One Room at a Time-Front Room Edition

This has been a SLOW, work-in-progress post, but I’m finally ready to share!

We moved into our house about two years ago knowing that we’d need to eventually update almost every square inch.  Since money doesn’t grow on trees {or maybe I’ve been looking in the wrong place for that special money tree?-ha!}, we’re slowly trying to complete one room at a time.

So far we’ve updated…

And today, I’m showing you the front room.  I’m not really sure what to call this one, but “FRONT ROOM” has kind of stuck around here.

This room is right off the front door/entry way.  This room and the dining room are the first rooms you see when you walk inside.  We’re trying to start at the front door and work our way through the house.  {When everything needs to be updated, it seems like a good place to begin.}

Just to remind you, this was the room before…
And this is the room now…
I apologize for the lighting.  I took pictures with blinds open, with blinds closed, with the lights on, lights off and I’m sharing a mix of them all.

The dining room is a bit modern so we wanted to make this room feel a little more rustic/traditional to balance that modern out a bit.  In this room the big project was the fire place.  We wanted the fireplace to be similar to the fireplace in the living room but have a little more formal feel.  We also changed out the ceiling fan for a rustic light fixture, got some new furniture, and added a few finishing touches.

I got these chairs from Nebraska Furniture Mart.  {Exact chairs are linked.}  They’re over sized and super comfy.  Pillows were from Pottery Barn {sold out}, rug from Pottery Barn, and stools from Pottery Barn.

To be honest, the room is rarely used but I love that when people stop by or guests come over they’re greeted with a cute room.

Lamp:  I.O. Metro Outlet {In Fairview, for local girls}
Candle holder:  Z Gallerie {Sold out}
Picture Frames:  Are all old and probably all Hobby Lobby
Terra Cotta Vase:  Exact here from Pottery Barn
Blue Lantern:  {Sold out}
Tall Pyramid Thing:  {Canton Find}

The big mirror and the big buffet/table were both purchased from a friend.  They were both dark, Old World style pieces and we hired a local painter to update them.  She did a great job.  I love the way they turned out.

Everything on the mantle is sold out or old, but the planked wooden wall hanging is still in stock.

We changed out the blinds for plantation shutters as well.  This house had shutters on the front of the house-but only the upstairs rooms so we’re slowly changing those out.  #oneroomatatime

Again, please let me know if you find the money tree!  hahahaha!

The last thing we did to “complete” the room was change out the fan to this light fixture.  I can’t find ours online, but I ordered it from Ballard Designs.

I really like the way the room came together.

Marla gifted me this wall hanging for Christmas and it was PERFECT for the wall opposite the mirror.  It just fits this room.  I never took a picture of this wall because the floor length mirror was still out from taking pictures of the dresses last week.  #bloggerproblems  🙂

I’m not sure what room will be next.  I need to hang a few things in my office and then we could check it off our list.  I’m thinking we’ll put the finishing touches on the kiddos’ bedrooms and they’ll be checked off soon as well.

Hope you guys have a great Monday!  XO

    It looks great and a great way to welcome guests for sure! I feel like we have lived in our house for 4 years and built it and there are still things I am changing and tweaking. Just this weekend, I took down the art above my computer in my office…now to find what I want for that space ;). NO MONEY TREE here either but I will look 😉 xoxo ERIN

    Do you have any tips for installing plantation shutters? We just have a couple windows we want them in and I keep hoping to find an easy way to do it without hiring out!

    Wow, the fireplace is beautiful! We have a room like this that we never use, so we put the Christmas tree and stockings in there so the kids mess with them less

      If you don't enjoy crazy crowds, do not go to Nebraska Furniture on a weekend. It's always insane. Go the moment they open during the week or shop online.

    Who did you use to redo your fireplace? Our house was built in 1999, we moved in three years ago and have been doing the same thing – re-doing things bit by bit . Andthe one thing I need to do in our family room is to redo our 80's looking black tile fireplace but I have no idea who to call to do that? We are in DFW too. If you don't mind sharing, please share! I like your strategy of doing room by room. I kinda do random project by random project. We also need to do our front door. That and the fireplace are on my list as soon as we find that money tree… As is a laundry/pantry/mud room addition. Hahahah.

      I feel you!! I'll keep you posted on the money tree. I've gotten a couple emails asking who did our fireplace and to be honest, I wouldn't recommend him. They ripped our fireplace out back in November and it took months to complete the project. If I had it to do again, I'd contract it myself. This guy didn't coordinate everyone's schedules so we'd wait months on the cast stone guy. Wish I had a great recommendation!!!
