In March, we all shared some gifting ideas…think baby shower, new baby at home, wedding shower, etc.
Today, I’m hoping you have the BEST IDEAS for me. Do you guys remember how much I LOVED Gilmore Girls? I watched Parenthood and One Tree Hill and could not get through them fast enough! Then I was such a fan of Gossip Girl. I even watched Hart of Dixie because same girly, teenage genre.
These shows are all the type I can watch on my phone while I’m putting away laundry, picking up around the house, or sneaking in a few minutes of me-time before bed. They’re the kind of show I can miss a couple minutes of and still know what’s happening. Know what I mean? And 90% of these shows are rated G, so if a kiddo popped in, there was no problem!
I’m looking for something similar to binge watch this fall.
PLEASE let me know if you have any great recommendations. I watched one episode of Pretty Little Liars and am thinking that might be what I’m looking for? Have you guys seen it? I’d love to hear any of your recommendations and have no doubts others reading would enjoy them too.
Thanks in advance!
XO
Try Drop Dead Diva….it's so cheeky and campy, but fun and interesting at the same time. And you can walk away or even skip (or sleep through) an episode and not miss a whole lot. 🙂
Pretty Little Liars is a favorite of mine, but WARNING : it gets pretty racy and it wouldn’t be kiddo appropriate 😉 but it’s addicting and very good!
All of the shows you named are some of my favorites! Gilmore Girls and Hart of Dixie in particular are my all time!
I watched Pretty Little Liars from when it started (2010) to when it ended. It's something that lost me along the way but I kept up with it. It's very "mysterious" and while I liked it, there were things that were completely unrealistic (like how many trials and tribulations can the same person go through??) that I couldn't get over.
I would say watch it because if anything else it's entertaining but it's darker than the other shows you mentioned! 🙂
LOVED Pretty Little Liars! However it is a show you really need to "pay attention" too! I recommend watching it when you can really watch it!!!!
I suggest New Girl… it tends to be pretty PG. The episodes are only 30 mins so you don’t have to be as invested as a full hour episode and the cast and show are hilarious, quirky, and lighthearted.
I'll be coming back for all the suggestions!
These are my favorite shows! I'm half tempted just to watch GG again. It's so FALL! You should watch Hallmark movies now 😉 .
Pretty Little Liars is addicting! But can be downright scary, and you won’t want kids popping in. But still watch it, it’s so good!
Pretty LIttle Liars was great . . . for like the first four seasons. I think I watched the first episode of season 5 and then gave up because it was getting a little far fetched for me. Definitely worth it for the first few seasons, though. However, I would say it's the least kid friendly of any of the shows you've mentioned! I"m a huge fan of Veronica Mars. It's like ten years old, but still super awesome. I don't think it's currently streaming anywhere, but keep it in the back of your mind in case it ever pops up on Netflix or something like that.
Have you watched Friday Night Lights? I would recommend that before Pretty Little Liars! PLL just lost me a few seasons in. As someone above said, it just gets too crazy and out of the box.
Pretty Little Liars is fun—I think I finished season 1 and got derailed after that! Totally need to pick that back up! Rob and I are about to start Ozark! I’ve heard it’s fantastic.
Cheesy feel good—Heartland and Good Witch
Pretty Little Liars was good the first few seasons then it got a bit ridiculous. Some shows just need to call it quits after a while and this is one of them. Probably the last 2 or 3 seasons I gave up on.
Not PG, but the new Jack Ryan series on Prime is AWESOME! The first 1/2 of episode 1 was hard to get in to — but then I was HOOKED.
Vampire Diaries is amazing!!! I swear you’re probably thinking it’s going to be just like Twilihht but it’s not. It’s the teen drama I live for! Just watch the first episodes and you’ll see :).
So I like the same shows (and my husband totally makes fun of me for it)…..but Pretty Little Liars yes!! And also, The OC, Dawsons Creek (I think both are on Hulu). Melrose Place and 90210!
I have watched all of those shows and loved them, especially Gilmore Girls and Hart of Dixie. Right now I am watching Heartland and it's very cute and definitely rated G.
I am rewatching gilmore girls again this fall. I started on September 1st. I haven't watched it yet, but I'm interested in watching fresh off the boat. I watched pretty little liars, and I would agree with other readers you need to be paying attention and its not exactly kid friendly. But I really liked it and tuned in weekly when it was on. I seem to have similar taste in shows as you, so I am interested in what you watch next.
