Hey Friends!
It’s TUESDAY TALK, which means Fancy Ashley and I have teamed up to host a fun, little link-up where we invite you to come, share, and chat about anything and everything.
To recap our year…
In March, we all shared some gifting ideas…think baby shower, new baby at home, wedding shower, etc.
Today, I have a new topic for you…DECLUTTERING.
Every year when January rolls around I get this itch to organize, declutter, and clean out every single inch of my house. Do you remember earlier this year when I bought enough organizational literature to keep us all reading for days? The problem is most of those books I read in January would require me to spend days organizing and sorting through allll the things. Who has time for that? I sure don’t, so I skimmed the surface and called it a day.
Enter the start of the school year. Kind of like January, it’s the perfect time to have a FRESH START. I’m always organized when it comes to our meal plans and {most of the time} our schedules, but you guys…back-to-school Erika is at the top of her game. #letshopeitlasts But my closets and cabinets are suffering!
I finished the last book I was reading and headed to my book cabinet to see what was up next. This book, Decluttering at the Speed of Life caught my eye. I’m pretty sure I heard angels singing when I picked it up as well, but I’m not positive on that. This book is gonna change my life. #ihope {By the way, the author, Dana, has a blog. You should check that out as well, if you suffer from a case of the clutter.}
In this book, Dana gives practical ways to declutter when you have five minutes here or maybe an hour there. That’s the toughest part for me is finding time to make a huge mess {isn’t that how it always works first? NOT with her method!!} and then finding time to reorganize it all.
I’m over halfway through and it’s really speaking to me…my plan is to set aside time daily. Maybe only five minutes one day and more on the days I have extra time. As I was reading, I just kept thinking…it’s so good! I need to share this with my friends! If you have issues with too much stuff, I highly recommend this book!
One thing I’m learning about myself is I prefer lots of open space in our home. It makes me feel so much better AND it’s so much easier to keep clean. I’m a work in progress, girls! But I’m working!
If you have ANY helpful tips, tricks, or {I’m gonna go ahead and say it} books I should be reading {HA!}, please share!! And if you’ve read this book, please leave me your thoughts!
I’ll try to keep an update for you as I’m making progress. Here’s to getting rid of ALLL {errr, MOST} of the things!
Happy Tuesday!
XO
Don’t forget to link-up with us!
I need this. However, I still don't want to read it. If you could just shoot me a quick text every day and tell me what to do, that'd be great. Thanks, friend! 😉
I want to read this one!! I heart decluttering!!!
This is so good! I love to declutter! I need to read this so I feel motivated to do the kids closets! Their closets need a back to school clean out for sure!
My favorite decluttering/cleaning resource is FlyLady.net. Have you heard of it. Give it a try!
Yes!! I need a good decluttering book at least once every 6 months to give me a kick in the butt! That Inspired Chick
I haven't read this book, but somehow I stumbled upon her blog and I loved it! Her methods seem so simple and "why haven't I thought of this before!" kind of methods but they work! I specially love the one that says put one thing away at a time, instead of making piles and not getting around to putting those piles back in their place, genius!! Please keep us posted I love hearing about people's decluttering methods!
Thank you for the book rec. I am all about getting rid of clutter. I like wide open spaces in my home and in my classroom as well.
Erica, your blog is looking SO good!!!!
I really need to declutter. LOL. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
