Random Thoughts-A Hot Random Mess Kind of Post

Yesterday, I shared a little introduction or possibly a re-introduction if you’ve been reading here a while.  To be honest, I’ve shared 10 Things and 10 Things that make me happy-Part 1 and Part 2  in other blog posts.  But today, I’m sharing more!   These are random facts, things happening at our house now and other random thoughts I’m having at the moment.

I had every intention of including facts and once I started typing…random thoughts were popping out.  Instead this post became “Random Thoughts In My Head”.  🙂

*Right now our house is in SHAMBLES.  Seriously, we’re a hot mess over here.  You know how your house can get to the point of everything needing to be taken out of closets, drawers, cabinets, and cleaned out, reorganized, and purged?  I’ve been fighting the urge to do this for so many reasons, but I finally decided NOW is the time!  So we have piles…to be donated, to take to the dump, to be given to friends.  I mean piles are everywhere.   We still have a long way to go, but I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  Granted, it’s WAY down there but I can see it.  😉

*Because of the state of our house right now, it’s safe to say-I’m a messy non-hoarder, but Tab is a clean hoarder.  He wants to keep it all and I’m throwing everything out.  But…if you looked at our closet, you’d definitely call him the tidy one.

*I must add I do hoard one thing…BOOKS.  If someone’s going to offer a book for me to read, I’m going to take it!  I might get to it read it until 2021, but I’ll take it!

*We’ve entered the stage at our house where every kid can shower/bathe himself/herself.  Let me tell you…it’s amazing!  Might be my favorite milestone we’ve hit so far.
*With that said, there’s always the question…”how clean are they getting”?  Right?  Bowen is who I’m worried about the most and thankfully, he errs on the side of using too much soap.  (Which is where I’d prefer him to err if I had to choose.)  So I’m not too worried.  He walks downstairs and everyone can smell his watermelon soap the second his foot touches the bottom stair.

*I’m not sure if this is a normal thing or not but we wear pajamas once around here and then they all get washed.  What do you guys do at your house?  Yes, my kids shower nightly so the pajamas are clean, they on clean sheets, but we get a new fresh pair every night.  Me included.  Even on trips…I pack enough for us all to have a clean pair every night.  My mom was visiting one time and mentioned my laundry pile being a lot less if we wore the same pair of pajamas two nights before washing.  There’s just something about being clean and getting in fresh, clean pajamas.
*I feel like I’m pretty patient, loving, and kind 99% of the time (I’m talking about Tab here-if it was the kids I’d continue) but if he has a stomach bug, I want a MASK anytime I’m in the same room.  I don’t want him to move from one room to another, I only want him to drink out of one cup, touch one remote, etc.  I get a little crazy about it…I can mingle with his strep germs, a cold, or some respiratory infection but if he has a stomach bug-I’m out.  I’ll send supplies under the door.

*What are your thoughts on all those off-the-shoulder tops and dresses this season?  They’re SO cute!  Especially with a ruffle…right?  I feel like they’re a little much to wear on a day-to-day basis.  Perfect for girls’ night out or date night, but not the right look for preschool drop off and grocery shopping.  But…I feel like there aren’t many other shirts out there now that aren’t off-the-shoulder.  Anyway else having this thought?  What are we supposed to wear the other 92% of the week?  Where are those tops?

I hope I didn’t bore you too much with this big bunch of randomness.

Hope you’re having a great Wednesday!  XO

Now, it’s your turn…what’s a random thought you’re having right now? 🙂

This post made me crack up! I'm so jealous that everyone bathes themselves at your house. And I think it would be okay if you wore pjs two nights in a row. You hate laundry so much, so I'm actually surprised you don't wear them 12 nights in a row ;).

We also wear fresh pj's every night. We also use the bath towels two times then they get washed and I have a ton of laundry but don't want the kids to wear the same pjs 2 nights in a row. Loved this post.

Pj's one night? It sounds delightful, but heck no. Do you wash your towels after every use as well? "I'll send supplies under the door" made me lol. 🙂

Sheaffer…tonight we're rewearing. Maybe? Ha! Not sure I can do it. No, we use our towels a couple times and then I wash them. And Tab likes to come out and mingle with all his sick germs…NO, keep those in one room!

