On Friday night around 6:30, all seven of our seventh grade girls showed up (plus an amazing leader) for Disciple Now weekend!!
The girls had sessions scheduled throughout the weekend. During sessions, it was “quiet time” in my bedroom. My bed looked like this during every quiet time. 🙂 We had a movie marathon and lots of kindle time.
We even got ready for CHRISTMAS by watching Elf. 🙂
These girls were seriously awesome! We played games on Friday night and they were so sweet to include my kiddos. They were playing “Fish Bowl”. They all had to write a person, a place, and a thing on a slip of paper. Then you put all of them in the bowl and used them in the game. Bowen’s sweet partner let him choose…he picked “Bowen Slaughter”, “Kansas City”, and “trains”. hahaha!
We just thought we were wrapping up the night with the game. Around 12:00 I was watching t.v. to make sure all the girls were asleep before I crashed when our leader ran in my room saying something about water!!! Oh my goodness! The boys’ upstairs toilet had overflowed. I’m not talking a little overflow either. I’m talking water was gushing out of the air vents and ceiling fan in the guest bedroom UNDERNEATH the bathroom. The girls were amazing!! We all sprung into action. They grabbed coolers and buckets from the garage to catch water downstairs while Olivia (our sweet leader) and I did our best to soak up all the water with every single towel the Slaughter family owns!
I crawled in bed around 12:30 and caught these three….exhausted after our first D-Now night. hahaha!
The next day we were up bright and early for breakfast, more sessions, and a FOOD FIGHT! Every year our Disciple Now has a Food Fight. It’s a quick one hour game where each group tries to get as many canned goods as you can. Each group is assigned a parking space in the church parking lot. You have to be creative with your canned goods in order to get the most points.
There are several challenges during the weekend. The group with the most points wins the Pheadoux Bowl, which is a HUGE bowl of ice cream with every kind of topping imaginable. And it’s the title. 🙂
Our group worked hard to make a 3-D chair…use your imagination, ladies.
We got back to our house in time to spot, Mrs. Andrea, our awesome cooking coordinator who provided us an amazing breakfast and the MOST delicious lunch!! You know you have a gem of a friend when she comes by to drop off lunch, sees dishes in your sink, and WASHES them!! Seriously….she’s the best!
This is a little plug for the plumbing company here in McKinney who came to our rescue bright and early on a Saturday morning. If you’re local and need a plumber, CALL them!
The plumber came and then the water damage company arrived….ugh! Yes, it was THAT bad!
Ebby Lee and Nixon found a friend, Molly, while we were waiting for the next game’s instructions.
They had to draw a cute little picture and come up with a slogan for the weekend in their space. Our group is funny and chose, “D-Now is With the Flow”…thanks to the girls, I learned this weekend that’s another way of saying, “D-Now is On Point!”. Apparently, I’m not down with all the 7th grade lingo these days. haha! Did you guys know that phrase? And…they drew a toilet!!! Because it was on everyone’s minds. hahaha!
2015 D-Now
If you spot us, let me know…because I can’t tell where we are. 🙂
We had a scavenger hunt where we drove all over McKinney to measure the most random of things with a banana.
The girls had a pizza dinner and then a big session at church. We dropped them off and then went to hang out with M. *At this point, our house was covered with big industrial fans and humidifiers. EEK!
We waited to pick our girls up. It was 8:15 p.m. but I would have bet anything it was closer to 11:00.
My kiddos had the best time!
When it’s D-Now weekend and you have a bunch of middle school girls at your house, you get to eat chips, queso, and chocolate cake at 10:30 p.m. 🙂
And then you smile like this. hahahaha!!
It seriously was a fabulous weekend!! I’m EXHAUSTED and may have taken a two-hour nap yesterday. Today I’m hoping all the carpet and carpet pads will be dry, so my house can completely be put back together. If your church has something similar, I’d highly suggest you and your family participating!! Our church looks for drivers (to help with the activities), cooking coordinators, and host homes so you can try whatever works for you. Despite the flood in our home, we had a GREAT time!
We got to enjoy an evening out last night with these two…some of our oldest McKinney friends! Great food with great friends is always a good time!
Hope you enjoyed your weekend!!
You're amazing for taking all those 7th graders in while your kiddos are still so little! Exhausting! Phew!
And that's horrible about the water flooding – it happened to us once too. Yuk!
Last but not least, your friend Andrea is a true friend and she's amazing with all she accomplishes too!
Thanks for sharing!
The picture of your kids passed out in bed is MY FAVORITE! And girl, you did an amazing job recovering from the flood!
You earned jewels in your heavenly crown this weekend! Well done friend!!!!!
What a great way to serve and minister!
Love this so much and love that you all were part of it. Also..I LOVE Fishbowl! Our fam will be playing a big game of it on Thanksgiving. YAYYYY! Happy Monday, mama. xx
What a fun weekend!! Your kids will remember that forever, and will be a great example for them some day when they are teens!!
Looks like an eventful weekend! You're a trooper girl!
Girl we had not one but two floods this past year, so I feel your pain! Who would think some water could cause so much damage! The upside was after it was all said and done and we did get our whole living and family room repainted, a new kitchen floor and new hardwood flooring put in;). Hope it all gets back to right for you soon! Glad you didn't let it ruin your weekend though!!!
Love that you kept that pretty smile through all of that! You are a rockstar for hosting.
We have always hosted D-Now BOYS. I just don't think I'm up to having girls! We always had a great time and those are memories I'll cherish. I still keep in touch with some of those boys who spent the night with us 10 years ago.
Those girls will always remember that weekend. Bless you for hosting!
Our church has D-Now weekend in January… we've been a host home the past couple years… a cooking coordinator is a genius idea! I think I'll be passing that one along! 🙂
You are a rockstar!!!!
You're amazing! We had a flood when my baby was 10 days old, same thing de-humidifiers, fans all that! So not fun! Hope it's all back together soon!