Please tell me you are watching 'This is Us!?' It's the new Parenthood and it is absolutely amazing. You will love it!
Heartland
Have you ever watched Dawson’s Creek?? It’s such a good show and definitely one you can have playing in the background 🙂 it’s cheesy at times but it’s another one that reminds me of Fall!
I am loving the show Younger right now. I've watched so many of those 'girly' shows. Hart of Dixie, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars (lol), and other less girly… Friday Night Lights, Parenthood, This is Us. So good. I'm loving Younger. You'll have to also try Suits. It's great.
Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon! Also, if you aren't on the "This us Us" train yet… get on!
If you are wanting something on Netflix that you can binge watch try either Party of Five (a 90's teen drama, kindof) or Heartland (it is totally okay to watch with kids in the room, very clean but so good!) Those are 2 shows that most people don't know about on Netflix but are both some of my favorites.
Younger! Also, Young and Hungry on Netflix.
I'm almost done with Pretty Little Liars and have enjoyed it. But my newest obsession is Heartland! The first season isn't that great but it picks up in Season 2 and by 3, you'll be hooked. Its totally kid appropriate and my girls and i love it! You should watch it with Ebby Lee 🙂
Loved all of these shows! Heartland is amazing, Chesapeake Shores on Hallmark is pretty good, Party of Five is an oldie but a goodie, Friday Night Lights is always a go-to. It's a little darker but The Vampire Diaries is really good as well!
You can't go wrong with Pretty Little Liars!! I watched every season/episode as they aired. Such a good show! They are creating a spin off now too! Have you ever watched Dawson's Creek? I loved that one too! The OC was good too! Have you ever watched Glee? I started it right as it was ending and loved it so much that I went back and watched the whole series! All of these are shows that if kiddos walk in you don't have to rush to change it 🙂
I've got Heartland on my list to watch and lasted a few season of Pretty Little Liars when it was on TV. But I always suggest Parks and Rec to anyone when they ask for a Netflix show to binge watch. I am not a fan of The Office so I wasn't sure about Parks and Rec but it is hilarious and fun and puts you in a good mood. I love every single character on that show and have rewatched the entire series almost three full times now.
That Inspired Chick
Pretty Little Liars requires a decent amount of attention, they like to throw in characters you haven't seen in ages. Also not kiddo appropriate at all! I think you would love Dawson's Creek! It's in the same vein as all your other favorites. I've also had Brothers & Sisters recommended to me (since I loved Parenthood & Gilmore Girls). Riverdale is good but leans closer to PLL where it requires more attention / is kind of dark and not kiddo appropriate. Younger is a fund one too!
I have never seen Parenthood, but loved all of the other ones you mentioned and have watched PLL also (agree that you need to pay attention) 🙂 The OC, Dawson's Creek, Revenge, 90210 (the older one) and Party of Five are all great too – some you need to focus more than others 🙂 And The Good Wife is amazing (although that is one you have to pay attention to). On the lighter side, Friends and The Big Bang Theory are also great!
I just binged The Bold Type this summer. Only 2 episodes so far, but is really good! It's about 3 20something girls who live in New York and write for a big magazine similar to Cosmo. But their friendship is the sweetest and the fashion is awesome! 🙂 It's a Freeform show so its available On Demand, or I watched it on Hulu. Younger is really good and fun too!!!
Suits is AMAZING. It's not a cheesy, girly type of show…but it has eight seasons and is SO SO SO good. I usually am not drawn to a show about NYC lawyers, but the story lines are incredible and it has Meghan Markle (married Prince Harry) through season seven. It is on Amazon Prime. I am currently watching Anne with an E on Netflix. Really cute show.
Well you know my show recommendation! It’s all I talk about but not sure if it fits your wishlist for a show. lol. It’s sooooogood though.
Gilmore Girls is my GO TO feel good series!! Especially seasons 1-4! Perfect for fall 🙂
The OC and 90210 for sure if you loved GG and OTH. New Girl is great to have on for background noise. Pretty Little Liars is good in the first few seasons, but then it's just too much to follow. Too far fetched and too many story lines going on at the same time.
From the shows you mentioned, I think would love PLL and Jane the Virgin and def Younger!