    Bailey…glad I'm not the only one. 🙂

We do fresh pj's every night too. And we do fresh towels each time too. My grandma told me once "you have enough towels to use a fresh one every night" and so I do. I've turned into a bit of a germaphobe lately! I try to do one load of laundry a day (like you've mentioned before) and I don't feel overwhelmed.

Girl, the independent showering/bathing phase is ahhh-mazing. Like life-changing. I adore 6 year olds. Oh, and we are "new pair of jammies every night" people, too. I couldn't do it two nights in a row so I don't think I could make the kiddos do it. Plus, Ry and I are "warm sleepers" so yeah, they need washing. Now, towels… those can go at least a week, right?! 😉

I can't get my kids to wear pj's. Two boys 7 & 9 and they only wear underwear! Sometimes my battle is, don't wear your underwear two days in a row!! Boys!
I completely agree with the off the shoulder looks. They do look cute but they aren't an everyday wear. The options are limited for none off the shoulder looks! Good luck in the search!!

The kids wear new pj's every night. And sometimes they wear one set to bed, get hot during the night and take them off, then wear a SECOND pair down to breakfast in the morning. The laundry situation is out of control for sure but it's not a fight I want to take on in the grand scheme of things. For vacations I take only two sets of pj's for each kid and they complain every single time. Ha! For me, I wear them for two nights then switch.

I'm with you on the off the shoulder shirt situation! Not practical for moms on the go! So I am loving the spring/summer outfits in Sheaffer's post today. I have one of the madewell tees but I'm going to have to get a couple more bc I will be living in those:) So easy to style with a necklace and cute sandals and look put together while being super comfy at the same time! Also, my ADD self LOVED this post!!

I'm with you on the off the shoulder or cut out shoulder shirt looks! I bought a casual plaid shirt with cut-outs on the shoulder area and I almost feel like it's too "sexy" to wear to school pick ups! I mean we are talking a flannel here, so it's not exactly "sexy" but exposing my shoulders makes me feel like I'm showing skin! But then again, they are shoulders!? What's a mom to do with this trend?!

My boys wear regular clothes to sleep in (athletic shorts and tshirts) which drives me crazy because it's fewer choices for during the week. I feel like I'm always doing laundry! I'd love if they at least wore their pajama pants and maybe a different shirt every night! But at least they've been showering without help for several years now! Love that I can throw them both in together and I only have to yell at them a couple of times to quit playing and WASH! haha.

I still do not trust my 8 yo to get all the shampoo and conditioner out of her hair so most nights I throw her hair in a bun and she can shower herself. It's amazing! We wear fresh PJ's too. If we shower we get clean clothes. I am weird about towels too. I always smell a towel before using it, LOL! Insert my crazy. If you are throwing up- I am OUT. I would make an exceptional nurse if only it did not involve throw up. If your belly hurts, stay away from me!

Mine have been underwear only sleepers pretty much since they got out of diapers so no PJs at our house. I can't do the off the shoulder tops and I've wanted a cold shoulder one but not sure I can do it either. LOL. And I don't do vomit….ever!!! The few times my kids have been sick hubby has had to deal with them because I just can't do it.

Love posts like this! Haha! We wear our PJs two nights before putting in the laundry basket. It does help on the laundry pile. Also, I really dislike the off-the-shoulder and the holes in the shoulders tops that are SO popular right now. I mean they are EVERYWHERE in the stores. I just don't like them because I have very broad shoulders and I just don't want to have holes in my shirts! I also don't like that it makes you have to wear a strapless bra. I too have had a hard time finding shirts that aren't these styles. The stores need to back off!

