Happy Wednesday, Everyone!
This is the day every month Shay and I share a bit about how we WORK IT. We’re not claiming to be experts by any means, but we share what we do. We invite you to share what you do and hopefully we can learn a little something from each other. We’re here the second Wednesday of every month and we’d love for you to join us!
In case you’ve missed any posts, so far we’ve covered these topics…
Today it’s all about how we make our home cozy. For me it’s about finding a way to make my family and special guests welcome and comfortable when they’re here. Again, I’m not an expert but these are the things I do around here to make my home feel comfy, cozy. PLEASE SHARE what you do! I could use all the tips! There’s no possible way to make it too cozy. Right? 🙂
These are a few things I’ve picked up over the years…
*Lamp lighting is my jam. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is go through the house and turn on all the lamps. It took Tab a while to get used to all the lamps on, but it really makes the house cozy. When the kiddos wake up, they come downstairs to house full of soft light.
More proof that I love a lamp. 🙂
*Candles burning always scream COZY to me. Do they to you? If I’m having guests over I have a tendency to go over the top and have a candle burning in each room. #allthescents But if it’s just my family here for the night, then I have one or two going in the room where we’re spending our time.
Just last week I shared my favorite fall scent-Bath and Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin. It has such a great fragrance and is priced so well!
A few other favorites…
*Circle E Candles-Bird of Paradise and Hawaiian Pineapple are my faves (more spring/summer though)
*Aromatique-This company was started in Arkansas and when I smell certain Aromatqiue candles it takes me back to college. Indian Mall in Jonesboro had a Dillard’s on one end. When you got close you could smell those candles. #collegedays #anyoneelseremember? I have a Pumpkin Spice burning in my house right now but other favorite scents are Cinnamon Cider and The Smell of Christmas. You can find these candles at Dillard’s.
*Nouvelle-I just stumbled upon this one this weekend in a store downtown. The fragrance, Fall Festival smells SO good. Ebby Lee and I had a moment in the store because of the smell.
*Comfy pillows and throws help make a home feel cozy. When we’re watching a movie or a game, I want to be able to curl up with a blanket and be comfortable. I want my family and guests to do the same thing.
I’m a fan of some comfy throws and pillows. #moreproof
*Seating is comfy too. I try to add comfortable furniture to our house that guests and family enjoy sitting on.
*Give me ALL the twinkling lights at Christmas. My house never looks better than when it’s decorated all cozy for Christmas time. The fire and lights have a way of making that happen.
I think the attitude of the host makes such a difference in a home. I want friends to come over to a laid-back home where they can totally and completely be themselves. Sometimes I can get carried away by trying to make everything perfect. Honestly, people don’t care about that. They just want to have a good time and feel welcome. That’s how I try to make our house cozy.
Again, PLEASE share any tips with me! I’d love to hear them. I’m fairly certain we can’t over due it on the cozy, so send any ideas my way.
Next month we’re sharing about how we plan for the holidays. We’d love for you to join us!
I love your idea of turning on soft lights all around the house when you wake up–totally going to try. I can't stand waking up and having to turn on bright lights-ha!
Your house is ALWAYS so cozy!! When I was over on Tuesday night, it was the COZIEST!!!! I could move in 🙂 .
The Smell of Christmas is one of my very favorite candles for the season! I just love it!
Great tips, girl!! Your home was SO cozy the other night!!
Yes!!!!! Dillard's in Indian Mall had Aromatique and an amazing shoe section!
Thanks for the details on your candles! I'm always curious where people find great candles!

I agree with all of your tips! Your house is always so cozy!
Great tips! Love those fur stools!
I love lamps too…and I ADORE the HUE app on my phone, so I can turn them all on from my phone before I even get out of bed-look into it, I promise you won't regret it! (that being said, there may be a special light bulb or something that goes with it, but that is my husbands job, so Im clueless there. All I know is that I can turn my lamps off and on from my bed!
Such a beautiful cozy space to call home. I love all things cozy for sure and our weather in IA is making me cozy crazy!
Have you ever tried Park Hill Sweet Tea candles? they are a little pricy, but worth it!! I have seen them on Amazon, but also found them boutique/gift shops. You won't want another candle after the Sweet Tea and Cotton Field scents.
I like your ideas with the lights and pillows/throws but I'm one of those unlucky people that are sensitive to certain fragrances and scents. Candles and liquid plug-ins are especially bad. I found one brand of candles in downtown McKinney that I'm okay with.
