Top Three-Baby Names

It’s back!!!  The GIRL edition of our BABY NAME GAME!!  In case you missed it, last week we all played the Baby Name Game.  I enjoyed it SO much!!  You can read it here.  You know the game where you name your unborn children….even if you’re thirteen years old or seventy-seven??  It’s just a fun game that girls of ALL ages seem to play.  And…from the responses last week my hubby is not the only one who despises that game!  hahaha!

Again…just to be clear. 🙂

I must tell you how we named our sweet girl.  Tab and I found out we were having a girl and had THE HARDEST TIME coming up with the perfect name.  My mom and my father-in-law both have “Lee” as their middle name.  I kept thinking it’d be so cute to use something with “lee” or “ley” or “ly” at the end.  I was super stuck on that ending sound.  These were some of my faves…

Brinley
Whitlee
Haisley

Tab and I had the hardest time finding a name we both loved and agreed on.  We’d talked about how we both loved the southern two-name thing, but again…finding two names to agree on wasn’t easy!  We were driving down the road and we passed an “Ebby Halliday” sign (who’s a realtor in Texas).  Tab jokingly said, “Maybe we should name her Ebby?”.  The more we said it.  The more we liked it.  We added “Lee” and loved it even more!  We went from NO name to “Ebby Lee” in probably five minutes.  We love it and think it fits her perfectly.  🙂

Top Baby Girl Names of 2014:
Sophia
Emma
Olivia

How many of you after watching Rachel on Friends name her baby, “Emma Grace”, thought you’d for sure name your daughter, “Emma Grace”??  I did!!!  Random fact:  The flower girl in our wedding was Emma Grace.  🙂

If I was going to play this game today, my list would look very different!  This is my list today…

Mallie-If Bowen would have been a girl, I’m 99% positive this would have been the name.

Pippen-We have a friend named “Pippen” at the gym and I absolutely love it!!

Britton/Britain/Brittyn-I have no idea how I’d spell that one, but I think it’s adorable.  Just to clarify, I’d name her “Britton Blair”.  So cute, huh?

Teagan

Tatum

Channing-I know I listed, “Tatum” above.  hahahaha!  I know a little girl named, “Channing”.  Love it!

Those are my very favorites!!  Now it’s your turn!  Please leave a comment telling me what your daughters name is AND if you had a baby girl right now…what would you name her??  I’m hoping we help some preggo mamas out there.  🙂  Can’t wait to hear your suggestions!  Thanks, ladies!
Also, don’t forget we’re sharing our goals/bucket lists tomorrow!!

Love this Erika!! My niece (who is like my daughter) is named Emma Kay. We were looking for a name that went with Kay after my sister and mom, and Emma fit the bill. If I had a baby girl right now, I would name her Clara Elihu (like Claire but with ah at the end :)) Elihu (Pronounced Ella-yhoo) is one of Job's friends in the bible. I open love a name that has meaning to it. Good luck to all you mamas to be out there!

I mentioned last week that we plan to stick with initials MMM for our kids and that started because of my long love for the name Madeline Marie. Marie after a aunt who passed away before I was born and Madeline just because we love it! That is top pick for a girl. If we have more girls: Meredith or Molly are favorites 🙂

I named my daughter Julia Elisabeth. Julia was inspired by Julia Child (she didn't learn to cook until she was 40!!!). I gave birth to Julia at 41 and loved the inspiration that it is never too late to profoundly change your life. Elisabeth is my first name. Our last name is Foley so her initials spell out 'Jef' which is a way of honoring my husband whose name is Jeff. If I were to have another girl I like Katherine (but would call her Kat).Emma is actually a favorite too 🙂

I absolutely love this game! I love hearing what other people name their kids too. I'm such a girly, girl! We just found out we are having another boy but we would have named baby #2 Larkin or Kinsington (yes, a total copy from Kensingston Shull:) if a girl. We got our first son's name, Donovan, from the credits on Scrubs. I think it's kind of popular now though? My husband and I have the hardest time agreeing! I wanted Hans or Elias and he wanted Karl. My husband moved here from Sweden, so we tried picking a Swedish name but couldn't agree. I did learn NOT to tell anyone our choices! It makes it even more difficult to choose. Thanks for the fun game!

