Let’s be real most of the time over here on the blog I’m sharing things I’m good at, right? I’m not bragging AT all, but just sharing in hopes that it’ll be beneficial or helpful to someone else. I started thinking…”Why don’t I share the things I’m not good at and then maybe someone will have some ideas for me”? And voila! This blog post was born. 🙂 So in no particular order these are the things I am NOT good at….
*Drawing
This is pretty much as good as it gets from me. Ebby Lee wants to be an artist and I have NO idea where those genes came from!
*Public Speaking
You guys. I mean for real I have a big problem with this. Think red face. Think sweat. Think nervous laugh. Sometimes even think hives depending on the severity of the situation. I remember choosing a degree in college and weighing the not-having-to-take-a-public-speaking-class very highly when deciding. Seems crazy to me, but as an early childhood education major-I did not have to take the class.
*Geography
This one applies to anywhere outside of the United States. I’m pretty good right here in the U.S., but if you ask me where ANY other place is, I’m in trouble. I could tell you the continent. hahaha! (We did a fun little song/dance about the five seven continents when I was a teacher. I have those down!) *Except-I published this and said I could tell you where the FIVE continents are, so maybe I’m not good at continents either. Thanks, “Anonymous” for pointing that out. It was seriously just a typo, but super funny and proved my point about geography.* But…not the name of the country for sure!
*History
I should go ahead and add any sort of historical thing onto the list. I’m 99% sure my high school history teacher does not read this blog, but I’m just going to say that history was NOT my favorite subject. I’m sure it was all me and not her. Basically, we read sections and answered questions. I memorized the information long enough to remember it for my test and then it was gone.
*Reflexes
I mean I know everyone has reflexes, but mine are the opposite of cat-like. You know that game where someone holds their hands on top of yours and you try to slap their hand before they move them away?? You know what I’m talking about? Let me tell you that if my life depended on it, I’d go down because my reflexes are lacking. I have no clue why Tab and I ever played that, but we can laugh so hard by playing that game and observing my turtle-like reflexes.
*Laundry
Really who is good at laundry? Anyone? Every single time I get all caught up I tell myself that I will not let it get that out of control again. Give it a week and there I am again. I have definitely gotten better, but I still have a bit to go. Maybe I should set a daily alarm that reminds me to do a load of laundry?
*Remembering Hair Appointments
I’ve never missed a hair appointment. Whew! Those things are serious around here! But…I have the hardest time remembering the date/time. I ALWAYS have to call or text my hair stylist to ask when it is. I’m sure it’s annoying for her, but she’s gotten used to it and will now remind me with plenty of notice. I think I forget because I make them in advance?
What about you?? What are you not good at? Maybe we can give each other some helpful ideas. If you have any about the laundry, please let me know! 🙂
I'm not good at so many things: potty training, remembering to get gas, going into Target without spending $100…just to name a few :). Happy Monday girl!!
That Target one is so true!!! Who can do that?
I think they pump some sort of smell into the store to make you buy buy buy!!
There are seven continents. Not five.
Hahahahaha! Okay, so clearly geography isn't my strong suit!
there are 7 continents not 5
Well, now I really want to play that reflex game with you to see your car like reflexes! Haha!! Cute, cute post!! Love you!!
They're really bad!!!
Shay and Andrea are both good at laundry. Maybe we shouldn't be friends with them anymore. 🙂
I want to know their secret! !!
Me too!!! Or maybe Sheaffer they should just do ours since there so good at it? 🙂
Oh my gosh, I love this! I especially loved when I clicked the comments and the 2nd comment says, "there are 7 continents not 5"… but hey, you admitted you weren't good at geography! LOL! I am horrible at drawing! So, so bad! I hate it when kids at school ask me to draw! Have a great Monday!
Hahahahaha!!! I know! About drawing-me too! I have no skills!
The first four are the same for me!
🙂
Count me I. For the bad at drawing, outside NorthAmerica geography and history!
We should be friends!!!
Same thing happens to me with public speaking. AND I'm about to be the Wildcat Booster Club president and will have to get up and talk in front of 400 people at the athletic banquet next year. Not sure how I will handle that. LOL
Oh girl!!! I'll be praying for you NOW!!
Oh my goodness, I'm almost certain you wrote this list about me! Awful at geography, check! (I bought myself a globe to improve my knowledge, lol!). Awful at history, check! (Don't ask me historical dates, can't remember!) Awful at remembering to move the laundry over (honest to goodness, there's a load of mildew-y laundry sitting in my washer that needs to be rehashed at this very moment!). And fear of public speaking, hello! (This is a biggie for me! Seriously, I even catch myself rehearsing voicemail messages before I leave one, in fear I'm going to mess it up and say something wrong!) Honestly, thanks so much for sharing! Sometimes it's hard to see so much "perfection" in blogs out there ("Look at me! I can do it all!"), so it's nice to see a blogger "keeping it real!" : )
Hahaha!!! Soul sisters?! 🙂
I don't mind doing laundry, but PUTTING it away will do me in. Hahaha. And my memory is terrible – I have to write stuff down or put it in my phone calendar or else it doesn't happen. I always say "If it isn't in my Outlook, it isn't happening." Fun post – thanks for sharing! 🙂
I agree!!! The putting it away is the extremely difficult part b
Are you my long lost sister?? Because drawing-nope, geography-nope (pretty sure I could not even name all the continents), history-I thought we won the Alamo until I took my bigs there about 15 years ago!, and public speaking – no…although I'm much better at it now but I still do not like it. Best way to tackle laundry as your kids get older is turn it over to them…I seriously had to let go of this one and if they want to pull their clothes out of the basket all week instead of hanging them up that is their choice..and that goes for my husband too.
Maybe so?! 🙂
We would get along well because we would NEVER talk about history. I'm embarrassed with how little I know.
Hahaha!!! Me too!!!
Love this post! Thanks for always being so honest & owning your quirks!

