Five Little Updates

Hey There Friends!

Have you guys read that book with no pictures? That’s basically going to be my blog post today. A post with no pics. #again. That sounds a little familiar-like maybe it happened not too long ago. I simply ran out of time to even post anything yesterday so I decided you guys need a little update or two about Slaughter Life. Riveting, I know. ๐Ÿ˜‰

#1 IT’S THE LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL!! Here in North Texas, all three of my big kids get out of school on Friday afternoon. We’re all a little in shock. It seems super early to me, but it’s gonna be great! It’s about time for those laid back summer days.

#2 Britt’s last day was this past Thursday so she’s been home with me this week. My goodness-she relies on her big siblings to have fun. She’s not great at independently playing because she’s always had one of them to play with, follow around, etc. This week she’s been so bored. Just three more days and her people will be home!

#3 Slaughter renovations are going down for REAL! Over the last week our kitchen, guest bathroom, back stairs, pantry, laundry room, and guest bedroom have all been demo’ed. Talk about chaos. hahahaha! No one knows where to put anything so we keep finding things that we should keep like a book that Ebby Lee wants to read but she has no clue where to store that right now. And let me tell you a little secret, I don’t know where she should store it either.

#4 Last week we ate out, grabbed ready-made food, and ate at the Shulls {those besties of ours are always great but they’re the BEST through this renovation. if you decide to renovate, get yourself some shull besties before demo begins!}. This week I decided I’d cook two slow cooker meals, but guys last night when we were finished eating and I had a slow cooker with leftover roast juices with some carrots and celery I was concerned. I told Tab my plan was to go outside and wash it in the yard with dish soap but his plan did not involve dumping any bits of food in our yard {he might have mentioned the word, “RATS”, to me and I panicked}. Super thankful for great neighbors who were so great and happy to let me use their sink to wash out my slow cooker.

#5 I was glancing at our summer calendar earlier this morning and I almost burst into tears. The days of me loading all the kids up and heading to the pool with friends hours upon hours are quickly coming to a halt. Don’t worry, we’ll still make lots of amazing memories and spend as much time as we can poolside but my days will look a lot more like…8:00 a.m. football camp drop off, 10:00 a.m. swim team drop off, 11:30 a.m. football camp pick up, 1:00 p.m. volleyball camp drop off, 4:00 p.m. volleyball camp pick up, and on and on. Sometimes those days that were completely free on my calendar used to feel SO LONG, but my goodness how I’d love to have a week like that now. Basically, I’m just saying to any of you reading that are looking at the summer thinking HOW are we going to fill all these days to truly enjoy it. Those days will be gone before you know it. The “update” is Erika’s kids are getting older. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Okay, I’m off to work on some kitchen design stuff and I’ll see you tomorrow!

XO

I laughed out loud at you not knowing where to put Ebby Lee’s book and about the RATS. I know this reno will be so worth it when it’s done, but I’m sure you’re frustrated now. Have a wonderful last week! We have 1 more week after this one! The countdown is on! ๐Ÿ™‚

When we redid our kitchen those slow cooker bags you put in your crock-pot were my life saver! When we were done I just took the bag out and threw it in the trash–very little clean up! Good luck–it will all be worth it!

We are so excited for your house stuff! It’s going to be FABULOUS! And listen, you’re going to need to cancel some camps but that #5 is unacceptable to me ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

You might Try using the crock pot liners for slow cooker meals. Those seem to really help. Best of luck with the renovation!!

Get some disposable slow cooker liners. We use them all the time. Theyโ€™re on the grocery store aisle with the aluminum foil, storage bags, etc.

Don’t forget about the slow cooker bags, that line the crock pot and you can just pull them out and throw away when finished. Basically, you don’t have to wash your crock pot!?

True story – they aren’t my favorite, but taking a crock pot somewhere with a meal in it, makes so much easier after it’s sat there, and might be helpful with limited kitchen access!

I think-just like you-they seem a little like cooking plastic which is strange to me BUT I need them in my life for the next couple months! Thanks for that reminder!

Your opening sentence made me LOL! We are getting ready to embark on a small kitchen renovation due to water damage and I am not looking forward to doing dishes, cleaning, or cooking during that time. I just keep thinking about how nice everything will be once it’s done! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hahahaha! Oh yes, Melanie! It’ll be so worth it. We had a meeting today that was good for my soul! It was a great reminder to see the light at the end of the tunnel and slow cooker liners are what we need! I totally forgot about those!
