Happy Happy Monday!

I’m coming to you this morning {or whenever you’re reading this} giddy about ALL the fun we have in the upcoming weeks. It’s moments like these where I’m reminded that if I were ever offered the opportunity to go back to the days when I had little babies, I’d do it in a HEARTBEAT! But, these teenage days are really fun too!

It’s time for little peek at what’s CURRENTLY happening at the Slaughter House. This is what’s CURRENTLY going down…

Making: LOTS of meals!! Since Bowen is now in seventh grade, he gets to play school sports. {That happens in Texas in seventh grade.} He and Nixon both have long days so I’m either making them breakfast to eat or pack with them plus lunches and snacks. It’s a LOT of food!

Cooking: Haha! ALL the things! I typically cook Sunday-Thursday nights. We usually eat out on Friday and Saturday nights. Plus, with long school days I’m also making breakfast items, hot lunches, and snacks.

Drinking: I just recently started drinking Topo Chicos in these glass bottles every afternoon. I’m not sure why but it’s EXTRA carbonated-is it the glass bottle?! They’re absolutely DELICIOUS!

Eating: Okay, I know I said I usually cook Sunday-Thursday nights…except this week. We went to dinner with some friends on Friday night at a delicious sushi restaurant they’d been telling us about, Oishii. The food was SO good I kept thinking about it all weekend long. I’d talked about it multiple times, shared with Ebby Lee {who wasn’t at dinner with us}, and finally decided to pick it up to-go last night {Sunday} for a sushi at home kind of night. Again, it was SO GOOD! If you’re local and wanna try it, there’s a location in Plano. Please have a Roman and Tribeca for me!

Reading: I’ve been trying to get into this book for a while. Has anyone read The Cliffs?!

Wanting: The weather to line up with my “fall” plans….if only September would cool down. On a positive note, I heard the weather guy say that we’re officially over the really hot days. Temps have peaked and should start coming down. Fingers crossed!

Looking: Forward to all the fun this upcoming season…softball games, football games, pep rallies, Homecoming mums, FALL, sweaters, and so much more!

Playing: Pickleball…my kids-all four of them would agree to go out for a game every night if I was on board. They went last week without me. Not even gonna pretend I didn’t get a little teary they wanted to go hang out together.

Wasting: Lettuce! ALWAYS! When I grocery shop, I overestimate the amount of lettuce we’ll be eating. Happens EVERY time!

Buying: I’ve gotta snag some cute football paper plates from Amazon. Just ordered these!

Wishing: I had cash! The tooth fairy needs to visit Britt tonight and I’ll be borrowing money from one of the big kids!

Loving: Bowen’s summer camp counselor played video games with him this weekend. {Not in person but they played the same game on their Play Stations.}. Just was cool to me!

Hoping: That it’s getting darker outside a bit earlier. Do you feel fall coming, friends?

Marveling: At the fact that Nixon spent the first fourteen years of his life wanting a dog, we finally got one and he likes Champ the least! WHAT are the odds?!

Needing: To get up to change the laundry. Our washing machine wasn’t working last week and it’s SHOCKING how getting behind a couple days, got me behind on laundry for like the rest of my life. ha!

Smelling: The last of my summer scented candles. When the clock strikes midnight on August 31st, it’s ALL apple scents ALL the time!

Wearing: ALL different things! I have some fashion posts coming up!

Praying: I was just talking to some mom friends about the older these kids get the longer my prayer life has become! Does anyone else feel like that?! I’m doing my best to cover them ALL in prayer each morning.

Noticing: Two of the drawers in one of our built-ins messed up and we need a handy-guy’s help ASAP.

Knowing: This kind of post always gets long and I appreciate anyone who’s still reading!

Thinking: About what show I want to watch next…is it just me or are there lots of really good shows out there right now?

Opening: The MOST delicious banana pudding Marla made and brought over yesterday afternoon. Banana pudding isn’t my go-to dessert but hers is magical!

Giggling: Bowen has to memorize a lot of prepositions and he was sent home with a list and song to sing to help. I think I failed Bowen as a mom because just listening to him sing “Yankee Doodle” was a bit of a struggle but when he had to change the words to, “Aboard, about, above, across…” it was hilarious!

I hope you guys have a great Monday!!

XO

Go do yourself a favor. Get the cash for the next five teeth and hide it in your dresser drawer. My kids are old enough that it was $2 and ones were hard to find. I recycled way too many from previous teeth until I just made a stash. Our tooth fairy was fancy and tied the bills in a knot so they always saved them. So easy for mom to find and recycle. Thank goodness no one counted in the early days!

I remember being at a women’s conference years ago and heard this tidbit that has really stuck with me. I think it was Priscilla Shirer. Anyway, it was the same thing, needing cash for the tooth fairy. She went into the own kid’s stash of birthday $$ to get it. She said it’s like how the Lord is with us – it’s already there, we already have it, we just need to use it or ask for it (because maybe we don’t know it’s there) because He’s already given it to us and wants us to use it ❤️
Hope that is encouraging to you. I hope the older kid that lent you the cash felt some pride in making their little sister happy with a few bills 🙂 As you know, you can’t “buy” that feeling of knowing you made a difference in someone else’s morning!

Awww…what a great post!!! Life changes so quickly when the kids are this age – you will be happy to have caught these details 🙂
Having your children WANT to be together, even when you’re not around/directing/planning, is THE absolute BEST things about parenting. I remember after my grandparents died and we all got together for a summer reunion we said, “wouldn’t they be so happy that we are together?” As a parent now I know we were right. Keep up – those prayers, those hard days (months), those sacrifices, the FOOD….you’ve got this!!!!

Oh so many things to say…I couldn’t stand it any longer and busted out an apple candle on Friday, I have been singing Yankee Doodle all weekend too, I feel FALL (even if it is 105 degrees!), and I don’t ever have cash. Does Britt take Venmo?

My teens are really into sushi right now and have their birthdays coming up. This one looks good! I’ve read The Cliffs. I liked the setting and historical parts of it, but thought it was a little boring at times. I agree with the teens vs. babies. We have a great time together, but I’d much rather have the kind of stress that came with younger kids!