Thanks Kelsey!!
I think many people share your non-talent of laundry, I know I do! It's a struggle every week! Fun post.
Thank you!!
Haha great idea for a post. I kind of think of blogs and facebook posts as highlight reels, you post the stuff you want to remember. But this is great! Oh man, there are so many things I'm not good at!
I thought of SO many things later today! I need to do another installment!
YES to the Geography and History, if my life depended on it, I could not give you one historical date. So sad. Funny you write this post, I did one that was similiar, you did everyday things I did really outlandish things…like pole vaulting and paranormal detective. http://foxysdomesticside.blogspot.com/2015/02/things-i-would-be-awful-at.html
And I am LOL to Shay's " Going into Target without spedning $100" So true!
I need to check it out!!
I'm one of those people who don't mind laundry and I think it's because it took me a while to figure out what works for my family. Now, dishes. I hate. My sink is never empty. I don't like doing anything with dishes. Anyway, for laundry I do 1 load a day. I put it in in the morning, put it in the dryer while my kids nap, then take it out, throw it on our bed and fold it, and put it away before bed at night. It really helps to do 1 a day so that I don't feel overwhelmed. Occasionally, I'll have to do two loads, but most of the time I can do 1 each day. It doesn't seem so daunting when it's only one. Anyway, maybe try that and see. I only have two kids, but it still works for me.
I always say I'm gonna do that and it lasts about two days! I'm committed this time! (Hopefully)
You are to funny! At least your honest about what you're not good at. As an early education teacher too, we don't need to draw, we just color!! Laundry, don't not like me after this statement – I LOVE doing laundry! Mindless, boring, it is the one thing I actually feel I accomplish even if it is for just a day. Mind you, I don't have little ones anymore at home, but the hubs, he makes up for it big time. Enjoyed your post!
I HATE public speaking too!!! And I'm a teacher so everyone automatically thinks I love it. So not true. It's so much easier to talk to a bunch of kids than adults!

Don't worry- my best friend is getting married in Hawaii and I just realized its in the US…like how did I miss that?! I felt so stupid asking if we needed to change our phone plans and get our passports (true story)?! OMG!! And I'm a teacher….yeah totally missed that lesson.

Omg, I'm glad I'm not alone in the terrible at geography (other than the U.S.) and history boat! I always say that for someone with a Master's degree, I know shockingly little about those two areas!