We are a house full of piles right now too. Donate, consignment, give away, etc. I hope to be finished by this weekend because all the piles are driving me CRAZY!! I'm the same way with my husband anytime he is sick. He is a firefighter/EMT and is exposed to so much and he is always the first to get sick and then gives it to me. At the first sign of sickness I try to quarantine him and keep my distance. I still take care of him but I wash my hands constantly and clean like it's my full time job. I may wear pj's two nights in a row but rarely. Fresh, clean pajamas are just a treat at the end of the day 🙂

I have had the SAME thoughts about the off the shoulder tops. I work in a corporate office and am having the hardest time trying to find cute shirts that are work (and mom, because #2kids2andunder) appropriate right now. And in regards to the PJ thing, I will wear the same gown for a few nights but my kids get fresh PJs each night. Love these random posts, by the way!

My kids wear new pjs every night but I will wear a nightgown for like 3 nights in a row. I just love having my kids in fresh pjs every night. Funny post!! For me, it depends if I take a shower at night I need fresh pjs, if I know I'm going to shower in the morning then I'll wear the same pjs. But it's usually no more than 2 days of wear. My daughter differs in that if it's a new set of pjs or nightgown she'll want to wear it the whole week, lol, otherwise every other day she'll switch it up.

We only wear our pajamas once and then it's a clean pair for the next night. We also shower every single night even if we showered earlier that day. I just can not get into the bed if I'm not freshly showered! We do use our towels about 3 times before washing them.

I did kind of the same post today — a bunch of randomness about March. But, E, honey, you need to let the kids (and yourself!) wear pj's 2-3 times before laundering!! Especially if you have them do baths/showers at night. Unless they don't wear underwear with them?
And I'm with you on off-the-shoulder tops — cute but NOT every day. Plus they are so trendy I don't want to buy too many. . .

Oh gosh, re-using a towel grosses me out. So many germs. We use all towels once and in the dirty laundry they go. Hand towels get used throughout the day, maybe, then at the end of each day in the dirty laundry they go. Super super religious about not re-using towels. I don't even see how you could want to. Haha

I'm with you on the bath situation. Best day of my life was the first time both kids bathed myself. And according to my kids any time any piece of clothes comes off the hanger or out of the drawer it's immediately dirty whether they actually wear it or not. I think they think my hobby is actually doing laundry. #sigh 😔

    theKfam said:

Don't know why this is so fascinating to me but it is! Lol! To me, towels stay clean for a while because they're used immediately after washing hands/body so how can they be dirty right away? And the shoulder shirts…I haven't jumped on board because I feel like they won't be around very long but I could be wrong!😉

  44. 4.6.17
    Corinne said:

OK, so I have to be honest, I am REALLY jealous of the kids bathing themselves part. How did you teach Ebby Lee to wash her own hair? My daughter has REALLY thick, REALLY long hair and I cant even imagine her being able to wash it herself. I'm guessing it's a little easier for the boys!

We only wear our pajamas once before they go in the laundry too. And towels, we use twice before THEY go in the laundry too.

And you're nicer about a sick husband than I am. If he's got germs of ANY kind, I want him quarantined in his own space away from me, away from my babies… If there were sick hotels, I would ship him off to one. I can handle kid germs, but I have ZERO tolerance for man germs (and man whining).

Wow! I am soooo in the minority! No wonder we're nearly in a global water crisis with all the washing going on! Haha. I have four kids…they wear pjs at least 2 nights. Use towels for 2-4 days. I wash all 10 loads…yep 10 and that's just the kids…and fold on Friday for THEM they put away. The boys 10 & 7 actually prefer underwear now. They wouldn't be caught dead in regular pjs. My 13 year old wears whatever she wants for as long as she wants. Who knows!? Haha. And the 6 year old she wears most gowns 2 nights but who knows if she sneaks in another night! I'm either the most laid back mom of all the commenters or the slackest!😉

Ok, im late to the party but this post cracked me up and I had to comment… on the off the shoulder tops.. whyyyyyy? I mean they are cute but they are legit everywhere. That just screams fad! Let's simmer down and add some options. On PJs and towels, in college I reused my towels but I never even consider it now! Same with pjs… fresh and clean every day.. but I wear a tank top every day (I'm in to the layered look) and I will wear that two days in a row! So inconsistent!! Ha. I have two boys (8&4) neither will wear pjs ever so no extra laundry there. Fun post to read, even a couple months later!
