Book Review-April-October 2025

WHOA!!!

Can we say I took a tiny, little break on reading?! It happens EVERY year! Spring ramps up and books take a back seat. I did read a bit here and there and decided it was finally time to share my thoughts on some books….

The Chicken Sisters-This book turned Hallmark original series was outside of the norm from what I’d typically read but it was a feel-good read that was adorable. Two sisters end up working at two different famous chicken restaurants in a small town. One sister signs them up for a food reality show to see which spot truly has THE BEST friend chicken. Again, it was outside of my norm but I’m glad I read it. Plus I’d recommend it to you. Has anyone seen the show?

Atmosphere-Taylor Jenkins Reid captured my heart when she wrote Daisy Jones & The Six which is still one of my very favorite books! I had extremely high hopes for this one. It was a good read but not near as good {in my opinion}. I’d first suggest you read Daisy Jones & The Six! In Atmosphere, we get to see the challenges a woman astronaut faces in the 1980’s.

The Last One at the Wedding-If you’re a thriller fan, have you read this one? This book had me hooked from the very early pages of the story! Frank gets a call from his estranged daughter wanting to mend fences and inviting him to her wedding. The wedding is taking place in a secluded private estate and event after event leaves Frank feeling like something isn’t adding up. I was hooked!!

Daisy Haites-Book two in the Magnolia Parks series. This was another Sex and the City similar storyline. The author has a way of using multiple storylines in the most effortless way. It’s very Rated “R” for the language. I enjoyed this because it’s very much not one you have to think about but more unexpected than a regular chick-lit novel.

The France Dance-I shared this as a Friday Favorite months ago, but The France Dance was written by one of my friends in real life, Lauren! I’m in absolutely AMAZEMENT! It’s such a sweet story about a ballerina who decides to take a break from her rigorous schedule and ends up finding so much more. It’s a chick-lit book that had me googling destinations in France that are now on my Bucket List! I think you’ll love it!

Every Summer After-Another chick-lit story that was a great summer read! If you haven’t read Carley’s debut novel, add this one to your list. You’ll probably enjoy it more in the spring/summer seasons but trust me, it’s a cute one.

The Push-WHOA!!! This is a thriller that had me turning pages as quickly as possible to get to the end of the story. I have a girlfriend who typically loves books like this {as do I} but she couldn’t get into this one. I thought it was so interesting and very outside of the norm when it comes to thrillers. If you’re a fan, I’d suggest you give it a try!

Everyone is Lying to You-Another thriller, this time one about an Instagram influencer who goes missing and her husband is found brutally murdered. Another one that kept me turning the pages!

Unoffendable-I read a lot of GREAT books over the last couple months but none that will stick with me like this book. Brant Hansen does a remarkable job explaining how we, as Christians shouldn’t spend our time or energy being offended. I read about a chapter a day each morning and I’d think about what I’d read all throughout the day. Basically, I think I was highly offendable and I’m SO GLAD I read this!

Broken Country-I loved this and trust me-if I see you within the next week, I’ll probably ask if you’ve read Broken Country. If you haven’t, I’ll probably recommend it. This is just one of those good meaty books that appeal to so many people.

What have YOU been reading lately?! What should I pick up next?!

XO

I just started The Boomerang by Robert Bailey! He’s a lawyer in Huntsville, AL, and is now an author and his books are SO good! Before I started it, I read a review that said it’s like John Grisham meets Yellowstone, and I’m 1/3rd of the way in the book and I’m loving it–I was hooked from the beginning!

The same way about Atmosphere, just “eh”. I have a feeling many people will get Un-off-fend-able for Christmas. The idea of reading a chapter a day – I might try that. I have heard that I Wish I Had a Bigger kitchen is excellent.
The Academy is the book I am recommending to everyone right now.

Wow! You are the first person I’ve come across who didn’t think Atmosphere was Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best book yet. I wonder if you didn’t love it as much because you are more on the conservative side an a Christian and it featured a queer love story

I’ve ready many books with different love story lines so I don’t think that’s it. Did you like it more than Daisy Jones?!!

I just went back in and added it. HOW’D I SKIP THAT ONE?! Listen, they’re definitely rated R reads, but similar to a Sex and the City storyline. I enjoy those books!
