European Vacation 2019-Part Three

Okay, PART THREE of our fabulous Italy and Greece getaway is up TODAY!

If you haven’t heard, my hubby and I {along with Shay and her hubby} just got back from a twelve day European vacation where we stayed a couple days in Venice and then boarded a cruise ship bound for the Greek Isles.  Let me tell you-it was a GREAT time!

But it’s about to get even better.  On day four of our cruise ship we ported in Mykonos, Greece.  **SPOILER ALERT-All four of us said this was our favorite stop!**

You know the pictures of Greece I had in my head?  The random scenes and pictures I’d seen from movies?  Well, Mykonos was exactly ALL of those gorgeous pictures.  We got up early and on this day we had a resort pass to a five star resort for a day.

BEST DECISION EVER!

Let me know if you agree…
This resort was right on the water, had the most incredible views, a beautiful infinity pool, and the food was outstanding.

This was a view from the hot tub looking back up toward the resort.

This was the view from one of the restaurants on the property.

Tab and I living our best life!

I’m telling you…I could NOT get over it.

While I know there are so many things to see and do in Mykonos, this resort day was absolutely glorious!  We got to have an entire day full of relaxation and THOSE VIEWS!

Trust me…this is selfie #72.  I’m sparing you.  😉

We got on the ship in time for a little more pool time and a delicious dinner.

Day 5 was a private winery tour in Argostoli, Greece.  Our guide was from a farming family herself there on the island so she began by driving us around her family’s own vineyard.

She explained the gruesome process to us.

And then we made our way over to her family home that houses a winery in the back.

They don’t use this winery anymore {and instead sell their grapes to a local winery} but seeing the process was so cool.

She had a table set for our group.

This was on the menu…fresh bread, tomatoes, feta, olives, and olive oil.  She encouraged us to mash up some tomato, top with feta, and then drizzle olive oil on the mixture.  We dipped our bread in that concoction and OH MY GOODNESS!  I’m STILL thinking about it.  And I’ve purchased three different kinds of feta from my local grocery store.

After a gorgeous drive….

We made our way to the local winery.

My romper is here.  {I think if you’re shorter than me, this isn’t the romper for you and reviews seem to agree with me.}

Such a GORGEOUS day!

Our last day on the ship was spent in Dubrovnik, Croatia.  I was super excited about this port because there’s an area in McKinney with dining, a few shops, and businesses really close to our neighborhood that was designed after a Croatian village.  I was looking forward to seeing a little resemblance to one of my favorite McKinney spots.

And I could see it!

Dubrovnik was so cute…I mean-check out this alley!

We walked around the town square and had a delicious breakfast.

Isn’t this a cute spot?

At this point in our vacation, if I wasn’t given some form of a tomato and cheese with my meal, I was upset.

Then we made our way over to a local market.

Game of Thrones fans…do you recognize this area?

These two were GIDDY about standing on these steps.

And I was giddy about finding another pretty door.  🙂

Croatia, you are CUTE!

And one last shot of these two in King’s Landing.  #maybe  #imonlyonseasontwo

We had a blast traveling with Shay and Andrew.

We made our way into a candy shop and I couldn’t get over the size of those gummies.  Can you spot those gummy bananas back there?

I know this picture is chaotic with the tour group, but can you SEE that gorgeous sky?

We made our way into a cute little cafe for a coffee and to people watch a bit.

You know I love McKinney, but I can never find a table with this kind of view.  😉

A successful morning in Croatia!

We had to be back on the ship by early afternoon so we had plenty of time to lounge pool side and enjoy our last afternoon on the ship.

And it’s safe to say-we did just that!  Shay and I pictured here with our favorite cruise staffer.

The next morning we got off the ship and headed to ROME!  I’ll tell you all about it later this week!

Remember if you’d like to plan a trip similar to this {or Walt Disney World, another cruise, or another type of vacation}, please e-mail us at mixandmatchtravelagency@yahoo.com.  We’d LOVE to talk to you about helping you with your vacation!

Have a GREAT Monday!

What a fun trip! In your last post on the trip, I'd love it if you could address the crowds and how they affected your trip. Venice and Dubrovnik (thanks to GOT) are both overrun with tourists these days and Santorini, especially, in Greece. Plus, the downside to cruising is disembarking at each port with thousands of other cruisers from multiple ships. I could see the massive crowds in some of your pictures but you guys never mention it. As a first timer, what did you think of the crowds? I know when we were in Scandinavia last summer, the large Chinese tours were everywhere and we were constantly ducking and bobbing around them!

Hi! Where is the gray and fluorescent tank top in the first photo of you from?

The only place that felt crowded to me that we visited was Rome. {Coming in a future post.} When we disembarked at ports, it was never the same time as another ship so there weren't crowds at the cruise ports like you might imagine. That picture in Croatia, you can see a tour group but there weren't SO many that it bothered me or I even noticed. I noticed crowds in Rome but it's Rome…of course, there are lots of people visiting.

Llowe…it's a cover-up and there's a funny story about it. It's my friend, Jeni's, from Style Duplicated. She had an appointment after the pool one day and I was the only one not wearing cover-up/see through clothes so I switched her outfits. Everyone commented on how cute that cover-up was so Jeni was sweet and strongly encouraged me to take it on the trip. I looked EVERYWHERE and cannot find it in stock. It's a year or two old and it's GONE!

Trader Joe’s has the BEST feta I’ve ever tried. The one in the brine is exactly like feta in Greece because it’s made in Greece. Try shredding your tomato on a box grater for an easier spread, we just got back from Crete and it was EPIC,

Looks like it definitely was a great trip.
    2 questions:
How did you find your private your guides?

As a rule do you recommend private vs/cruise provided tours?
