How We…Spring Clean/Organize

Hey Friends!  Happy Wednesday!  It’s good to see you.  🙂

Shay and I are sharing HOW WE WEDNESDAY!  If you’re new to this little slice of the internet, let me explain what this series is.  Once a month, we share HOW WE do something.  Our hope is that you join our link-up and share HOW YOU.  At the end of the day (or year in this case) hopefully, we’ve learned a little bit from each other.

In January, we shared HOW WE…DO GOALS/RESOLUTIONS.

In February, we discussed HOW WE…TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES.

And last month, we talked HOW WE…MOM FAIL.

Today, we’re talking SPRING CLEANING AND STAYING ORGANIZED.  When I read the topic we were discussing this month, I’m pretty sure I LAUGHED OUT LOUD!  Shay had to have added this one to the list.  #nodoubt

If you’ve been reading here a while, then this won’t surprise you…

That is TRUTH right there!!

I’m exaggerating (just a bit).  🙂

There are parts of my life that are crazy organized because I couldn’t function if they weren’t.  For instance, I’m super organized with my work stuff, our meals, this blog of mine, schedules, etc.  But things like closets…now THAT’S another story!

I’ve shared before I have to write things down or I completely forget.  I used to keep EVERYTHING and I do mean EVERYTHING in one planner.  Now, I have a separate work planner and a family planner to keep us all organized.  I also add things to my Google Calendar like a boss.  If my Google Calendar doesn’t tell me to wake my kiddos up for school, I might possibly forget to do it!  I’m telling you…Google Calendar is my BFF.

About a year ago, I shared how I handle three kiddos.  I should totally do some updating on this post now that we have four.  However, the majority of the bullet points still ring true.  My favorite one on that list is, “Give Yourself Grace”.  YYYYEEEESSSS!!!!  When Britt came along, it took me months to figure out how to handle life with four PLUS the laundry.  😉  #workinprogress  Grace was the name of the game, and still is!

When it comes to Spring Cleaning, I’m a SUCKER for a to-do list and Pinterest is FULL of Spring Cleaning lists just waiting to be completed.  I’d highly recommend following a checklist.

OR…

Have you read this book?

If you’re looking for a whole lot of motivation and tips on just how to tidy up and declutter your space, READ THIS!!  This was the kind of book I wanted to put down just so I could begin following Ruth’s tips and declutter my house!

Or this one…

A Simplified Life by Emily Ley

I haven’t finished this one because after reading the chapter about decluttering/organization I went to work!  haha!  This book is GOOD!!  She has GREAT ideas about how to not only simplify your house but your life as well leaving you with a more organized self.

I must tell you I have times where I have it all together and am feeling good about my organization methods and then there are times when I feel like Lucille Ball in Yours, Mine, and Ours…her eyelashes are falling off, her slip is showing, she’s spilling a drink, and is a COMPLETE MESS.  What can I say-it’s A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING over here?  See what I did there, friends? 😉

One thing I’ve learned over the years is this is a CONSTANT task.  It’s not like I decluttered and can check it off the box for a year.  I have to constantly continue to make sure all the spaces are staying organized.  And that leads me to my next question….HOW DO YOU DO THIS??

What tips and tricks can you please share?  Do you have a fabulous way to organize toys?  books?  closets?  etc?

If you joined us, please link-up!  I cannot wait to read all your tips!  And I’m looking forward to next month where we’re talking HOW WE TRANSITION OUR WARDROBES.  🙂

Thanks for stopping by today!

XO

Most of my life is not organized at all! Haha! But, my closet and my kid's closets are almost always organized. I keep one hamper in my closet that has a lid and isn't see-through. If I try something on and it doesn't fit or I realized that I no longer need it, etc., that item goes in the hamper. When it's full, I dump them all in a garbage bag and drop off at good will. I keep two in my kid's closets – one for things they have outgrown and the other for items that I want to keep for sentimental purposes. When they outgrow it, it goes in either box. It's a revolving cycle and I never have to spend an entire day organizing a closet, I just do it as I do laundry.

Hey Erika – don't have any spring cleaning tips, but I just wanted to tell you I appreciate your authenticity on your blog. There are a lot of bloggers out there that are presenting this perfect life on their blog and it just doesn't seem real – not the case with you! Hope your week is fabulous!

What about keeping up with weekly cleaning? Do you do it yourself or hire someone? If you have any schedules for keeping house clean each day I’d live to see them.
