Texas State Fair

This past weekend was a little football game you might have heard of…the Red River Showdown… between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas that takes place every year at the Cotton Bowl in the middle of the State Fair.  I’d already made plans to be out of town on Friday night, but my parents decided to come into town to experience all the fun.  My step-dad and the boys headed to the game bright and early on Saturday morning.

Did I happen to mention our VERY FAVORITE umpire was officiating the football game?  😉

This time before the game was probably their favorite of the whole day.

Does anyone recognize this guy in the black?

Can you tell they were just a tad bit excited?

These guys even bumped into Maria Taylor from ESPN’s Game Day!
*During the game, Shay and I got back to McKinney.  I stopped by my house to grab all the girls and we made our way to the fair ASAP.*

After the game, these boys were in football heaven.  They high-fived the Sooner mascot and then…

The Longhorns’ football team.  🙂

Someone asked me recently what I loved so much about the fair and my response was EVERYTHING…the people, the food, the rides, the exhibits, the animals, the lights…I could go on and on.

I was so rushed when I stopped by the house I forgot to grab Britt’s stroller.  In case you were wondering…
Strollers are available to rent at the fair near each gate.   #notanad  #justwantedtoshare
We popped our head in to check out this X-Treme Sport Show.  They chose Bowen to go up to help and he flipped out and turned into his mother.  haha!  Apparently, he doesn’t do public speaking either.  #orevenpublicappearances

Did you know in the middle of the fair you can spot guys surfing?
#nowyouknow

Tab and I were hungry so we made a beeline over to our very favorite fair food, Catfish Floyd’s.

The catfish, the hush puppies, the spicy tartar sauce…it’s ALL so good!

Of course we hit up the rides…the big kids rode one and then Britt started saying, “Me?” while pointing to herself.  #herturn

We love the fair!

Have I mentioned the only thing I’m NOT a fan of when it comes to the fair is a crazy hot day and that’s exactly what we had on Saturday.  We were all sweaty messes making our way around.

At this point in the day, we were so hot-the Log Flume seemed like a great idea.  Until we were walking around with wet shoes.

Please note Britt’s little hand waving.

This spot used to house a wide variety of animals you could feed, pet, and gawk at through the fence, but now it’s a birthing center.  We saw animals who’d been born just hours before.

We popped into the dog show, where it felt like the surface of the sun.  No air was circulating.  haha!

The kiddos didn’t seem to mind.  They were impressed with this dog’s skills.

Slaughter Six having a good ole time.

Instead of waiting to observe the parade, we walked past all the floats lining up.

The floats were looking GOOD!

Do you see that guy dressed in all silver?

Then it was Haunted House time!  I’m not gonna mention any names but someone near me had his eyes closed the entire time!

This girl is so easy-going!  She watched, she rode, she ate…she had a good time!

She wanted to take part in this game.

Check out her skills.  🙂

We kept these grandparents busy all day!

We both look sleepy in this picture…that’s what hours at the fair will do to you.

There was a small roller coaster {some people in my family might have referred to as a ‘baby coaster’} Bowen refused to ride but he had no issues with this one.

These crazies rode the Crazy Mouse.

What is it about a fun house that is so tempting?

Monkeying Around the Fair

 Fair 2018 didn’t disappoint!

I mean.  Be still my heart.  This girl was a FAN of the swings.

The big kiddos were on the big swings while we watched.

At this point, the boys who’d been up since 6:00 a.m. started melting down AND it started sprinkling on us.

We took one more quick picture because this girl LOVES New York before heading to our car.

Making Memories…XO

Oh my gosh! It looks like y’all had the best time! Our first fair experience and game day was ruined because I got sick! 😫 we got up Saturday morning and drove back to Austin and I watched the game from my couch. But, DJ said he was able to see Tab!

HOOK ‘EMMMMM!! What a fun game for your guys to see live!! I haven’t been to the game since I was in college, but I’d love to take my kids some day. It’s just so crowded! We actually pulled our kids out of school and went earlier this week. We wore our burnt orange but avoided the chaos ;).

Love the photos! Brings back some wonderful memories for me. It was always a dream for this New Jersey girl to go to the State Fair of TX. One year my hubby surprised me with a trip. I am also a Cowboys fan and we toured the stadium. One of my all time favorite trips. I think I was born in the wrong state HAH Thank you for sharing your precious family.
