Entertainment with Erika-The Greatest Showman

Today, I have a super special edition of Entertainment with Erika.

We’re gonna chat all about this…

Okay, Ladies.

I promise after today to not talk about this movie.  I mentioned it in my post yesterday and could tell that lots of you were drinking, “The Greatest Showman” kool-aid as well.

And I keep getting requests for more of my thoughts-types-of-blog-posts and right at the moment this movie is on my heart!  {Probably because we’re blasting the soundtrack 24/7 at our house.}

The Greatest Showman

Have you seen it?

I took my kiddos and the Shull kiddos to see it on late Saturday afternoon.  To be honest, I tried to come up with something else for us to watch because I’m not the biggest fan of musicals.  {Do you guys remember the scene in Annie when Jamie Foxx starts singing in that helicopter?  Don’t get me wrong…I loved that movie BUT it just felt a bit awkward.  I’m pretty sure I nervous laughed while I was watching.}  I also wasn’t sure if the boys would be into the movie, but when I weighed my options between the movie all my Facebook feed is talking about AND Ferdinand.  Sorry, John Cena.

Let me add before we start the movie discussion-the two big boys {Nixon and Smith} acted like they were doing me a favor by going to see this with us and as we were walking out of the movie they could not stop talking about how good it was.  We turned up the volume in the car way too loud all the way home and those boys were singing just as loud as the girls.

Let’s Discuss…
I wish we were sitting in a coffee shop sipping drinks {mine heavy on the creamer} while we were talking about this!  Please imagine that!

*I absolutely LOVED the costumes!  They were extremely detailed and I couldn’t get enough.

*I’ve never been a Hugh Jackman fan UNTIL this movie.  I thought he was amazing!

*When we came home, I was telling Tab all about it and I mentioned that Jared Leto was the supporting actor.  {Yes, I know.  I should go to more movies.  Right?}  We discussed it a bit more and it wasn’t until the next morning on the way to the church-Nixon mentioned Troy from High School Musical being in the movie.  I could not believe Jared Leto was in High School Musical!  Until I realized my mix-up.  Not Jared Leto, it was Zac Efron.  They kind of resemble each other.  Right?

*The Slaughter five {all of us but Tab} cannot get enough of the soundtrack.  The most amazing dance parties in our kitchen have been occurring on the daily thanks to this music.

*I have no doubts when I sing in the shower I sound EXACTLY like the opera singer, Jenny Lind.  {Don’t we all think that?}  Yesterday I was belting it out and afterward {joking, of course} I asked Nixon how that sounded.  He rolled his eyes so far back in his head.  Like, so far.

*I was impressed to see Jen from Dawson’s Creek!  I clearly had no clue what I was getting myself into when I bought the tickets.  But I thought Michelle Williams killed it in this movie.

*Bowen went too and while he definitely wasn’t “into” it as much as the older kids, he watched the entire thing.  And now sings every word.  😉

*Lots of great messages occur throughout the movie.  But like I said in my post yesterday, that one little side story line about the other woman could have been left out and the movie wouldn’t have missed it a bit.  And then it would have been even more family friendly.  Hollywood, please call me next time prior to a big release.

*If you’ve been thinking about seeing it, I HIGHLY recommend you go to the theater.  I tried to convince my mom yesterday to clear her schedule today so she could go watch.  It’s definitely worth it!

Those of you who’ve seen the movie…what did YOU think??!  PLEASE share your thoughts!

THIS IS ME just sharing a few thoughts, but a simple blog post will NEVER BE ENOUGH to give the movie all the credit it is due.  #seewhatididthere  #songsfromthesoundtrack

If you haven’t seen the movie yet, have we convinced you to call in sick, get a babysitter, and go see it ASAP?

Hope you have the BEST Tuesday!  XO

I'm OBSESSED with this movie. I saw it Sunday night, and I'm already going back again tonight to see it again with new people who have not seen it yet. I feel JEALOUS for those who get to experience it for the first time, fresh and in its glory.

Hugh Jackman is my new favorite. And you HAVE to go search for The Greatest Showman on You Tube and watch some of the newly released background stories…they will make you love him even more. So fun.

    What a fun movie.

We are obsessed with this movie and also listen to the soundtrack non-stop. I took 2 of my kids with me to see it (10 and 6) and they both loved it and can't stop talking about it. I hear you about the part about the other woman, but I don't think the movie would have been the same without it. That's really what made him realize he had changed and made him go back to who he was. I liked that they didn't make that part graphic and it was still kid-friendly. My daughter asked about the kiss and I just said she was trying to trick him because she felt like he lied to her. That was enough of an explanation for my 10 year old, thankfully. It really is such an amazing movie. I've always been a Hugh Jackman fan and am even more so now!

