Britt Update-Post Adoption-20 Months

The last time I shared a little adoption update was back in November and it was actually a little more of what I was feeling rather than how things were going.  {You can read that post here.}

It’s been TWENTY MONTHS since we got our girly and a lot has changed in the last few months.

 Britt is still going to speech therapy twice a week.  {If you are local and are looking for a speech therapist who specializes in CL or CP, e-mail me!  Ours is amazing!}  Her speech has really taken off.  She’s constantly saying multiple word phrases like, “I don’t know”, “Why, Mama”, “Where are you?”.  Just last week she sang, “Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Hey, Hey, Hey, Goodbye”.  I wish I had been recording the rest of our faces, because we were stunned!  We didn’t know she knew that song!  Then {bless her heart} we asked her approximately 5, 327 times to sing it again.  πŸ™‚  We have a TON of work to do in the articulation department now that she’s using all the words but the progress has been SO good lately.  And we really can understand what she says most of the time.  Can other people understand her?  Hmmm…the verdict is still out, but thankfully, the five of us speak Britty.

 I’m afraid I’m gonna jinx all the progress we made yesterday, but I’m gonna say it anyway.  When she woke up from her nap yesterday, I put her in big girl panties and she ROCKED the big girl panties!  She pottied SEVEN times in her little potty and only had one accident before bedtime.  Again, today when she’s in panties it could be a nightmare but I’m hoping the progress just keeps coming!

 I’ve said before that we tend to treat her like a kiddo younger than three because she’s so little, but I’m really trying to work on it.  For instance, Nixon was playing tee-ball at three and it had never crossed my mind to sign her up for an activity because she seems too little.  Last week she accompanied me to pick up Ebby Lee from dance and she was dancing like a crazy lady in the hallway.  If she can get past the “mom’s in the hallway while I’m in the classroom”, then I think she’ll absolutely LOVE it.  We’re attempting dance later this week…I’ll keep you posted.  πŸ˜‰

She LOVES the big kids so very much.  Last week, Ebby Lee and Kensington were upstairs playing and baby Britt would have chosen to hang with mom but three-year-old Britt wanted to be right up in the middle of whatever they were playing.  {Much to Ebby Lee’s disappointment-ha!  #littlesister}

But again, another little shift in growing up.  πŸ™‚

Some of her favorites at the moment-

*Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
*Peppa Pig
*Cheese {always been a favorite}
*Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

Santa brought Britt this roller coaster for Christmas and she can do it all by herself.  She pushes the cart up to the top, climbs in, and pushes herself off.

We did a little shoe shopping this past weekend and she’s officially hit the stage where she has an opinion.  She was a big fan of the pink boots and she let me know it.  πŸ™‚

She’s SUPER expressive and always making crazy faces.  This girl brings so much joy into our lives.  And I’m so very thankful God chose me to be her mama.

If God is placing adoption on your heart, I pray you’ll act on it.  Your very own Britty could be waiting for YOU right now.  Adoption is the very best decision we’ve ever made.  I’m not gonna lie…at times it was so scary.

I was just looking at my kiddos playing the other day and almost started crying thinking about-

*How we didn’t even know we were missing such a big piece of our family.  We thought we were “complete”, but I’m so glad God had other plans.  What a great God he is!

*That all those fears I had about adoption were things I shouldn’t have even been worried about.

*Just how thankful I am she’s mine.

I’m not a very emotional person when it comes to breaking into tears at any minute {my girlfriends can attest to this} but adoption is something that breaks me.  It’s absolutely amazing, friends!

    My husband and I have 6 biological children. We are in the process of trying to adopt 2 siblings domestically. Such a long process. Love reading this! We are hoping and praying to be matched soon with kids that need us and that will fit in with our crew.
