How Erika Does…My Week

Happy Wednesday!

Wednesdays are my least favorite day of the week.   Wanna know why?  I go to this cardio-style workout class at the gym and it’s hard.  During the entire hour, I do my best to think of excuses for me to leave early.  But let me tell you the second that class is over, the rest of my day feels amazing.  I guess I should say Wednesday mornings are my least favorite morning.  🙂

I get asked a ton about how I structure my week, schedule things, our routines, and such.  I’m going to share what I do, but let me tell you…nothing is going to be earth shattering.  But this is how I prioritize my Monday-Friday.

*When it comes to my week and how I plan my days I start out with carpool.  I take and pick up the big kids and carpool to preschool certain times during the week.  These are times I cannot schedule anything.  I have places to be and they’re my number one priority.

*I try my very best to be at home for at least a solid two to three hours every day in the early afternoon for Britt to nap.  Very rarely does something come up where we miss her nap.  I should add she doesn’t get cranky if she misses it, but I just know she’d prefer it.  This is also when I sit down at my desk and hardcore work-like no interruptions.  When she naps, I work the entire time on travel or this blog.  So again this little nap/work time is important when I plan.

*I make sure sometime in the week I go to the grocery store or schedule grocery pick up {WAHOO!!}.  Typically Sunday afternoons, I plan our meals for the week and order groceries.  If I order them online, then this only takes a few minutes of my weekly time.  Mamas, grocery pick-up is our BFF.

*My goal is the gym twice a week {I know. I know. That goal should be higher but I keep telling myself there will be a day I’ll have five free mornings with all kids in school to head to the gym so for now, I’m gonna let that go.}  Not gonna lie, this is something that is the first to go if my week is full.  For example, if Britt has an appointment in Dallas, there’s a class party, someone has a doctor’s appointment and I’m not gonna have enough time to get all my word done, then I’ll grab some at-home workouts and work anytime I can fit it in.

*Depending on the week, I might have a ton of travel work to do or a lighter week.  That can make a huge difference in how my week looks.  My Google Calendar keeps all those appointments for me and depending on that…I have more/less play time.

*I try my best to make sure I have one day a week for errands, a mall run, lunch out with friends, or just a fun day.  The other four days I devote more time to work.  This is a day I’m caught up and can afford to have fun.

*I wasn’t as good at this in the fall semester but this semester I’m making a fun activity with my littles a priority.  It could be a picnic in the park or a trip to the zoo.  My days with Bowen are numbered (WAAAAHHH!!) so I want to do what I can to make these days at home matter.

*As you guys know, I get up early and get some work done in the morning as well.  I fit in house work when I can and at the moment I’m working on decluttering the place.  It’s a disaster right now.  WHY does it always look WAY worse before it’s better?!

How do I keep track of what is going on?
*My planner-appointments, practices, meals for the week
*My Google calendar-this has all my travel dates
*My friends-keep me in place too.  🙂

Of all weeks for me to be sharing this…earlier this week I FORGOT to take a family in our neighborhood a meal.  Like I didn’t even think about it until the next day-kind of forgot.  I felt awful!  I didn’t write it down in my planner, it was out of the ordinary Monday for me, so I completely forgot.  Don’t want you to think I have all the organizational skills.  #idont  It turns out the coordinator had texted us all telling us to wait on the meals.  I’d just missed the text THANKFULLY!

What about you?  If you have a tip or trick for planning your week, please share!

And this week I’ve been sharing all the words!!  I promise to have lots of pictures tomorrow!

XO

My favorite part about you is that you not only have your week memorized but mine too. I love when I say "I don't know what I'm doing on Thursday" and you're all "You have a dentist appointment". Hahaha! I don't know how you do it, but you always manage to have my week down too!

I love to know how other mommas squeeze in work time with littles. Naptime is key but some weeks I have work to do in the morning and the mom guilt sets in! I plan out the next week, make a meal plan and order groceries on Saturday usually. IT totally helps me feel like I have a handle on the week. Things always slip through the cracks I feel like with 3 littles and a hubby but I try to give myself grace. xoxo ERIN

I’ve totally been there with the forgetting a meal thing. Sadly, I’ve also showed up to someone’s house for a birthday party on the wrong day. Turns out the party was the day before and when we rang the doorbell, we woke up her sleeping toddler. Huge fail! The worst part was that this was my daughter’s new friend and I had just started to get to know the mom. Insert awkward moment when her husband answered the door and didn’t know who we were or why we were there a day late! We laugh about it now, but it was definitely one of my most embarrassing moments! My planner is now my best friend 🙂

This past weekend I de-cluttered our house. We JUST moved into it in July, but with two households coming together it needed to be done! It took me 21 hours of uninterrupted time to do so, but it was worth it! I thought I was going to lose my mind when I saw the huge mess I made, but once it was all cleaned up and put away, taken to goodwill, etc. it makes me SO happy to come home everyday! 🙂

How do you do carpool with little ones since they need car seats? Do you transfer your seats back and forth?

Great question-I have an extra car seat I leave in the third row for Madeley and then the others are in boosters. Shay doesn’t need an extra because Britt isn’t in preschool just yet. Next year!

About how many hours a week do you work on your blog? Hours you work for travel agency? Just curious as I am always looking at my schedule and how I can be more efficient!

Grocery pick-up is 🎶AH-MAZING!🎶 Life altering, to be honest!
Friends and family think I'm a goob because my calendar is color coded — each of the 4 kids, my husband, and myself all have our own colors, one for meal planning/grocery, and babysitting my nephew, special events, and farm notes each have their own colors also.

You are sweet to say that. I try to get in at least four workouts so I’ll do two at home typically. No, my diet is lacking in the clean department. I need some healthy lunch ideas too. Share if you find them. 🙂