Please watch Young and Hungry on Netflix. It's shorter episodes, and funny, and cute! You'll love it!
Not PG and something you have to pay attention to but the Jack Ryan series on Amazon Prime is amazing but you have to focus. I like all the other things you have watched so I bet you would like this. As far as PG, I would say Friday Night Lights or maybe Upstairs Downstairs?????
Not kid appropriate but loved Jack Ryan and 13 Reasons Why.
You should watch Atypical! It's super cute and very funny!
Veronica Mars, Schitt's Creek, Take Two (new show w/Rachel Bilson), Superstore
You like all the same shows as I do. 🙂 You should totally share a post with everyone's suggestions, because I am ready for a new series just like these.
Heartland on Netflix! Definitely rated G but it has a great story.
All of those shows a re my top fav watch again shows! I love Pretty Little Liars as well.. towards the end it gets a little creepy and less teenagery (now a word) but still good! I also LOVE Grey’s Anatomy. A must watch, I do say so myself.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime is fantastic. It is created by Amy Sherman Paladino from Gilmore Girls. There is some language though, so just beware if the kids are around. I have also really liked USA shows especially White Collar and Psych.
Loved Pretty little liars…but you may not want the kids popping in! 🙈
Is it bad that I’ve watched almost all of the shows that have been recommended (and also the shows you have watched) lol. One show that hasn’t been mentioned is White Collar, it’s really good. I’m really strict on what my kids watch so there aren’t many shows I will watch when they are around. I loved Heartland and it was a show I didn’t worry about my kids walking in on. It also has a lot of seasons so it’ll keep you entertained for a while. Drop dead diva was cute, also pretty clean. Young and hungry is pretty good but has more adult humor. Party of five was good but not one I watched when my kids were up. Friday Night Lights was really good (didn’t watch when kids were up). Jane the Virgin is entertaining (didn’t watch when kids were up). New Girl has a lot of adult humor- it’s different than the other shows listed. I liked it but it wasn’t my favorite. Parenthood is good, more drama filled (like party of five). I watched Vampire Diaries religiously but it got a little crazy for me so I stopped watching (not a kid show). Suits is really good (not something I watched when kids were up).
I tried PLL and just couldn’t get into it.
Have you watched This Is Us? Best show ever!! I loved Parenthood and Gilmore Girls too. I think you'd like it! New season starts on 9/25 and past seasons are on Hulu.
I loved Jane the Virgin. Goodwitch is also good. Atypical is good. I also agree with Veronica Mars if you can find it. Have you gone through the Good Wife and Glee? Certainly not kid friendly of course. I enjoy watching g old episodes of Frasier and Friends.
We have the same taste in shows! You should definitely watch Younger! So so good and the episodes are quick.
90210, Grey's Anatomy, Atypical or The Good Doctor are great!!
Heartland is one of the best shows. Your whole family can watch it. I feel in love with the family and the scenery in Canada. Pretty Little Liars is good, but it gets dark and there are so many twists and turns that you have to pay attention or you you may miss something. Younger and The Bold Type are fun shows but not kid friendly. Just great girly shows. I think these are on Hulu.
My favorite shows were one tree hill and gossip girl until I watched pretty little Lora. It's sooo good!! U have to watch! Jane the virgin is also really good!
Suits is great, I just finished season 7 last night! It's not too racy except for the language at times but overall great show! Parks and rec is so hilarious it's a great one to binge also!
I just started watching Chesapeake Shores and it reminds me a little bit of Parenthood with the family fee. Hallmark series so good to go if kiddos walk in 🙂 – Sarah
I watched and enjoyed Pretty Little Liars all the way up to the last season. Then I just quit. I would still recommend it. Another show that I totally enjoyed ( and didn't have to pay constant attention to in order to understand) is Royal Pains. Loved to see the beautiful Hamptons in the background scenery!
I don't really watch much. I am more of a movie person. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful rest of the week.
Friday Night Lights was the best! I was so sad when the series concluded. Lost in Space was good for the whole family. Not kid friendly but awesome were the marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Ozark and Jack Ryan. We just started The Americans…it’s pretty good so far…great 80’s references
I haven't seen any of these. I did start watching Peaky Blinders from the start and got about 2 series in. It's really good so I'll have to pick it up before the next series in 2019. The costumes are amazing!
