Boredom Buster-Part 1

You Guys!  Today, I had something else {which to be honest didn’t sound that exciting} on the agenda for this little blog but on Tuesday this accidentally went down at my house.  I knew I needed to share with you!

What’s been happening so far this week at my house is school goes down in the morning, lunch time, and then I encourage them to go play together outside, inside, wherever but to do anything other than watch a screen.  No judgment on screens, but I’m saying “no” in the afternoon because we’ve been having a ton of family movie nights on repeat.  #screentimeatnight

*I wasn’t planning on sharing so that explains my horrid pictures.  Just keep that in mind as you read.
If you have kids who are into sports between the ages of five and twelve, are you watching Dude Perfect?  If I’m being honest, I like watching the videos too so probably the top of the age bracket should be endless.  🙂

If you aren’t watching at your house, you should be!  It’s a group of guys who started out performing trick shots while they were in college {at Texas A&M} and they’ve become a YouTube trick shot sensation.  They have a ton of videos that are all so entertaining!

In one video in particular, they have an Airsoft Battle with balloons{They even have a Part Two.}  The last guy with a balloon standing is the winner.  Your family needs to watch the videos and then…

On Tuesday afternoon, Bowen walked downstairs with this idea in mind.  He came up with it all, convinced us it’d be perfect, and happened to be the last guy standing at the end.

We had several balloons laying around that we blew up and taped to their backs.  Instead of airsoft guns, my people all had a ball or two they were throwing at their opponents, and of course, the last guy with balloons on his back was the winner.

We did a little countdown and they were off in the backyard.  The three big kids all had two balloons taped, while Britt had one.

A few of the balloons just fell off as they were running, but the others would be watching and would pop them.  Ebby Lee had only been playing for five seconds when one of her balloons was gone and popped.

This kid came to play.  The eye black must have helped.  #winnerwinner

The balloons didn’t stay taped to their shirts well, but I think it made the game better.
Right before he popped Nixon’s balloon and basically gained bragging rights for the next year around here.

Next time here are a few ideas of how we might change it up…

*I might give each kid more balloons to make the game last longer.  We used all we had this particular day.

*You could split the kids up on teams.

*Make it a little more “capture the flag”-ish with something each team has to get from the other side.

*You could use Nerf guns instead of throwing balls.

First, we’ve gotta replenish our balloon supply, but then Round #2 will be going down at our house.

Here’s to keeping the boredom at bay, mamas!
XO

You could try to safety pin the balloon stub onto their shirts. It'd be fun to do water balloons too!
