Tuesday Talk-Peloton

It’s TUESDAY, which means Fancy Ashley and I are here chit-chatting with you for Tuesday Talk!

Once again-I’m so glad to be back with you!

Okay, friends!  I need your HELP today!
At our Manda Strong Gala a few weeks ago, we won a Peloton bike in the live auction and while Tab has been using one at our local gym for years and loving it, I’m a total rookie!  Our bike arrived last Wednesday {who could have even imagined how great the timing would be with that?  when they delivered everything on Wednesday they told me they’ve added an extra day to their delivery schedule because they had so many orders since gyms had closed} and since then I’ve been doing “beginner” rides because I’m definitely a beginner.  🙂

We had a leather chaise lounge in this little area in our bedroom but decided to put the bike here.  We didn’t want to take up most of our guest bedroom {which is already pretty small anyway}.  The Peloton came with headphones so worst case scenario would be if one of us was getting in an early morning ride they use headphones.  Not a big deal!

I need to know everything…do you have a favorite instructor?

Any certain type of class I should take?

Do you have a favorite class?

Is my hiney gonna get used to this or should I invest in some sort of cushion for my backside?  Because I’m SORE!

Seriously, I need your help!

Is there a point where the beginner classes will be easy and I should bump up or are they never gonna be easy?  How long before I move on?

I’ve used the Peloton app for yoga periodically when I’m trying to change up my workouts and that’s the extent of my knowledge with anything Peloton-related.

I will add that so far, I’m loving it!  I wasn’t sure what all the hype was about when it comes to this Peloton bike, but getting to be a part of a group cycling class from home is definitely one way to stay motivated during the entire workout.  Someone “high-fived” me during a workout yesterday and I got WAY too excited about it!  Basically, I’m not sure I’ll even be pedaling during my ride today-I might just be high-five-ing others.  🙂

I’d love to hear any feedback/advice you have!
Thank you so much for your help in advance!
XO

My favorite is Matt. He’s not as hype-y, he’s all about just getting in there and doing the work, but he’s very approachable and likeable. I *highly* recommend you try the Power Zone classes (there’s a 4 week intro to power zones unit you can take) because rather than you working out at the same level as everyone and killing yourself, they show you how to figure out your “zones” for your ability level, then when they say go to “zone 3” you’re all working out at whatever speed/resistance is a 3 for you. It’s all so personalized and feels manageable and pushes you at the same time. I love it!!!

My favorite yoga is Kristin. Enjoy!

I LOVE my Peloton! My favorite instructors are Robin, Leanne and Hannah Marie. Cody is also a lot of fun, too. I did the beginner workouts for the first week (maybe two?), then moved to regular classes the following. I don't think there is a right or wrong way with that!

I love my bike and it takes about 5 rides to not feel the soreness in the "bum", I have taken from several of the instructors, but Alex Toussaint is my favorite by far. I love taking the HiiT ones, mentally it helps me knowing I am going hard for like 1 minute and then getting like a down hill rest for 45 seconds. I also love doing the 80's ones too.

You need a fan or two blowing on you! 😀. I love our peloton and I like most of the instructors. Sometimes I pick the rides based on the music and sometimes I pick based on the instructor. I like the HIIT rides and the HIIT and Hills rides the best. I don’t think it really gets easier, but I am so much stronger now.

Ally Love…she is so motivational!!! Try her Sundays with Love. Hanna Marie is great too, especially for beginners. She is always reminding you about form and her classes are not over the top. As far as your bum is concerned, make sure you stay on the widest part of the seat. I would suggest not even wear padded shorts. When we first got our bike we did and I feel like they made our bums hurt worse. The key is your bums location on the seat. We love our peloton…especially these days!!!! Have fun!!!

Ok, I've had the Peloton in my cart for two days–imagine my surprise when I pull up your blog this morning and saw the title! Should I take this as a sign to hit the purchase button? You know, a little Erika Told Me To? 🙂

I still like the plan of me paying a weekly fee to come over and hop on the bike. 🙂 I promise I'll use the headphones if it's really early, just leave a key under the mat.

Arms and interval classes are my favorite! I love how I can get a leg workout in from the bike but also get an arm workout in at the same time!

Welcome to the Peloton fam! I would recommend taking at least one class from each instructor to find your favorites. The beginner classes will eventually start to feel easier! There are also advanced beginner classes, and the 20 minute theme classes (like 80s, 90s, etc.) are usually not too difficult so are also good to do when you are just starting. Definitely do the pre and post ride stretches. There are also a lot of Facebook groups of peloton riders based on interests (like peloton moms, etc) and favorite instructors so it’s a great way to make it more social experience which is really great right now especially.