My daughter asked to in the car so in front of all the kids I said pretty much the same thing you did! I wanted him to realize just because he missed his family. And I’m so glad to hear we aren’t the only ones obsessed!! 🙂

I took my two boys (10 & 7) and they both really liked it. Although half way through my 7 year old asked why they kept singing!! haha! I loved it, I was the most excited to see it and I couldn't stop smiling throughout! I agree that the part with the other woman needed to be part of the movie but I truly appreciate that it was still simple and kid friendly. Such a good movie!!

I also knew nothing about this movie walking in, my mom wanted to see it. I LOVED it. And it's funny, i have never been a Hugh Jackman fan either. I've just never seen his appeal so much, but I think it's the Wolverine movies that made me gloss over him. I don't really like comic book movies. But I loved him in this movie!

It is a great movie and I read online the story of the other woman was very different in real life. There was a tour, however, there wasn't a kiss and how that aspect of the storyline was portrayed. Enjoy your day and your dance parties to the soundtrack!

I just downloaded the soundtrack and can't wait to enjoy. We have seen the movie twice – once as a family and once with just my daughter. I agree on the other woman storyline. Even viewing the movie with teens, I could have done without that aspect of the movie. Have a terrific Tuesday!

I LOVED it also! Being that it was a true story, I got a tad obsessed with looking up/reading about the actual story and P.T. Barnum when I got home! It looks pretty similar to what happened in the movie (even with Jenny Lind the opera singer). I thought for sure that Zac Efron's character was going to end up being his partner with the last name of Bailey in "Barnum & Bailey's Circus!" I also looked up everyone's pictures…man they did NOT look that attractive in real life though – ha!

I'm right there with you on musicals, not really a fan. Don't take me to a live one because by intermission I'm ready to go. BUT this one I LOVED!! Saw it twice in a week and my six year old daughter and I listen to the soundtrack every time we're in the car. LOVE IT!! Hugh Jackman was amazing! I don't remember a movie that so many people have seen twice in the theaters more than this one. The movie industry really needs to thank us. Ha 🙂

Okay, so, 2 weeks ago my husband and I got an impromptu date night, which doesn't happen very often. It was freezing cold out so we decided we'd go see a movie even though there wasn't anything in particular we wanted to see. I remember seeing a bit of chatter about The Greatest Showman and even though I didn't know too much about the movie I suggested we go see it because it's not something we'd pick up through Netflix on our own and it seemed like it would be a good one to actually see in the theater. We ended up lucking in to such a great movie! We both really enjoyed it (neither of us are super into musicals, I feel you on the awkward 😀 ) and I'm so glad we had the opportunity to see it in the theater! It's like the movie called to us considering we rarely get to the theater and when we do it's usually to see something specific. It is so rare to nonexistent that I just take a chance on a movie I heard a couple of people say was good without even researching it first! Definitely glad we went for it.

I haven't seen this yet, but now it sounds like I have to. But….I did see Ferdinand and it was so good. Ferdinand was my favorite story growing up and I kind of pushed it on my son by reading it to him 9 million times. We went to see it together and I was dreading it because I didn't want them to ruin the book. Know what I mean? But it was so cute! My son and I loved it.

I agree 100 percent! I adored this movie: The themes, the messages, the acting, the costumes, adorable Zac Efron, Hugh Jackman doing his thing and yes, the music! I've been jamming to it in the car non-stop. "This is the greatest show!!"

My husband told me he wanted to see it and I rolled my eyes at him thinking it was going to be a lame movie. But now, after your review and my facebook feed, I'm going to have to ask him to take me. I may actually look up movie tickets for tonight since it's $5 movie night!!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one gushing over this movie! I took my 8 and 4 year old over Christmas break and we loved it AND can't stop singing the soundtrack. I'm a cycling instructor and the music has even found it's way into my classes, ha! 😉

I thought the music, chorography, and family story line were awesome! However I was disappointed with the "other woman" part as well…that's not even historically correct! Also, I tend to be a critic of historical accuracy, and the movie wasn't always very accurate. But I don't think we would like Barnum as much if it was. All of that to say…I will be playing the soundtrack and singing along!!

So if you loved or even just liked Hugh Jackman in this movie, you HAVE to watch Les Miserables. He plays Jean Valjean and is INCREDIBLE. Singing, acting, everything. Along side of Russel Crowe (who can also sing!!) and Anne Hathaway, and Eddie Redmayne…I can't get enough. Now this is not a movie to watch with kids, but oh my. I am a HUGE fan of Hugh Jackman and I loved The Greatest Showman. 🙂

When I saw the poster for this movie I thought. "I would rather have my legs broken than watch this movie" so when a friend asked me to go I didn't want to let her down so I went and was prepared to catch up on some sleep. WELL was I WRONG!! I was hooked from beginning to end !!!

My 5 pack loved it and I bought the soundtrack literally in the aisle of the movie as I was walking out ;).

My ONLY complaint was the previews! I thought 2 were completely inappropriate for my Littles to see and would suggest skipping them if you're going with kids.

Yes, if you liked this movie than you must watch Le Mes. The main reason I went to see The Greatest Showman was because of Hugh Jackman in Le Mes. Not family friendly but so, so good!
