We’re Talking HAIR!

Hey There, Tuesday!

I’ve been asked a lot about my hair over the years and have never taken pictures as I’m doing it, but today is the day-well, I should add I’m sharing how I’ve been doing it quarantine style.   And I have a little q and a-hair part one edition for you as well.  I got lots of questions so I’ll answer the second half next week.

I’ve been highlighting my hair since I was in high school so my hair gets dry really quickly.  I have to pretty much “baby” it to keep it happy.  Through the years I’ve tried tons of hair products and this happens to be my line-up right now.

A girlfriend started using the Monat line and I began noticing how great her hair was looking, so I’ve been using that for about five months.  I use the Renew Shampoo, the Advanced Hydrating Shampoo, and the Advanced Hydrating Coditioner.  When I’m out of the shower I apply the Restore Leave-In Conditioner. Then I use my Wet Brush to get it all brushed out before letting it air dry for about thirty minutes.

This is what I was working with.  I’m also a fan of this Redken Split End Treatment and typically apply it to mostly my ends right before I’m gonna dry my hair.  I’m dealing with a pesky strand of baby hairs so as it’s air drying I pin it back to keep those somewhat controlled.  Wanna hear the crazy story about how those came to be?  Oh good!  Because I wanted to share.  😉

Remember this night?  It was the Manda Strong Gala, which we’d been preparing for almost a year before.  Anyway, I went to Dry Bar mid-morning on Friday and then was at the venue all afternoon getting it ready.  I live approximately one mile away from the location so I drove home to change and just freshen up before the event started and I noticed the hair around my face needed to be straightened a little.  Plugged in my straightener but didn’t notice the metal plate was touching the black cord, put my hair in the straightener, and black melted rubber {from the cord} got stuck in my hair.  Needless to say, I was in a hurry and just a bit of a mess already considering this event was happening in an hour!

Over time the black rubber spot got washed out but it broke off some hair so now I have a really short baby hair section I have to deal with.  That’s where the bobby pin comes into play.

PSA:  Make sure your cords are never on the hot metal plate when they’re heating.

I start by pulling up the top 2/3 of my hair and then use my Revlon dryer to dry the bottom layer.  It looks like this when I’m finished.

Then I pull up just the top 1/3, to blow dry the middle and do it all around my head like pictured above.

Pull down the top layer and finish drying.

I try to give it as much volume as possible by drying holding the brush up-especially that top layer.

And voila!  The finished product.  With the Revlon dryer, I can skip a straightener or curling iron because it gives a finished look all on it’s own.  If it needs a little smoothing, then I’ll use a little Moroccan Oil.  Living this quarantine life, I’m not doing much curling.  When I use the Revlon only, my hair can go longer in between washes.
Yes, I’ve had the Dyson blow dryer for several years.  While it dries very quickly, it doesn’t leave my hair looking as smooth and hydrated.  I still use it periodically when I’m in a rush because it’s much quicker than the Revlon, but if you’re asking me to choose my favorite, I’d vote for the Revlon.

I have this T3 curling iron with a 1.25 barrel that’s my go to for the best curls but for everyday use I prefer the Hot Tools curling iron.  The T3 gets so hot {never use the hottest setting} that it really dries out my hair, but on the flip side-the curls stay longer.  The Hot Tools doesn’t damage my hair, but the curls don’t last as long.

Yes, I use dry shampoo, but I don’t use it as often as I used to.  My hair typically looks dry before it gets oily so I’ve been using this on my hair to freshen it up.  I just add the dry shampoo to any oily parts.  I still have a wide variety of dry shampoos I use because of my experiment.  Speaking of that, Round Two is coming soon!

The Bumble and Bumble Dry Shampoo is my favorite so far, but I use all different brands and price points…especially right now when I’m not seeing anyone I’ll use an inexpensive brand.

This made me laugh and YOU ARE MY PEOPLE!  I went SIX days without washing my hair before I finally did it with this post in mind!  I changed it up with YouTube-ing some ponytail variations and hats.  😉

Years and years of highlighting have left my hair on the dry/damaged side so unfortunately, that’s how I avoid greasy hair.  I would recommend dry shampoo in between washes for you though!

I’m not doing anything.  🙁  I was supposed to have a hair appointment today actually.  I’m afraid of messing things up more than helping if I were to try something at home.  That’s how I feel right now, but in a couple months you might find me attempting my own highlights in my bathroom.

Right now, I’m using Monat products.  My girlfriend, Olivia, sells them.  You can contact her via her Instagram.

I have the T3 that’s 1.25 inches and the Hot Tools is 1 inch.

Thank you for the questions!  My plan is to finish answering hair questions AND share my thoughts on another batch of dry shampoos.  Hope you’ll tune in!

Here’s to us all having a good hair day!
XO

I've been using Monat for a little over a year now & LOVE it!!! It has done wonders for my daughter's hair, too. Have you tried their dry shampoo?? My daughter really likes it. I personally don't really like any dry shampoo, so I don't have an opinion on it but she loves it. I've had the Revlon dryer for a while now, but don't care for it. I don't know if I just can't get the hang of it or what. I feel like it's waaaay more time consuming than my regular hairdryer. I'm sure it's user error!!!! LOL!!!