Hi Erika! I am a daily reader of yours but have never commented before…but I love my peloton too much not to! Ally Love and Emma Lovewell are my favs! I invested in shorts, but I rarely use them anymore because your tush gets used to it 😉 I feel like the shorter rides are the hardest, they pack in all the hard parts in less time, and the longer rides give you more "recover" time. My 7 year old even rides the bike and loves it!!

Try all the instructors. I like different classes depending on my time, mood, music I want, how I feel physically and how hard I want to be pushed.

Your bottom will get use to it.

    Enjoy!

My 10 and 8 year old boys do scenic rides on it too when they can’t get outside. One of my favorites is the meditation section, especially the guided sleep. I use it when I can’t get my mind to settle down and relax.😴

We love our bike and I have definately seen a spike in my usage while stuck at home. Each instructor has a different vibe which you will get used to pretty quick. Robyn is hard core but fun, Cody is hysterical but can be crass, Emma is super encouraging, Ally Love does Sundays with Love that are super uplifting but her rides are tough, Christine is a former racer so her rides involve heavy hills, Jen is awesome and muscular and she puts you thru the ringer. When you have enough endurance, try the 45 min All for One ride from 4th of July. Each instructor does one song and you get a taste of each. Pretty soon you will become addicted to one or two and stick with that one. You butt will feel better but expect it to hurt for a while. Make sure you share your user name so we can all follow you!

While yes, your bottom will get used to it, I highly recommend investing in a few pairs of "bike underwear." They're padded, they're on Amazon, they're high quality (one pair I use is 5+ years old – used at least once a week), machine-washable, and they're cheap. I have been an outdoor biker, spin class-er, and now Peleton user for years (my dad is actually an avid bicycler who introduced me to the padded shorts initially) and it is just such a nice difference to have the padding. Definitely worth the try!

Yes, while your bottom will get used to it, I highly recommend investing in a few pairs of bike underwear. On Amazon – they're good quality, they're cheap, and they WORK. I have used them for years for outdoor biking (my dad is an avid bicycler and first introduced me to them, he bikes daily and always wears) and when I started spinning and using my Peleton I also have been wearing them. Well worth it and will make it so much more enjoyable!

I am going to have to look into this. I've seen the ads but I didn't know they had a fitness app. Is it for at home work or to use in conjunction with a gym?

Can I make a bike recommendation for those that do not want to spend Peloton kind of money? I have this one and love it. It feels solid, is quiet, and works great. It even looks VERY similar to a Peloton! I use the Peloton app on my iPad and the free Echelon app on my phone to get my stats.

LOVE Emma Lovewell, Dennis, and Alex! Your booty will get used to it too! I also HIGHLY recommend getting a piece of plywood for under your bike. The carpet makes you feel very unstable when you're out of the saddle, and the plywood will even that out. I just measured our mat and Home Depot cut a piece that fit under it perfectly. It made a huge difference!

I’ve had our peloton for over 2 years now, and I’m obsessed! Cody, ally, robin, Sam yo, Emma, Jen, Alex…I love them all. Pop type rides are my favorite! I also do arms, abs, total body, strength training, and use meditation and yoga before bed. It really depends on how much time i have during the day, but your booty won’t hurt after the first couple rides and you will love it!

I’m SO excited to see this blog topic today!!i have been dreaming about all things Peloton! I have been saving for one and am almost able to get it! And I just saw they have the app for 90 days free.

My question is how big is it? I don’t have a lot of room but am trying to figure out spacing.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Oh my gosh! I am so excited for you!! Just like Shay said, I love the Intervals and Arms classes… I think Emma does those classes the best and I stay away from Olivia! I am sure she's nice, but I just can't handle her!
Cody- it took me some time to warm up to him, but he makes me laugh soo much! I just enjoy his classes so much!

Yes, you will adjust to the seat… no, you don't need to buy anything! I didn't spin before I got my Peloton and I adjusted quickly.

I usually use the headphones to focus better. I also find it more fun to meet a friend on a class at the same time. Then we can chat about the music or the class afterwards… sometimes during! 🙂

I would love to follow you or at least hear about the rides you take… so keep us posted! I am still pretty pathetic (output wise), but I am still consistent with it after two years, so that's a win in my book! 🙂

As someone who was more budget conscious, I bought this bike:

I've been using it for two weeks straight and it's amazing! I am using it in conjunction with the peloton app and it works perfectly! Highly suggest for anyone who doesn't want to spend $3K on a bike.

Cody is my favorite – he's hilarious! the backstreet boys ride is the best with him!

Feel free to follow me – I'm always high fiving everyone riding with me! alishabultem
