Colorado for Baseball

We’re BACK from Colorado and quickly jumped right into ALL THE THINGS this week. Our kids have three weeks until school starts. I keep reminding myself and them that’s almost a month but it just doesn’t sound like much.

Nixon’s baseball team he’s been on for many years decided this season to travel to Vail, Colorado, for a World Series Tournament. We left last Monday to get all settled in before the tournament started on Wednesday.

We rented a gorgeous home up in the mountains with our family friends also on the team. Last year in Florida we’d struggled a bit with our first rental and then had to pivot and rent a house once we arrived. So we made sure we did our research before booking this house. And WE LOVED IT! We arrived and immediately hiked over to see the gorgeous views.

STUNNING VIEWS from the house! This little area right here was the spot for paragliding in the morning. I would absolutely never do that. #EVER. But it was fun to watch!

And this view is pretty cute too! 😉

Gorgeous views with the most perfect weather!

I found this pic Bowen took and it just made me laugh! ha!

How often do you get to play baseball with those views in the background? It almost looks like I photoshopped this pic, promise I didn’t.

We made sure to get a house with lots of activities. We’ve learned these World Series tournaments contain lots of baseball but also lots of down time. Our house had pickle ball, shuffle board, foosball table, and a pool table.

And it kept all the people busy anytime we had time at the house. We learned with a bit more practice Nixon could easily become a pool shark.

Coffee with views and girlfriend chats happened to be my favorite morning ritual.

Do you spot Nixon on first?

Remember when I said Nixon’s entire team died their hair? They’re all still holding strong with the blonde {and I think they all have big plans now to tweak that since we’re home-ha}. Nixon and Drew have been playing together {minus one season} since they were eight so we’ve been family friends for years.

And Britt’s been a fan of Drew’s dad ever since!

Baseball is fun and we absolutely love getting to watch Nixon play but this is what’s most important.

#34 up to bat!

There were so many cute, charming little spots we stopped for meals. The Gashouse was one of them!

And then any down time we had I snuck in work with those views as well!

One evening the adults-only went into Vail for dinner. We kicked it off with nachos because WHY NOT?!

Love these two so much!

And this guy too!

I snagged a pic of our house from the VRBO site! It was an amazing spot for our week long stay with ten of us! Six bedrooms, six bathrooms, two big living room spaces…it was perfect!

Nixon playing second base.

My sweet parents made the drive to Colorado to watch baseball. They hung with some other grandparents, joined us for some meals, and even went white water rafting. Thankful they go to come out to see him play.

The tournament didn’t exactly end like we’d hoped but that’s baseball! Am I right? We decided we were in Colorado and we were gonna enjoy it! So that’s just what we did…

The entire team went to Glenwood Springs Adventure Park after losing. We were all a bit down in the dumps and this spot happened to be just what we needed! It was probably my kids favorite thing! The small theme park was at the very top of the mountain. We had to ride a gondola up to even get there and there were about 7-10 rides plus a few other extras as well.

Ebby Lee and these other sisters had fun!

Our ride to the top!

I was the lucky one who got to ride all the rides with Britt-ha! This alpine coaster was my favorite ride of the day!

My mom and Britt went down into the cave so I missed that part but they both said it was good!

Can you spot the cutie on the left?

This little park at the top of the mountain was kind of a hidden gem!

A few of the dads got in on the fun. This one particular ride was pretty intense! So I opted out BUT Tab was ALL IN!

Tab talked Bowen and one of his friends into riding. Not pictured: Another dad who had an arm band but hid from Tab while they got in line so Tab wouldn’t peer pressure him into riding this particular roller coaster. I could NOT stop laughing.

A great group of boys!

The parents took turns posting up in this shaded area so there was always a “home base”. I was expecting us to be there a couple hours and we were there for SIX! I’m telling you-a little hidden gem at the top of the mountain!

Another mom snapped a pic of #34 on the coaster!

And our last full day we had a surprise visitor to our trash cans. Shanna {the family friend staying with us} and I FLIPPED OUT and did our best to scare him away. If someone would have had a video of us, it would have been hilarious!

Our last full day {also known as the day the bear arrived} we went to Vail for a 2.5 mile hike, walked around town, and followed it up with dinner. The perfect way {and weather} to end our trip. Also, Nixon chose to make that face in the pic to be funny so I’m pretending like I didn’t even notice. :). #momwins

We had a great time in Colorado and am so thankful for all the fun and memories that were made!

XO

This post gives me all. the. feels. Even with baseball going the way it did, it will forever be one of my favorite weeks. 2 things: the bear incident (and bat!) will never not be funny. And my coffee will NEVER be as good as in the mountains chatting with you every morning. LOVE you guys so much!!

I’m glad you said bear bc I was totally thinking raccoon. That explains y’all’s response a little better. 🤣

Hahahaha! I think we’d have been brave enough to shoo a raccoon a way but with the bear we were pretty much like take what you want we’ll clean up after you!

How did they all do playing at that altitude?? I live in Colorado so going from where I am to Vail isn’t a big deal but I can’t imagine it’s easy to go from Texas to Vail!

Glenwood Springs Adventure Park is such a fun place. When we went, there was no gondola running up so we had to take a bus. Worst ride ever! At least the rides at the top made up for it.

Also, always bungee cord your trash cans!
