Let’s Talk…HAIR AND BEAUTY!

 Happy Monday, Girls!

If you’re like me, this weekend just wasn’t long enough.  We had a couple late nights and I could use one more weekend day to get caught up.  But, such is life, right?

Today, Andrea and I are “talking” about all things HAIR and MAKEUP!  From your hair routine, to favorite lip colors…we’re covering it all.  You can join us!

I’m gonna start by talking my favorite hair products…

*Moroccan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner-This shampoo and conditioner has quickly become my favorite.  I wash my hair about every three to four days and the Moroccan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner are my go-to.  They smell delightful, get out all the products from the days before, and condition my hair so well.

*Moroccan Oil Hydrating Cream-After washing my hair, I put a couple pumps of this in my wet hair.  It adds extra hydration to my “dry” hair and when I blow dry it leaves it very smooth.

*Wet Brush-I use the wet brush to comb through my wet mop of hair.

*BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Hair Dryer-About two years ago, I realized my cheap blow dryer just wasn’t cutting it so I decided to invest in a nicer dryer.  Immediately, my drying time was cut in half.  This not only dried my hair quicker, but it left my hair feeling smooth.  Win-win!

*BaByiss Pro Nano Titanium Hair Straightener-If I’m straightening my hair, then after drying, I use this straightener.  My hair dresser uses this brand and encouraged me years ago to upgrade.  I’ve never looked back since I switched.

*Moroccan Oil Treatment-After straightening, I always add a bit of the Moroccan Oil to smooth any stray pieces.

*Hot Tools Curling Iron-If I’m curling my hair, then after blow drying, I separate hair into sections and curl with this curling iron.

*Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream-After curling, I put a little of this all over hair to give it an even smoother texture.

Here are some random things about my hair routine…

*I only wash my hair every three to four days.
*I use dry shampoo every day I don’t wash my hair.
*This Batiste is my favorite dry shampoo brand.
*I pretty much wear my hair three ways…straight, curled, or in a pony tail.
*Because my hair is colored, it tends to get dry/brittle before getting super crazy greasy.  (I went through a period of MAJOR teasing and it destroyed my hair for a bit.)
*About once a year (for the last two years) I get a Keratin treatment (similar to a Brazilian Blow Out).  It tends to make my thick head of hair feel less bulky and smoother.
*Whatever I do after washing/blow drying-straighten or curl, I have to stick with that until I rewash my hair.  If I switch before washing, then my hair doesn’t stay curled or straight.

Beauty Products:

*Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizer-About three months ago, my beloved Tarte BB Cream ran out so I decided to give this moisturizer a chance.  Shay convinced me to mix a bit of this with a little of….

*Nars Illuminator-THIS!  I mix just a tad of the illuminator in and it gives my face a little shiny look.

*Beauty Blender-And because Sheaffer is so bossy I bought this sponge a while back but just hadn’t used it.  It’s the perfect applicator for my moisturizer/illuminator mix.

*Urban Decay Naked Palette-I’ve had this palette for probably too long, but it’s my favorite/my go-to.

*Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil Eye Liner-These eye liners are easy to use and go on smoothly.

*Bobbi Brown Mascara-I bought a Bobbi Brown gift set over Christmas.  To get a fun eye color, if I’m being honest, but I liked the mascara so much that I bought a full size asap.

*MAC Viva Glam II Lipstick-This has been my go-to lipstick for years.  No matter what season this is what I wear.  I’m on a hunt to change it up a bit.  I’ll let you know if it works out. haha!

*Buxom Full-On Lip Polish-I always have one of these in my purse, pocket, or car.

If you guys have any questions, please leave me a comment.  Thank you!!

Join us in May when we talk about our plans for the summer!

Ok, seriously. We are like hair and make up twinsies. I use almost all of the same products, down to the hairdryer 😉 I also LOVE the Moroccan Oil Intense Hair Masque – use that once a week to deep condition. Oh, and you must try Dry Bar's Dry Conditioner! My hair tends to get really dry on day 3 of no washing and this has been a lifesaver. Just kind of smooths it all out and helps it feel softer. Have a great week, girlie!

