Football Weekend in Knoxville

As many of you know my husband, Tab, officiates college football in the fall and this past weekend I tagged along to Knoxville, Tennessee, for the BYU vs. Tennessee football game.

My cousin, Lindsey, and her family live in Knoxville and I’d been trying to get out to visit, see their new house and their sweet little one.  Once we planned the weekend we invited my mom, aunt, and uncle to come over as well.  So, we turned it into a football and family kind of trip!

Tab and I dropped the kiddos off at school and Britty at Shay’s before making our way to the airport.  We arrived in Knoxville ready for some fun!

I got this top right before my trip and thought it was very “fall but still upper 90’s temperatures”.

Knoxville has the CUTEST town!

Tab had meetings and such on Friday night so I hung with the family solo and we headed down to the Market Square area for dinner at Babalu.  It was delish!  I had the best street corn EVER!

I’m so thankful my mom could come over and meet up with us!  Nowadays it’s very rare for us to be together without a kiddo or two…or three…or four.  🙂  It was so nice to get to spend the weekend with her!  And the two on the right-some of my best childhood memories have them in it!  While I’m older than Lindsey we grew up just about 45 minutes away so our moms did a great job getting us together, keeping our family close, and we all have the memories to prove it!

After dinner, Cruze Farm Dairy was on the menu and OH MY GOODNESS!  I had a vanilla cone dipped in peanut butter and it was heavenly!

Selfie as we waited for the ice cream!
We went back to Lindsey’s, watched Big Brother, and chit chatted…the perfect night!

Saturday morning the guys popped over to the hotel to grab Tab.  We did a little shopping and then walked around the Tennessee campus.

The campus was gorgeous!

Just thirty minutes before this picture we were vegging at Lindsey’s, then Tab called to let us know he had sideline passes before the game but we should get there early.  We were like ants scrambling!

We made it!

Lyndon and Tab have been on a crew together for years and he and his family are some of our favorites!

What a GAME!

My shirt is here.

And just like that-we were in our seats and the game was starting.

See that cutie in the background?  😉

Mid-game I enjoyed a Tennessee favorite {or that’s what I heard}…Petro’s.  It was yummy!  Frito’s, chili, cheese, onions, jalapenos, sour cream, and black olives.

The game ended in OVERTIME!

Tab and I had a great little 48 hour getaway!  Knoxville and the University of Tennessee campus were both gorgeous!  We had the best time getting to hang with my family for a bit.  And these four had a great weekend with Patrick and Mackenzie while we were gone…

They went to our local high school football game, made it to all the sports and practices, swam, Urban Aired and had SO MUCH FUN!

The last time we’d gotten to see them was this!

Needless to say, our kiddos had a BLAST!  And are ready for us to leave again ASAP!

XO

I live in Knoxville! Hate that I didn't know you were here! I think Petro's originated at the World's Fair in Knoxville in 1982. Love them!

Have you seen the story going around about the Florida boy who loved UT, but didn't have a shirt to wear for fave team day, so he made one? If not, please look it up. I'm not a Tenn fan (KY here), but they really stepped up! And Knoxville looks beautiful!

Read you blog all the time and my son is a student assistant coach at UT and it bummed us out! But, I love my Vols and season ticket holders for over 30 years. Can you see now why they're the top college that there is no "freshman 15", it's hard to gain weight with all the hills on that campus. I would love to ask Tab how come there was no flag when the player threw our QB's shoe over to the sideline….LOL – I just knew that would have to be an infraction (maybe just bad manners). But, Knoxville is a great city and everyone is just so friendly.

Knoxville! I attended 4 years of college at UT and have had football season passes since I was 4 years old! Neyland Stadium might be my favorite place on earth! So glad you got to experience a little bit of East Tennessee! Come back in about a month- the fall leaves are GORGEOUS!

Melanie-be looking for the blog on Friday! YES! I heard all about it, my heart exploded, and it's a FAVORITE from the week. 🙂

Cindy-I'd be lying if I said I didn't ask the same question. And I also followed it up with a "as a mom, he should have been disciplined" type of sentence.

It was so fun following your Instagram stories all weekend and knowing you were in our town! I am partial but East Tennessee is the best place with the friendliest people. We were heartbroken by the result of the game but it was fun recognizing Tab on the screen! Hope you can come back again sometime!

I'm so jealous that you got to be at that game! I love in Georgia, but BYU is my alma mater. I was hoping to drive up to Tennessee for the game, but it just didn't work out. We were screaming at the screen during the OTs!!! We were so excited to see BYU pull out a win. ☺️
