Whew!!! Girls, we are a mess over here at the new house. I’m talking a HOT MESS! I think moving is kind of like having a baby. Right after you deliver you think, “I’m never doing that again”, but then that cute, chubby baby makes you totally forget about all that pain you went through for that sweet little prize. You know what I mean, right? Moving is totally like that. We moved only two years ago and I’m 99% sure my brain had blocked it out. Right this second I completely understand why!! Moving ain’t for the faint of heart. That’s for sure!
We’ve had a couple Griswold moments along the way and I’m sure there will be many more to come. I thought I’d document moving weekend, give you guys a peek into the new place, and show you what we’ve done so far. Here we go…
This was Friday morning (can you tell because I’m still so chipper?). Tab and I made lots of trips hauling things like lamps, pictures, bedding, etc. The movers arrived at 2:30 and we really got to work.
Then this happened. Nixon’s bunk beds are a beast so the movers decided this was the best possible way to get them out of our house. Too bad for us, we still haven’t figured out the best way to get them into the new house. I wish I was kidding.
Our new house was built in 1998. This house had been taken care of well, but we wanted to instantly change some things to make it more “us”. These rooms are being tackled as I type-some in big ways and others just a little.
The day we moved in the floor guys came in and removed all the carpet from the downstairs. We’re replacing the office and living room carpet with hardwoods.
They also removed the kitchen island (it was really small and a weird shape). We want to do a major kitchen renovation, but it’s later down on the priority list. For now the entire downstairs is being painted and the floors are being done.
I have nothing but fabulous things to say about the moving company we used. Local ladies, I’d highly recommend AB Moving in Allen, TX. They got one truck unloaded and then a little summer storm hit. It was raining hard!! Those guys worked quickly in the pouring rain. It took them about six hours to move our entire house (other than the random trips we’d moved). We had six guys and two trucks. By the end of the night, we were all laughing and somehow having a great time (in the middle of moving-that’s HUGE). Seriously…they were great!
I took a quick break while the movers were loading our house to go grab some paint samples. I went around painting these five samples all over our house to catch the different light. Our painter came on Saturday morning and started.
The box with my pajamas and athletic clothes is MIA. I have no clue where it is, so I’ve been getting creative with my outfits. This day I slept in a sports bra and Tab’s athletic shorts. I had to make a run to the old house and I threw on Tab’s huge sweatshirt. I’m telling you….we’re a MESS!!! Think I should include this in my next “What I Wore Wednesday” post? haha!
All weekend long we hung in there with great attitudes, but on Monday-we finally hit our limit where we just wanted to dump anything that was left. You know that limit? When you’re internally fighting about how cute that little orange bucket will be by the front door in the fall, BUT you just want to throw it all in the trash at the same time? We were there.
This is what we’re currently living in….a BIG OL’ MESS!!! I’m keepin’ it real, girls! I’m trying my best to not completely shut down our life and just move. As much as I’d love to do nothing but unpack for the next week that’s just impractical with three kiddos. So…we’re embracing the crazy, taking a break, and heading to the pool today. After our weekend I think we all deserve it!! Just like that sweet baby is worth all the pain, I know this new house will be too. We’re in the trenches now, but looking forward to making some amazing memories in our new place. Thank you for all the sweet comments about the move. I can’t wait to show you our work in progress!!
Also, if you’ve e-mailed me in the last few days, I’m so sorry for the delay! My plan is to do my best and get caught up over the weekend.
Happy Wednesday, Girls!!
From the small glimpse we saw of the house it looks beautiful! Hang in there!!

I agree! You guys aren't wasting any time. Way to go! Definitely deserving of a pool day!
I feel your pain….moving is dreadful! Can't wait to see all the work done! Enjoy your day at the pool today!
I can't wait to share as soon as it's done! Eek! Enjoy your vacation!
You are a superstar. The house looks amazing!!!! Girl, already such an improvement!! 😍
Thanks, friend!!
You're new house is gorgeous! I love it Erika! Give yourself a break, you can only do so much in a day! I cant wait to see the finished product! Good luck!
Thank you!!!
Could you please tell what kind of hardwood floors you have going in now and what was in the house you just moved from? They look great…but the old ones look bigger.
Thanks,
Elizabeth
Our old house had four or six inch wood. This house already had some wood that were matching so we're going with the two or three inch that was here. We are going to resand and restain a little darker. (Probably more like our old house in color). 🙂
We are moving next week and everything you said about moving is so true! We've moved to a new state for the last three summers in a row. I need to get busy packing ASAP. I forsee a similar post in my future 🙂 Thanks for the laughs – especially the isn't that so cute/let's throw everything away part!
You are so cute! Love your attitude. It is definitely like having a baby..haha. We moved a little over a year ago and I still find myself switching things up. We also did a totally kitchen renovation which totally spruced things up! Enjoy your break today! 😊
Ooh I think your doing great. your not sat on the floor rocking and singing… in my head that's a winner!!!
I love moving sick I know lol
but I also loved child birth.. not even kidding labour and delivery were my fav parts.. crazy !! haha
I can't wait for a house tour!
So exciting but so much work…hang in there!!
See, we bought a new house and only two bedrooms needed to be painted. We closed on a thursday, moved several boxes through the weekend and when DJ had football camps, the girls and I would unpack. We painted on a Sunday and had movers come that Tuesday. That's why our move has seemed easier 😉 you're superwoman- getting it all done at once!!!
I'm inviting myself over to check it out this week. Mess or no mess, I'm too excited for yall not to come see 😉 See you in a bit!!!
Moving is going to be the death of me!!!!!!!!!!! We are putting everything in storage and moving to an RV….what was I thinking??? Hopefully the new house goes up quick and once it's done and we move in I"M NEVER MOVING AGAIN!!!! At least I hope I don't have to do it again. LOL
Oh my gosh you are so funny! I was laughing this entire post. Sending you lots of love (and patience) for the next few days!!! xo
Love this post!! Hilarious!! Good Lucks with it all! Wishing you nothing but great times and happy memories in your new home!!
Moving is so exciting but SO much hard work! Looks like you all are really making progress and I can't wait to see the renovations! Good for you for taking a day off today, sounds like you all really deserve it after all that hard work 🙂

So I still can't find my two favorite swimsuits after our move. 🙁 And I absolutely love your house! It's perfect for your family and you will be so glad you put in all the hard work to get there!
We've just moved house too, so I know your pain :). You're doing well though and be kind to yourself too. Hugs from Oz 🙂
Thank you for writing this up for us. I moved not long ago and I thought I was the only one who struggled this much. We even hired a moving company and really tried to box everything up well. Then somehow we open a box labeled kitchen and it is bathroom stuff. I do not know where my head was.

What a funny, fun and rich tale of your move. I really appreciate you sharing it! You are so right that moving is like having a baby, in that the reward of what comes after makes your brain block out what happened during it. It rings true for me, and I have two lovely twins!