Does the dry help remove oil? I see it says it does but I want a real opinion :). My hair tends to look greasy if i don't wash it which is such a pain!

They're all a little different but that Batiste brand is almost like spraying baby powder in your hair. It removed the oil ASAP. You should try it.

I never knew what to do with Moroccan Oil!! What a great idea to tame frizzes after straightening!! Thanks for the tip!

Yes! You can also use it on wet hair before blow drying as well.

Do you use the blonde version of the dry shampoo or the original? I have blonde hair and use baby powder as dry shampoo because I like that it lightens my hair on day 3 of not washing-and wondered if the Batiste does the same? Also, do you have to order from Amazon or does say Ulta sell it? Thanks!!!! Love these posts!!!

    • 4.25.16
      Erika Slaughter said:

I use both versions of that dry shampoo. The light version of the Batiste does that. Ulta and even target sells it. 🙂

I've heard so many people swear by Moroccan Oil products, but I think the word "oil" scares me since I have fine hair. Does it leave your hair flat and too silky, or does he give you some volume?

Also, I couldn't live without dry shampoo! My favorite brand is Kenra, you should check it out!

    xo, Kristina

If you have fine hair, then you definitely won't use as much as I do. It still gives me volume but my hair is thick.

Great post with great tips!! You said there was a major teasing phase, do you still tease a little? If not, how do you get the volume?

    • 4.25.16
      Erika Slaughter said:

I tease a little usually only right after I wash/dry/style. Then it stays pretty "big" until it's time to wash again.

Hi Erika! I LOVED this post! Can I ask a few things:

    1. Are you happy ordering the Morroccan products from amazon? sometimes Ive heard name brand lines aren't guaranteed unless buying from a salon or the direct vendor? and if I splurge on those products, I definitely want the real thing!

    2. What shade in the Viva Glam lipstick is your go-to?

    3. Does the Bastise SMELL like baby powder too? BC that would be a no for me, haha!

Also, just a tip: I love the Beauty Blender so much too but just read about the Real Techniques equivalent product (the orange ones) being SO much better and WAY cheaper. I want to try because I'm wondering how anything could be better than the BB?!?!
    Thanks for the help 🙂

I haven't heard that about ordering from Amazon. Sephora might have them?? Nordstrom has some but they're limited. My Viva Glam is Viva Glam II. NO, the Batiste doesn't smell like baby powder. :). I've never heard of that sponge. Where do we try it out?

Your links for the MO go to Amazon. Where do you get your MO products from? I've heard the same thing that it depends where you get them to know if you're getting the real thing.

      Erika Slaughter said:

I get mine from a local hair salon. Sorry, that's no help. 🙂

Hi! I remember awhile back reading that you loved the It's a 10 brand for shampoo and conditioner. Just wondering what made you switch? I started using it and it seriously improved my hair! I do love MO it just costs a bit more. 🙂

      Erika Slaughter said:

Yes! I did use it! After getting a Keratin treatment, my hair stylist recommends using those products with Keratin for a while so once I ran out of those I bought some MO products because I hadn't used them in so long. 🙂

Thanks, Erika for the answers & sorry I missed the Viva Glam II you already specified. Yea, the Real Techniques sponges are on Ulta.com and the other day I was in my local Kohl's dept store and they had them there…! That surprised me. But on Ulta's site, I typed in "real techniques sponge' and 2 options of the little orange guys will pop up…plus there's tons of great reviews to read about it.

Hi Erika! Big fan of your blog. I remember you saying not too long ago that you used to wash your every day because it would be greasy. That's how I currently am, so I am wondering how you made the switch to washing it every few days without getting that 'I just came out of the shower–no wait–that's just grease' look?

    Thanks so much! Kate 🙂

SO this may be a stupid question, but what do you do with your hair on the days you don't wash it when you shower? Shower cap? Just not get it wet? Are you the luckiest person in the world and don't sweat into your hairline when you work out?!?!
