Let’s Look-Meal Planning!

I’ve been contemplating the descriptive word I’m looking for when describing how much I can talk about dinners and what I feed my family….boatloads of time?  a bunch of time?  plenty of time?  a ton of time?  I’m not exactly sure but if we were in the same room visiting over coffee not only could I talk about what dinners I’m making but I’d want to hear what you’re feeding your people as well.

Today, Shay and I have teamed up to talk Meal Planning.  We’re gonna share how we do it and we’d love to for you to share how you tackle it.  Now one of us has literally written the book on meal planning and the other has just been doing it for years so she feels like somewhat of an expert herself.

On Sunday afternoons I sit down at my computer with our schedule for the week in hand.  I pull up our local grocery store’s online ordering and I also pull up Walmart delivery.  I decide what we’re going to eat and then immediately add to cart so I’m not making a long shopping list.  Anything I’m buying that’s not meat/cheese/produce is simply going to be less at Walmart so individual bags of chips for lunches, Greek yogurt, apple sauce, etc…I get all of that from Walmart delivered right to our front door.  The rest I grocery pick up from our local grocery store on Monday mornings.  Very rarely do I go inside the grocery store unless I just forget something or need to run in to grab just one or two items.

These September evenings are busy from football games to practices we have lots happening in the evenings so I make a slow cooker meal for those nights we get home to eat late.  Any nights I have a little more flexibility I make a stove top or oven type meal.

Here’s a little peek at what our dinners have looked like lately…
*Grilled Chicken Salads
*Bacon Wrapped Chicken Bites
*Homemade Pizza

When school started I began using the Cozi app for our family calendar/schedules.  There’s a place in that calendar app to include meals for the day.  I don’t use it for breakfasts and lunches but I do add our dinners so no matter where I am if I’m thinking about how I can prep for dinner I just pull up that app to see our meals.

That’s it!  I’d say my biggest tip is to plan ahead. If the clock rolls around to 4:00 p.m., and I don’t already have groceries or a plan for dinner then it’s just not happening.

How do you handle meal planning?!  I’d love to know!  And what’s on your menu this week?

Next month we’re chit chatting about our holiday decor storage.  Guess I’ll show you a picture of how our attic looks when a bunch of tubs are just tossed inside.  😂😂😂  You won’t want to miss it!

    Hi Christy!

YES! I'd choose the starch your kids prefer…rice, pasta, mashed potatoes, etc?
