Let’s Look-Easter at My House

Have you guys listened to The Blessing by Kari Jobe?  It was on in our house yesterday and let me tell you-Britt Slaughter sings with no abandon when it comes to that song.  She has most of the words wrong, but she’s singing loudly and it’s the sweetest.

Check out what it’s time for….
Let’s Look with Shay!  Every month we dive a little deeper into a topic and we invite you to join us.  Share how you handle something, we’ll share with you and the hope is we all learn a little something.

Here are the topics for the rest of the year…
Next Wednesday, Shay and I will be sharing our March Edition since we skipped it last month.  We’d love to have you join us!

Today, is all about Easter at My House…this could really be taken two ways-Easter decor at my house or how our Easter traditions look.  Since I haven’t even thought about Easter decorations at my house this year, we’re gonna chit chat about how the Slaughters celebrate Easter.

First and foremost the reason we celebrate Easter is to honor that Jesus was crucified on a cross, buried in a tomb, and three days later he resurrected to heaven.  He is risen, is what it’s all about.

“As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. ‘Don’t be alarmed,’ he said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, “He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”  Mark 16:5-7

Our celebrations every year look different.  It’s a tough holiday for me because I’d love to get to see my Missouri family but the weekend isn’t really long enough for the drive.  On the flip side, I really enjoy getting to attend my own church that weekend.  I know my parents enjoy being at their own church too so I also hate to ask them to come here.  Plus since it’s on Sunday, basically, whoever travels needs to leave right after church on Sunday anyway to drive right back.  We do get to spend the holiday with Gary and Marla, but in a perfect world-we’d see them all!  Also, my first Easter as a grown-up wife I realized it’s hard to have a meal ready to eat right after the church service.  How’d my mom, aunts, and grandma do this every year?  {On this note, the first and only year I made Thanksgiving meal all on my own it wasn’t ready until 8:30 p.m.  hahaha!}  They made it look so easy!  Throw in a college football spring game or two and well, every year is unique!

The Saturday before Easter our church {typically, but not this year} has a big Easter Eggstravaganza with bounce houses, petting zoos, and egg hunt.  We’ve gone to this every year since it began and it’s something my kids look forward to.  Our church also has a Saturday night service right after the event, which is what we did last year {and loved it}.  Our plan was to do that again this year.

In the year’s past, we’ve invited friends over to our house after church, we’ve gone to a restaurant after the service {typically somewhere most people aren’t interested in on Easter like Mexican food}, or we’ve grilled/cooked out later to have more like an “Easter supper”.

This year we’ll be celebrating from home for another special reason as well.  Nixon turns 10 on Easter Sunday!  He’s requested a nice, big breakfast spread.  His exact words were, “can you make a breakfast buffet?”  hahahaha!  I made him narrow it down a bit.  We’ll watch our church service online, Nixon’s second request is a family edition of wiffle ball, and then we’re ending the day grilling steaks again per the birthday boy’s request.

We always make the Resurrection Rolls and go through the Easter story Resurrection Egg-Style {typically we have a set from our preschool but this year I’m gonna have the kids come up with items to put in each egg that go along with the story.

That’s a look at what Easter will look like in the Slaughter House this year.  What are your plans this Easter Sunday quarantine?

Thanks for reading today, friends!

A breakfast buffet does sound like a great start of an Easter birthday. Hope he's having a wonderful day!

Easter birthdays are fun but tricky! My son’s 4th birthday was on Easter and he loved it. All the candy, the whole family together, and a birthday! Happy birthday to Nixon!