My daughter's name is Quinn. We had THE hardest time naming her. Coming up with Ryan for her twin brother was easy but we couldn't seem to decide on a girl's name. I had always loved the name Quinn but was worried that I would offend a childhood friend who named her daughter that just a year before. So after we couldn't decide on anything else, I messaged her for permission, ha! Other names I love: Annie, Charlotte Anne, Shea, Renee, Wesley Ann, Blakely, Natalie..

I was the hospital all day..but the nurse didn't do her job right…no contraception machine….. and she was very mean. Sent me home saying I would be back in a few hours. My daughter name and her birthday are all about Love. The feeling of God presence while I was alone givng north to my daughter was overwhelming (in a good way). I was scared…I was calm.

My daughters are Kelsey Marie and Taylor Erin. My best friend's niece is Kelsey and when she was born in 1982, I said that if I ever have a girl, she would be a Kelsey! So in 1989 I got my wish! With Taylor, I had just always loved that name and knew if I had another girl, she would be a Taylor. I really wanted Taylor Nichole but her initials would have been TNA and my ex husband was having NO part of that! Kids are cruel! So we decided on Erin and in 1992 I got my sweet Taylor Erin! Oddly enough, when I divorced and met the now Love of My Life…his last name is Taylor! So needless to say that has been a fun little item in our family for the last 17 years! Love this game! We had a really hard time coming up with our daughters name. We just knew we were having a boy (dr. even told us so at an early ultrasound) A few weeks later we were told it was a girl. I had always wanted to name her Annalise, but after saying the name out loud it just didn't seem to fit. We would say lots of names to the belly to see if any of them worked, and one day I said "Logan" and she kicked! That was it for me. It took a little while for my husband to come around, but that's her name! Her middle name is Cropper (My husband's Nanny's maiden name–she passed right before we found out we were pregnant) If we have another girl here are my top choices: Greer, Claire, Hannah, Kendall. I always love to see what people name their babies, and to hear stories of how they came up with their names.

3 girls… Gretchen Rose, Megan Claire, and Adalyn Pearl- all of their names have the meaning of "Pearl"… it was easy with Gretchen and Megan. My daughter's name is Autumn Grace. When I was growing up I didn't like my own name because I didn't think it was creative enough. So I vowed to use more unusual names for my daughters. I chose the name Autumn before I even started dating my husband and it was one of the "conditions" that I had before agreeing to get married. She was born eleven years later. She is now ten years old, and I am still head over heals in love with her name. We do use both names even though we aren't Southeners. When I got pregnant again two years ago, I didn't think I could ever love a name as much. But I did, with the name Ruby. To me, it's the perfect name. It's British sounding, she has a built in theme song (the Rolling Stones's Ruby Tuesday) and the name appears in Anne of Green Gables (my favorite book growing up). Some others I thought of were Hope. Juniper, Lily and Saffron with either Caroline or Evangeline for the middle name.

My daughters names are Emily Brooke and Ashtyn Brenna. Our oldest daughters name was picked in Disney when we put four names (two he liked and two I liked) on individual napkins face down while in a restaurant and the waitress picked the napkins. First pick was first name and second pick was middle name. For some reason, we had the hardest time agreeing on a name the first time around. Emily was my husbands first pick and Brooke was mine, so it worked out well for us. As far as our youngest, I have loved the name Ashtyn ever since 1985 when I watched the "North and South" miniseries as a teenager. One of the main characters was named Ashton and I thought she was beautiful with her long dark hair and dark eyes (the fact that she was a bit of a….ummm…not a nice girl. Well, I chose to forget that part). Now I have my own dark haired, dark eyed beauty who has a wonderful heart. Brenna means "little Raven" in Gaelic and she was born 10 weeks early, I'm half Scottish and we are Ravens fans, so it fit.

