Happy Happy Wednesday!
The Slaughter crew enjoyed our summer family vacation to Amelia Island, Florida, last week. Tab had visited in college and had been telling me for years he thought it was a destination we’d enjoy. It’s an Atlantic coastal town just a quick drive from Jacksonville, Florida. We left bright and early on Monday morning to enjoy six sunny days with the family.

Ebby Lee and Britt bumped into our pilot in line at Starbucks and he told them then he’d let Britt come up to the cock pit. Super nice of him!
One quick flight from Dallas to Jacksonville, Florida, and a quick thirty-five minute drive…

to Amelia Island! Tab was apparently wanting space when he booked our hotel stay. He snagged us three rooms so we had a girl room, a boy room, and then Tab/I had a suite where the family could all hang. It was absolutely perfection!

We arrived, quickly got changed and headed straight to the beach!

The beach was gorgeous!

And our rooms were too! A couple nights we ended up here after dinner. I packed some cards and we played a few rounds before everyone went to their own rooms for bed.

The extra-large patio was fun!

We spent as much time as possible at the beach before we came in to shower and get just a little freshened up for a casual night out to dinner. I made us reservations for every other night at nice dinner locations. The other nights we did something more casual.

Night number one this was my look. Washing and drying my hair every night at the beach is one of my least favorite things so I just did it every other night.

Girl selfie in the elevator!

We strolled around Downtown Fernandina Beach while waiting for our table to be ready.

We popped into many little stores while we waited.

This is the ONLY picture I took at dinner but let me tell you…that pretzel was DELISH!

We had dinner at The Salty Pelican and I’m pretty sure it’s one of the most touristy locations in town. The food was “meh” but…

the sunset views across the street were absolutely incredible!

And someone put up three crosses. Gorgeous!

Our second day began with the boys throwing the football. We had lots of beach/pool time before…

Dinner OUT! Two Slaughter girls ALL dressed up and ready for dinner at Lagniappe.

Just a small example of some of the deliciousness at Lagniappe. It was a crawfish etouffee on top of a catfish sitting on a bed of dirty rice. Friends, it was INCREDIBLE!

Dressed up or dressed down the chats at dinner might have been my favorite parts of this vacation.

Making the best memories!

Wednesday morning these two headed out to the golf course for a round of golf. The rest of the day was spent at the beach/pool. Then it got a bit cloudy outside so we headed to…

MINIATURE GOLF!
We’re a super competitive family. WHY have we not been playing this weekly?! We had an absolute BLAST! It kind of started raining on us but we were all SO into the game we just kept going.

Might not be able to tell from the smiles but it got intense for a bit.

Proof that Mom snagged 3rd place!

By the time we were finished with miniature golf, it was kind of late and kind of rainy so we hopped into the nearest Mexican restaurant. What’s that saying?…You can take the Slaughters out of Texas but you can’t take the Texas out of them?! ha! 1/2 of the kids asked every night for the rest of the trip to go back to Don Patron’s for this same meal again. Don knows a thing or two about his food.
And that’s a wrap on the first half of the vacation!
Thanks so much for reading today!
