Before we even get to the topic at hand, I wanted to say thank you for sharing your tips and tricks for all things eye patching, strep throat, and even pole vaulting from my post yesterday. Thank you for all your help!
I’ve got another Allure Best of Beauty Award Product Review. I just started doing this last month because I’m always inspired by that list of products Allure puts out every year. Last month I shared my thoughts on the Hydrating Gel, you can see the full post right here. I can already tell you next month my plan is to review more than one product in my March post. I’ve already been using two products and will share all my thoughts, but today it’s just one…

The Allure Best of Beauty Award for Best Shampoo and Conditioner for Damaged Hair goes to…
Dove Hair Therapy Rescue & Protect Shampoo and Conditioner
The Dove Hair Therapy Rescue & Protect Shampoo is:
*Sulfate Free
*Designed to help with split ends
*Protects hair from heat damage and breakage
*It contains ceramide and peptides to strengthen and repair hair
The Dove Hair Therapy Rescue & Protect Conditioner is all of those same things listed above. The conditioner works in just one minute. After washing hair with the Dove Shampoo, you add this conditioner, leave for a minute and then rinse it out.
At such great price points, I couldn’t wait to try this shampoo and conditioner. I’ve been coloring my hair since my sophomore year of high school so I definitely qualify in the “damaged” hair department. And well, here’s my harsh but true thoughts….my hair has never looked worse. I contemplated reaching out to my hair stylist just yesterday with a, “MAYDAY!!”, text. I decided against it but am going to put this shampoo and conditioner away and see if that helps. Shockingly, I’ve actually noticed more split ends than ever before. After curling my hair, I’ve really noticed jagged ends more than ever before.
I won’t be recommending this product to anyone, but I’d love to hear YOUR THOUGHTS. Has anyone tried it? Maybe it’s just not working on my hair but it’s done wonders for yours? If you have any experience with these Dove Therapy Rescue & Protect products, please share!
Next month, we’re talking a hair mask and a sunscreen oil. Hopefully if I share more than one product, I can at least share one thing I love and recommend! That’s the plan!
Happy Wednesday, Friends!
XO
I’m working on my own shampoo/conditioner review and the other day, I tried a brand new set and threw it right in the trash after one use. Ugh! I hate when products go south!
I understand!! It was terrible, but next time I need to review enough products I can share something I love. Otherwise, this is a negative series every month!
As a licensed hairdresser I can confirm that it is always best to splurge on the professional products that are recommended by your stylist. It will really save you money in the long run. We realize the temptation is there – especially when everything is so expensive these days. If you can possibly avoid drugstore hair products your hair will really be better off. Sorry this happened to you! However, Dove skincare products are great and have been recommended by dermatologists for years! Looking forward to more fun posts from you!😀
Thank you MJ! It’s definitely noted! haha! It was the Allure Beauty Award that REALLY tempted me!
I love the honesty of this review. I was kind of shocked to see this is what you were reviewing because we hated this shampoo. Then read your review and I couldn’t agree more.
In a WEIRD way, I almost feel like it stripped some of my color too? I got my hair highlighted about 3 weeks ago so I should have another 3 weeks before I go but my roots look so grown out.
Oh, no, that’s terrible! I haven’t tried this but was intrigued as your post started and now I want to run in the opposite direction. I am currently looking for a new S&C for my dry, color-treated hair. My all time absolute favorite was discontinued and my backstock is running out. I want a moisturizing shampoo that also cleans my scalp. So many leave my scalp feeling not clean.
Kristin, it’s like we’re searching for a unicorn. I feel you! Something that will REALLY hydrate! UGH…it’s gotta be out there!
I was experiencing some of the same issues. I finally settled on Colleen Rothschild’s shampoo & conditioner. It does work! They may still have it in the travel size so you can sample it before investing in the full size. Let me know if you try it.
Good to know! I’ll have to try!
I was so afraid for your hair when I saw the product! LOL
HAhahahah! Your comment made me laugh! I had such high hopes!
