Book Review-February 2025

Happy Monday, Friends! We had a busy weekend but I imagined to be in my pajamas and on the couch by 7:30 p.m. on Saturday which just might have been the biggest win for me of the entire three days. 🙂 I hope you found some time to relax and recoup as well.

If you missed my January Book Review, you should go back and check it out. I read/listened to TEN books last month. I have absolutely no idea how that happened because this month I barely got finished with three. Maybe this is proof that January does have WAY more days then February?!

Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Old-I must tell you I went into this book not realizing that she’d already written a memoir, but when she started telling the story {I listened on Audible and it’s Brooke reading.} I quickly realized I was wrong. Brooke tells about the struggles in Hollywood once you start getting older, she shares some life lessons on aging, she details some stories from motherhood, and gives us the good, bad, and the ugly breakdown.

This wasn’t my favorite listen by far. I thought she sounded a little whiney, but then again if I was Brooke Shields and had been in the spotlight due to my looks for years and years I probably would be really whiney about getting old too. As women I think we all struggle with wanting to look/feel our best all while aging as gracefully as possible. I identify with the concept but didn’t love most of the delivery. I enjoyed the parts about motherhood…like when she shared dropping her daughter off for college. It’s fun to hear stories about celebs being just like us, right? This book was just “okay” to me.

The Three Lives of Cate Kay-I chose this one because Amazon was touting it as the perfect mix of the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo meets First Lie Wins. In Kate Fagan’s novel, Cate Kay is a famous author who’s always kept her identity a secret. She finally decides she’s ready to share who she is after she’s spent years and years hiding from an accident that shaped her future.

Again, the concept was there and there were parts of the book I didn’t want to put down but overall it was just “okay” as well. I don’t really have much to add here except it took me approximately 21 days to finish which is saying something.

Here Be Dragons-I shared this book in my Friday Favorites last week because not only did Melanie Shankle outdo herself on this one BUT the other two books I read this month were just “okay” so it shined even brighter! In Melanie’s new book, she shares true stories about the struggles she had with her own mother, how she broke the generational cycles of trauma to build an incredible mother/daughter bond, and she even covers the topic of mean girls. {Anyone with a daughter or a female in their life can relate to that topic, right?}

I laughed and cried {numerous times} throughout this book. It’s a real life story of God’s redemption in a family and my goodness, does she tell the story in the cutest of ways. This is a must-read for everyone but especially moms! You guys will LOVE it!

That’s all I have today, friends! I did start and stop one book this month and am already reading another but haven’t finished yet. Hopefully I have more books to review for you in March!

Hope you guys have a great start to your week!

XO

    Melanie’s book was AMAZING! She should have ghostwritten Brooke’s. 😉
