Friday Favorites-7.24.26

Hi Friends!

Happy Friday!

I can’t even believe I’m saying this but school things have begun to kick off around here. Service project, cheer meeting, football meeting and more were all on the calendar this past week. Yesterday when Tab got home from work, we looked at each other and were both like, “UGHHH! We’re tired!”. ha! The good news is we’re gradually getting back into the school spirit so by the time actual school has started we’ll be old pros again. 😉

I’m here with my girl, Andrea, to share some of my FAVORITES from the week. This week I’m sharing five things that are getting me by with these last days of summer!

First up, I’m currently reading Lady Tremaine and it’s REALLY good. Think Cinderella meets Bridgerton. Typically the winter and summer are the two times of year where I get in lots of reading. Lately, I’ve been reading a ton while I wait on kids. Those two who can’t drive have been having all the things. If you find yourself waiting too, try reading this one!

Summer 2026-I’ll forever remember as the summer our family played dominoes…Chicken Foot or Mexican Train? It doesn’t even matter. I grew up in a family playing games often and well, my sweet husband isn’t the biggest fan. He’s turned our kids-I should probably say the boys-into not the biggest game players either BUT this summer something changed. We’ve been playing dominoes and it’s everyone’s FAVORITE game! WHO even knew?!

YOU KNOW I’m watching!! Big Brother is BACK! It’s a FAVORITE show to watch every summer. If you’re watching. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Here are mine…

*I didn’t like Angela’s outburst. I thought she was a changed woman!

*I don’t want Rome to leave because he seems like one of the few that will be able to bust up that big alliance.

*I don’t really have FAVORITES yet other than I think it’s boring to watch a big alliance pick off the rest of the house each week.

*LaLa looks AMAZING! I can’t believe she’s in her 50’s! WHOAAAA!!!

* I was cringing when that dinosaur pushed Rachel into the volcano!! That right there is why new Big Brother watchers immediately quit. ha!

Okay, stay with me for a second on this one…for some strange reason I got this bright idea to start having “State Dinners”. I think what gave me the idea is I was running through the grocery store this week and I spotted a bag of hashbrowns in the shape of the state of Texas. It got me thinking how we could have a Texas-themed dinner. Then that led to me thinking well I could do that with every state. I could just find a recipe that’s special to the state and make that. I’m not talking anything difficult or time consuming but just doing a little something to make an ordinary Tuesday meal a little special. I’m here to report I kicked it off this week AND ended the “State Dinner” program both in the same week. I found a random recipe for white bbq sauce chicken served over bbq beans. I like white bbq sauce but I think it was the way the chicken was cooked? I’m not really sure but no offense to the state of Alabama. I personally know you have great food. I just messed this one up. As we were all shuffling food around our plates, I declared it a terrible idea! Which leads me to…the VIRAL Hot Honey Bowls. We’ve had these multiple times. {I actually prefer to bake actual sweet potatoes.}. We had these for dinner last night and one of my kids said it was a, “FAVORITE”.

I don’t want to jinx anything by even typing this BUT I think my crazy toddler of a puppy is growing into a young dog. What age can I really say that?! He’s understanding verbal cues SO much better than he used to which is my FAVORITE thing he’s doing lately! Please let this be a bit of encouragement to you if you have a puppy…one day he’ll chill out a bit. It’s coming, friends! {I’m mentally prepared for Champ to be extra spazzy tomorrow because of this brag. ha!}

Okay, that’s a wrap on my five FAVORITE things from my week! Happy Weekend, Friends!

I think the state dinners idea is fun, and a cool way to get dinner ideas for something one wouldn’t normally try!

I thought it was too! But when I went to the trouble of making dinner and we all were like, “urgh”, I decided it’s not gonna work this year. You should totally do try it at your house! If I’d have started with something we loved, I’d have kept going.

Things sound busy with all the school things. The schools here have just finished for the summer break.
Oh wow! I haven’t played dominoes in years and our Big Brother isn’t back until later in the year. Hmmf.
The State Dinners sound like a great idea.

WHOAAA!! No, we’ve been out since the end of May. That’s crazy! It’s just gearing back up for all school things here, for sure! We still technically have two more weeks of summer but two more meetings next week for high school athletics. Definitely gearing up!
