necklaces for yourself! And any woman on your Christmas list!
And that’s a wrap for the Slaughter Six! Now you know what’s been going on with all of us! Hope you guys have a great Thursday!
XO
