I’ve been changing up my normal “What I Wore Wednesday” posts. The last few weeks I posted “What I’d Wear to Football Games”. (If I missed your team, no worries. I have a couple requests I’ll be getting to later this month.)
Like I said, a few of you requested your team that wasn’t in one of those conferences. Don’t worry! I’m taking a little football break and then I’ll hit those requested teams! I promise!
I don’t know about you guys, but I LOVE family pictures! I love choosing the coordinating outfits we’ll all be wearing. (I should add here that every year I think I get a little braver with our wardrobe.) I love deciding on a location. I love it all!! I’ve seen a TON of pins on Pinterest lately for “What to Wear in Family Photos”. I’m not an expert by far! But..I do really enjoy this so I thought I’d share how I decide what the Slaughters will be wearing every year in our fall family pictures.
With only one girl in the family, I tend to ALWAYS start with Ebby Lee’s outfit. I feel like a little girl can bring the party in a family picture. Don’t you agree? I start with her and then base the rest of our outfits around hers. I will say that I LOVE mixing patterns. In the picture above, both little boys are wearing plaids (different plaids) and then Tab and I brought out a few more colors.
Another thing I love to do (mostly applies to fall/winter) is LAYER!! There is totally a reason those mannequins in stores are wearing 14 different layers. Layers make everything better! For fall pictures…we’ll layer, layer, layer. Maybe that means adding a scarf, a jacket, or a vest. Choose whatever works for you and is your style!
I threw this into the post, because I mean…how cute was she?? I can’t even remember baby Ebby Lee ever being so little!!
See what I mean…last year I got a little braver! ha! When Narci sent me these edited pictures, I remember Tab and I were in Hawaii for his football game. We passed the phone around the table so all his crew mates could see. Tab’s closest friend on his crew last year pointed out that we had all the prints going on in that picture. I remember laughing about it and also being impressed that a guy even noticed it! haha! I think I liked our clothes even more last year because there was a lot going on, but that tends to sum up our life with three kids. Don’t you think? haha!
I thought I’d share with you “What We’d Wear in a Family Picture”….
Ebby Lee:
Ebby Lee:
I’d start with Ebby Lee and choose a bright dress with lots of color like this one.
This dress already has a “layered look”, so I’d skip a jacket or vest. I would pair it with some fun boots.
These boots would give that dress the perfect amount of sass for the pictures. 🙂
Nixon:
Then…I’d move onto the boys. For Nixon, these Gap cords would be great.
I’d pair this shirt under the plaid shirt and button it, but leave just a bit of the green for an added layer. 🙂
This is the shirt Nixon is actually wearing in our pictures AND it’s on sale now!
My boys have the WIDEST feet on the planet, so these shoes would never end up in our family photo! haha! But…I LOVE the idea of one or two boys wearing a pair of Converse.
Bowen:
Bowen has these exact jeans and they are the cutest thing ever on him.
This purple gingham shirt from J.Crew Factory would be great for Bowen.
And…I love this puffer vest from Gap (Bowen has this for our pictures too!).
I’d put one of the boys in these Sperrys.
Erika:
I love these eggplant Vigoss coated skinny jeans. They’re on MAJOR sale, but there are just a few random sizes left. 🙁
I think this purple tank would highlight Ebby Lee’s dress!
This cardigan would look great as well!
I’d add lots of jewelry AND these leopard booties to give my outfit the perfect amount of sass. 🙂
Tab:
To bring out more of the green, I’d put Tab in this navy/green shirt from J.Crew Factory. All my boys are big fans of J.Crew Factory button-up shirts.
Paired with some dark jeans.
I’d have Tab throw this jacket on over his button-up for another layer. 🙂
This was all fun and games until I had to search for some shoes for Tab! hahaha! Normally his go-to shoes are his Sperry’s or cowboy boots. I had a HARD time choosing cowboy boots, so I’m opting for the boat shoes. 🙂
AND…guess what’s on sale?? The Manda Strong SHIRTS!!! Go HERE to check out the shirts. All proceeds go to benefit Manda’s family. The shirts come in heather grey and navy. Kids’ sizes are available in navy only.
If you missed the post about my sweet friend, Manda, you can read it HERE. Also…thank you SO much for praying, donating, and loving on Manda. You guys are the BEST and I’m SO thankful for each and every one of you.
Hope you guys have a GREAT Wednesday!!
You are so good at pulling together outfits!! I love seeing what you guys are dressed in! Can't wait for this year!! 🙂
Excited about this years pics!!
Wow!! Love these ideas
Thank you!!!
I love the ruffled purple tank! The link seems to be going to the eggplant jeans. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!
Emily…I fixed it! So sorry! I'm not sure what happened! Thanks for letting me know!
I love the suggestions! We have our family pictures coming up soon. I always start with my outfit since I am the only girl in the house. I think it's easiest to start with me and my husband is so much more difficult than my boys!
I agree!! And girls can get away with so much more colors/patterns!! I feel like my hubby tends to wear the same thing just different color in pics. (Like the shoes). Ha!
Always love seeing photos of your sweet adorable family!!!!!
Thanks Kimm!! 🙂
Your family is so cute! This inspires me to go pick out our outfits for Fall pics this year. Do you remember where you got the turquoise flowy top in your Downtown pics as well as the striped shirt in your Manda Strong picture? So cute! And I'm going to order a #mandastrong shirt…my heart breaks for her and her family. Praying for healing and strength for her husband!
Where is your striped shirt in your Manda Strong picture? You're too cute:)
I got it from a boutique in town. We're partnering together to do a couple things online soon!!! Thank you!!
I always LOVE.LOVE.LOVE. your family pics!! You do a great job coordinating without being matchy matchy!!
Thanks Holly!!
what's the name of the boutique? I would like to order the shirt.
Thanks for your great recommendations! I ended up buying the dress for my daughter and the checked button down for my son. I need to piece together my outfit and my husband's. Love your style!