I LOVE picking baby names! Girl names are so much easier, because there are also so many boy names that have moved over to girl names. I had the hardest time picking my son's name! I have always wanted to name my little girl Britton. That's my maiden name and I come from a family of girls so the name isn't going on to the next generation sadly. Unfortunately it does NOT go with my last name at all, which ends in "ton". I've been trying to think of alternatives I could use like Brynn or Britt maybe. Picking names is so hard. I was 8 months pregnant when we finally picked our son's name. I also love Spencer, Genevieve, Amelia, Piper, Sutton, Bennett and Ramsey.

(We planned on a 3rd (and 4th) just not when our second son Trent was only 16 mo when she was born! Pretty sure I would not have had a girl if it was planned;). God had his own plan;). Anyway her name is Lola May. She was named after my husbands grandma who passed away 2 weeks before my husband and his twin brother were born. She was also a nurse, as am I and one of my grandmothers. There were many granddaughters born before our daughter but no one had used the name so we felt very fortunate to be able to use it! If we were to have another (my husband says NO WAY) her name would be Charli Adell. Husbands name is Charly and my middle is Adell. My youngest, Ty, would have been named this.

We had a hard time when we found out we were having a girl. My husband only wanted a name that he heard of before and somewhat common. To make it harder, since I am Jewish, we are suppose to name them after a family member that passed away. You are suppose to keep the first initial the same. My daughters name is Samantha Michelle. Samantha was easy, after my grandmother Sylvia. We had the hardest time coming up with a middle name that started with M, after my husbands mother who passed away from cancer when my husband was in college. We finally came up with Samantha Michelle and I still love it. My daughter just turned 10! By the way, if she was a boy I loved Scott Michael (same initials)

This morning I heard on the radio that there are some people in Switzerland, that you can pay $20,000 that will find a unique name for your baby that no one has ever had before. It takes 12 people and 100 hours of work to come up with a list of 15 names. When I heard that I immediately thought of your blog and this post!

For a girl I've thought of having a name that has Leigh in it somewhere. I just love how it's written. So I've thought of Ryleigh. I also like like Kae or Mae. But now I think masculine names sound cute for girls. Like Blake, Ryan (although if I chose Ryan I'd think of a different spelling) even the names you suggested Channing and Tatum!

I love talking about names. We are done having babies, but I still enjoy talking about it! When we were expecting our daughter, we were pretty set that we were going to name her Elyse. My husband is a blue eyed blond and I have dark hair and brown eyes. Our first child, our son has dark brown hair and big brown eyes. My entire pregnancy I imagined "my Elyse" with brown hair and brown eyes. When my daughter was born she had light blond hair and big blue eyes. I loved her the moment I saw her, but told my husband that this baby was not Elyse. I said that "my Elyse has brown hair" To my sweet husband's credit, he went with it. He was probably afraid what his hormonal wife would do if he didn't 😉 We named our daughter Caroline. She's definitely a Caroline and I can't imagine her as anything else. And…. Yes my husband does still tease me about this.

I knew what her middle name would be the moment we found out we were pregnant with a girl. my best friend passed away in 2011 and her middle name was Marie and I knew that I wanted my daughter to share her middle name. We decided on Aria when we were 8 months along. We had thought Sophia for a while, but decided it was way too popular. Love the name Aria as it is a little different, and it means Melody. I have played violin for 24 years and love that her name is related to music. We had our son first Kanaan (Canaan with a K) Lee (Hubby, my grandma, Hubby's grandpa's middle names). When we got pregnant again Hubby refused to even discuss boy names because "we had used our name and were having a girl" we did have a girl so we were able to use Eden Hope. We usually call her Eden,Eden Hope, Sissy, or Sissy Hope. I also love Zion if we ever have another boy. They all happen to be Bible place names so now I feel like we have to stick with that theme and I don't like any other girl Bible place names.
