Guys! Can you even believe this is the last Let’s Look of the year?! Shay and I have covered a ton of ground this year. It’s been so much fun!
Here’s a little recap if you missed any posts…
Today, we’re sharing our favorite holiday traditions. The Slaughters have some things we do every year while other things we try and decide it’s not for us. Here’s a list of our faves…
*Our elementary school teachers load up in a bus and stop in different neighborhoods to carol for the children. It’s fun to see neighbors and teachers all bundled up around the holidays. It’s a fun tradition we look forward to!
*Ice Skating-We’ve skated on real ice and the fake stuff as well. Either way, ice skating around the holidays just feels a little magical.
*Decorating for Christmas-this isn’t my favorite chore but once it’s up, I’m so happy.
*Fancy Night Out-We began this tradition years ago with the Shulls. We get a little dressed up for a fun dinner out around Christmas. We don’t exchange gifts with them or the kids so this is a fun alternative and something Tab and I look forward to.
Know why they’re smiling so big?! Because we were about to embark on one of their favorite Christmas traditions….
*A Carriage Ride! -This is such a great night…dinner out followed by a carriage ride and the most gorgeous lights in Dallas. My kids love this so much! And so do I. 🙂
*Christmas movies-we love snuggling up and watching a Christmas movie. The 12 Dates of Christmas is what we happened to watch this past weekend.
*Christmas Eve Church Service-our favorite service of the entire year. There’s something so special about all sitting in the same pew {with grandparents too} and worshiping.
*Christmas Eve Dinner-years ago when we began staying in Texas for Christmas we began the tradition of the Christmas Eve service followed up by a fancy dinner out. Gary and Marla always join us for this and it’s a sweet way to celebrate the season. Once again, my kids all love this!
*Football game-when Tab was officiating in college we tended to all load up to head to the bowl game with him. The NFL will be a little different but we’ve vowed to join him for a game if there’s anything happening near Christmas {while kids are out of school}. This is a tradition that’ll ebb and flow with the calendar, but this year it all lines up for us to travel.
*Remembering the reason-Most importantly our favorite tradition is remembering why we celebrate. I love the lights, the gifts we give, and all the extra fun we cram into the month of December, but I’m mostly thankful for a Savior who came to this earth in the form of a baby. For you and for me. The most greatest gift. All year long but especially in December we have so many easy ways for our family to talk about this greatest gift. Reading through the birth of Jesus with our advent book is always special.
I can’t believe that wraps up an entire year of Let’s Look for 2021! Shay and I are working on our line-up for 2022 so please be on the lookout. We’d love for you to join us next year!
Thank you for reading today, friends!
