Soup, Boys, and Our Weekend

I had the BEST French Onion Soup.  The perfect little treat on a SUPER cold day!  I met Marla for lunch and she suggested this place for the soup.  After one bite, I understood why!

This guy is growing up.  It breaks my heart a little bit, but he has a killer vocabulary and can be pretty hysterical!  His latest response when you ask him to do something is, “Of course I can”.  Where did he learn that??

I asked Nixon to bring in this huge package.  I turned around to check on him and saw this.  He got the package in by pushing it on his hands and knees.  He was laughing the whole time.

This past weekend we traveled to Arkansas for a funeral.  A sad occasion, but it turned out to be a weekend full of celebrating a wonderful woman’s life with some fabulous people.  This was us on the way to Arkansas and then this happened….

We RAN OUT OF GAS!!!  At mile marker 59…in the middle of nowhere!  We were 6.4 miles away from the closest gas station.  Could have been SO MUCH WORSE!  Tab called Roadside Assistance and they could be there in 45 minutes.  I had the bright idea to call the closest gas station and offer up $100 to anyone who’d bring us some gas.  I thought it’d be so much faster.  I know in the little town I grew up in there were always people hanging out at the gas station.  It worked!!  Some guy agreed to come bail us out.  Tab cancelled the Roadside Assistance and we waited.  And waited.  Finally, the guy showed up (almost 45 minutes later).  He had gone the wrong way!

Our hotel had an indoor pool so Saturday morning our kiddos were ready to swim at 8:15!  Bowen and I did a lot of watching.  He slowly made his way into the water.  #chillinattheholidayinn

They spent over two hours swimming HARD!

Bowen finally decided he wanted to take part in the fun.

And then this happened…
We got all cleaned up ready for the funeral and made a quick pit stop for lunch on the way.  Bowen slept through the entire thing.  Bless his heart!

We made the trip back yesterday and are ready for the week!  Hope you had a good weekend!

Better late than never…Andrea and I are doing another Photo Challenge.  Follow along with us and join in the fun.  On Instagram we’re “slaughteren” and “andrea2220”.

Hi Erika. As Kimm said, sorry for your loss. I am glad you had a safe albeit adventurous trip to and from Arkansas. I am paranoid about running out of gas. I often fill the tank when it's one-third left to go. Have a great day.
