A Little Family Picture Inspiration

You guys!!  They FaceSwapped on a Christmas Card!  I cannot stop staring and laughing at this picture!  I couldn’t start this post without this picture because HILARIOUS!

In my post yesterday, one of the items on the Christmas Checklist was CHRISTMAS CARDS!

Every year I schedule family pictures with Narci for the fall so we can use a picture or two from our session on our cards.  I’m not sharing our pictures from this year just yet, but I will.

At this point many of us have already taken family pictures, but this post is for those of you who haven’t.  🙂  I shared some family picture thoughts a couple years ago in this post, but I’m gonna add to it a little bit.

*Your Family-I always choose COLOR for our family pictures.  I think next year, I’m going to try to go BOLD.  Our family is all super light-skinned so if we wear neutrals or anything really light, it’s not good.  I always try to choose colors we’re going to look our best in.

*Coordinate-Everyone has their own preferences, but I don’t shy away from patterns in pictures.  I love coordinating patterns, stripes, plaids with some solids thrown in for good measure.

*Layer-There’s a reason the mannequins in stores are wearing layers, ladies.  Trust me!  It can be a little tricky in Texas to pull off this look without sweating mid-session, but if you can, go for it!  In the picture above, our layer game was strong.  Right?  My hair volume game not so strong, but our layers were on point.  ha!

*Clothing Selection-I always start with Ebby Lee’s outfit.  Girl outfits tend to bring a little more pattern to a picture.  I choose colors based on her outfit.  Then I choose everyone else’s clothes.

*Have Fun-You’ll have these memories on a wall or in a book for a long time so make sure you’re having fun!  Sometimes my kiddos are on their “A” game and sometimes they’re a little “off”.  Those “off” pictures are usually my favorites because their personalities are getting to be seen!

Proof-he really wanted the stick in the picture.  Now, I can see the stick needed to be photographed because could this picture be any cuter?!

I hope you got a little inspiration for your next family picture.  Happy Thursday, Friends!  XO

I love that you don't shy away from patterns. I always get so hung up on coordinating everyone's outfits that I keep it too simple. I'm gonna try to remember your advice for next time!
