It’s been a while since I’ve shared a little “Top Three” list with you. I’m thinking it’s time. 😉
Before we get started, you should head over to Shay’s blog. She’s sharing some BIG NEWS with you guys and you don’t want to miss it. Trust me.
I told you it was big. 🙂
I get asked a lot about blogging. All kinds of why, when, and where type questions from people I meet or who read here. I shared some thoughts on blogging here and here. But one question I’ve never answered on the blog is…“What are some things I wish people had told me about blogging?”.
This is gonna be fun.
#1 You will take pictures of EVERYTHING. And I do mean everything.
As a blogger you start to think of your life in blog posts. Anything and everything could lead to a post if the idea strikes. I remember sharing this with you girls a few years ago. I was at the gym getting ready and I took a picture of something…my hair, jewelry, make-up, something and one girl said, “Did you just take a picture of yourself” in the most disgusted tone. I TOTALLY denied the picture!! Why did I not just own it? I have NO clue, but I didn’t!
#2 You will think of people you’ve never met as friends!
You girls are SO encouraging to me. You have the best advice, give the best recommendations, and are simply awesome! I know it sounds crazy, but I think of us as friends. In real-life I’d shriek and hug you if we met…which leads me to my next one…
#3 You will meet other bloggers and fan-girl like a boss.
I do this one as both a blogger and a blog reader. I’ll see people whose blog I read in real-life and fan-girl, pull out my nervous laugh, and be on the cusp of breaking out in hives before I reach my normal “Erika” levels. haha! And if someone tells me they read my blog, I want to HUG them but I realize that might scare them so I do the above steps…nervous laugh, and so on. 🙂
What about you guys? What do you wish someone would have told you about blogging? I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
Have a GREAT day! XOXO
I just love all of the McKinney mommas blogs! 🙂
I agree! I feel like a tag along friend! Luckily I live in Tennessee because if I lived there I would be a total fan girl!
Side funny, I talk about each of you to my husband and refer to you by your first name! He thinks I crazy. He says, "You think you really know them." Lol
Hahaha! I do a similar thing… I say, " my good friend Shay said…" or " my good friend, Erika said…"
I agree…I take pictures of EVERYTHING! My husband thinks I'm CRAZY!!
I have a few faithful readers and I just want to set up a lunch date and hug their necks! but that's kind of hard when they live 1,000's of miles from me! HA
Love your advise!!

All of this is SO TRUE! ESPECIALLY the FAN GIRLING! I hadn't been blogging for long when Shay and I got to meet Melanie (Big Mama), Kelly (Kelly's Korner), and Sophie (Boo Mama)…and I felt like I was going to stroke out on the car ride to their hotel. They were of course as sweet as can be (and normal as can be), but I felt like I was meeting celebrities!
You are so crazy!!!!!! That was such a fun day! Can we do it again!!! I will be the one fan girling this time!
Love you friend :). I'm going to miss you! It's a good thing you'll take pictures of everything I'll miss while I'm gone ;). xo
I totally agree I take photos of absolutely everything and it drives my family MAD! "Wait don't eat that I need to photograph that"! hahaha! Thanks for sharing!
'Fan girl like a boss!' Great line & great post!
I just got back into blogging this summer, and I wish I knew that I'd be getting more views and comments from strangers than my actual friends and family. I really appreciate it when people leave a comment- makes you feel like you accomplished something!
That is big exciting news! I'm so excited for them!!!! And yes to your top three! Except when I'm working during the school year, it's so hard to remember or even want to take pictures in the evenings!!! So, my Friday favorites which are usually highlights from the week will be very few moments this week!
This makes me miss my blog so much!! I agree – fan girling is a real thing and the friendships are the best part of blogging by far!!
I just said to my husband, "my friend in Texas is adopting another baby!" And he says "your friend? Do you know them?" He doesn't get it!
I would totally fan girl if I ever meet you and those sweet Texas mamas you blog with!!!
Building friendships with other bloggers is probably my biggest surprise. I love my blogging friends, which is so weird when I think about it. It seems like people either read blogs and love them or they are confused on what a blog even is. If someone asks why I blog, I don't even have the energy to explain it, because I know they aren't going to "get it". And Shay's news… Oh my word! 🙂
These are all so true! Constant photos and thinking about photos is definitely the life of a blogger. I was very surprised by all the friendships and how invested you become in the lives of people you've never met in person!

You will road trip thousands of miles to meet your blog friends. And when you actually meet IRL it will feel like picking up in the middle of a conversation. I feel so fortunate that I've gotten to meet five blog friends.
It takes a lot of technical knowledge which is frustrating! 🙂 Photos for sure. I feel like the biggest idiot taking a photo of really anything in public, so that aspect of blogging is out of my comfort zone. "Meeting people" is as you described. And Pinterest is one of the best sources for blogs to advertise.
Everyone hugs in the south, so I'm totally cool with it if we ever meet in person! Love reading your blog! 🙂
#1 had me laughing so hard. I swear, my family must think I'm nuts since I started blogging. I find myself taking pictures of THE weirdest things… like a picture of my water bottle in the locker room at the gym earlier. I mean, why?! Haha.
And GIRL, I would totally fan-girl if I met any of you sweet McKinney, TX bloggers… y'all are like celebrities to me, but at the same time I also feel like we're BFFs since I know so much about you. Blogging is so weird and wonderful!
I don't blog, but I get the friend thing! I think of all of you girls as my friends and I don't know any of you! Ha! 🙂
Thanks for this post! I always wondered does it cost you anything to have a blog?
Yes to all this! And I wish we could meet up again! We will have to!!!!
I so want to bump into you….we would be shrieking like two little girls! 🙂
