Let me introduce you guys to a famous Texas grocery store, HEB…

This Texas grocery store chain first originated in the town of Kerrville, Texas, about an hour north of San Antonio, back in 1905. Since then, this Texas supermarket has spread out to over three hundred locations, but it still remains ONLY in the state of Texas.
Two years ago, an HEB was built about three miles from my house. Let me tell you some of my friends were ABSOLUTELY OVER THE MOON about this! I’m not a native Texan so I didn’t fully grasp the level of excitement {I’m still not fully there but working on it} I should have had. Since then I’ve learned that HEB is REALLY great at any disaster relief. That store is one of the first to step in if any Texas city has an issue. They also have great customer service and family values, which are two things really important to me.
I do most of my grocery shopping online and have them delivered right to my house. I shop at Walmart, my local grocery store, and now HEB. I know some of you reading are HEB enthusiasts and I hope you have lots of suggestions for things I need to purchase. {I’d actually LOVE some goodies to add to my next order.}. The first time I shopped at HEB I googled, “What are the musts from HEB?”.
After a couple years of shopping, I thought I’d add my own thoughts on what you should snag from HEB. :). Like I said, if you have some suggestions, please share!

First things first, I got caught in the “fall” section of HEB online and ended up with some goodies. These Maple Creme Sandwich Cookies are absolutely delicious! I live for a vanilla sandwich cookie and these are some of the best I’ve ever had.

I added these to my online cart, groceries were delivered on Saturday, and this is the pic I took of the Pumpkin Donut Holes yesterday. They were almost completely gone {because they were delicious!}.

Oh boo…I forgot to take a picture of the FRONT of these chips. These chips aren’t just sold at HEB but I thought they were worth sharing. Have you ever tried the Kettle Cooked Chips by Siete? I accidentally got a bag in an order once and my family was impressed. Since then, I’ve bought them for our house and HEB sells a mixed variety of individual bags for lunches.

I’m always looking for new things to make lunches interesting and I think this Bare Bread will be a fun treat. Crustless bread?! I’d have LOVED this as a kid!

My VERY favorite Good Culture Cottage Cheese is always sold out, but I found it this week in these small one-serving containers. {If you live in McKinney and know what other grocery stores sell this cottage cheese, will you please share? Also, Sheaffer, I apologize for not dropping any off at your house.}

HEB is KNOWN for their HOMEMADE tortillas. They come in “butter” or regular. We like them both. They’re SO good!

Mom hack here with the HEB Bone Broth. It’s a great price, helps add protein to any random meal, and tastes great. I stock up on this every time I order and use it in place of regular broth in any recipe.

One cup contains 9 grams of protein. This week we’re having it in a pasta + a soup.
Two things I LOVE about HEB grocery delivery…
- When ordering deli lunch meat, the system will ask how you’d like your meat cut. You can choose your slice preference {just like you get to choose in store} and then you choose the amount.
- When you order fresh produce, you get to choose how ripe you’d like the fruits and vegetables {which is REALLY helpful}.
When I realized I could make those selections through HEB delivery, I remember excitedly calling friends and telling them! haha! Apparently, the ability to choose “ready to eat” avocados + ripe bananas is the way to my heart.
Okay, I’m not a Texas native, but I’m doing my part to fall in love with their grocery store. What about you?? Any Texas girls here who have some HEB faves?!
XO

What tasty food items!

Thanks for reading! XO
I love my HEB! I’m in Houston and I have one about 3 miles from my house, too!
Any of their pre-made deli meals are excellent, pre-cooked hamburger patties in the frozen section, the HEB generic brand is generally very comparable to the name brand product. Oh, they have seasonal coffee that’s rally good, too! Think holiday, Christmas time.
Not food related, but their pharmacies are top notch, too. Staff is helpful (more helpful than other pharmacies).
Gas is cheaper…I could go on and on. It’s almost a one stop shop, ha ha!
Thank you, Bonnie! Those hamburger patties would be great for kids!
The sandwich meat specification is a game changer. We LOVE the honey turkey from Walmart, but in the order we received last week it was cut wayyyyyyyy too thick for my liking. I searched and searched on the Walmart site to find a place to specify “think sliced – almost shaved” and there was no place to put it. So yeah, it was way to thick in the order we received yesterday too. 🙁
I KNOW!! I like my lunch meat almost falling apart and if the stores don’t have a place to specify then sometimes you end up with nasty thick slices. URGH! TOTAL game changer!!
HEB is awesome! I am from Houston. They were the first store open after Harvey. Let people just come in to cool off and charge our phones. Had milk! And gave everyone a whole chicken. HEB Charro and Borracho beans are amazing!! Their brisket queso in prepared meals. Their premade ground beef patties in the family pack go on sale a lot ($1) each. I wrapped each in Saran Wrap individually, put in a large ziplock bag and freeze. Pull out for an easy hamburger or a small serving of ground beef to add to a dish. Gosh, there so much more!
Ann, THANK YOU for sharing! Love hearing stories like this! Makes me want to shop there even more!
I am 100% serious when I say that your enthusiasm for the avocados at HEB is contagious.
HOW many times are avocados delivered in a grocery order that are as HARD AS A ROCK and you were getting them for dinner in four hours?! Is it just me? hahaha!
Try the El Patio tostado chips- as good as ever! Also, if your family are milk drinkers, try 1836 Farms milk- it comes in a glass container just like “in the old days”!
Oh Nanci! I’m so glad you said this! We prefer “in the old days” milk. I used to get it from another store years ago! Thanks for sharing!
