Whoop!! Whoop!! It’s time for another “Owning It” post! I love love love these posts. And from what I hear you ladies do as well. Today is going to be fun! My bloggy friend, Rachel from Floral and Fudge, is here sharing her crazy and Owning It!! Rachel is a wife and mama to two, and she blogs everything from DIYs to fashion to life with her sweet little family. I’m so excited about Rachel being here and can’t wait to hear her crazy!
I’m Rachel. I blog at Floral and Fudge. I have had SUCH a good time reading this series of Erika’s, and I dug deep (not that deep) to find some crazy about me to share!
1. I have crazy-good memory for people. I can remember the names of just about anyone I’ve ever had a conversation with. I remember the birthdays of kids I went to elementary school with. I enjoy finding connections between people, like when I told my husband Steve that his co-worker’s wife knew his mother’s second cousin once-removed. Who knew? They’re glad they have me around to tell them these things 🙂 I would call myself a human Rolodex, but people don’t have those anymore.
2. I lock everything. Growing up in Chicago, we double and triple locked everything. Now I live in small-town Pennsylvania, and it’s common for people to leave their houses and cars unlocked, but I just can’t do it! My husband used to leave his car door unlocked until I educated him about the dangers of how many people could potentially break in and steal his collection of empty Mountain Dew cans from the back seat. I make sure to take everything out of the car that might be of any value. I won’t go into a store until I hear the car horn beep when I push the little lock button on my keys. I also have honey-do list for Steve to get some more locks put on our doors and windows at home!
Rachel-I grew up in the country and my parents always locked their house, but “hid” their key. I’m using that word super loosely because everyone in our town knew where the hidden key was. I always thought hiding it was pointless. ha! But living where we live now, I am CRAZY about locking everything. I totally understand!

3. I have a deathly fear of bats. Two years ago, we moved into our beautiful, full-of-character 1920 home. I has wood floors. It has spacious rooms. It has windows that let in lots of natural sunlight . . . and it has bats. Lots of bats. A family? A colony?! I don’t know. What I do know, is that three have flown into our living area on separate occasions. As I flipped out and tried to save the children, Steve came to the rescue each time to remove the bats. The last one flew into our bedroom, right as we were about to turn off the light. I threw the sheet over my head, and Steve raced out of the room in hot pursuit. After a thirty-minute stand-off, he trapped the bat between a tennis racquet and a Cool-Whip container and tossed all three out of the window! 🙂 I have heard the bats chirping in the walls in nearly every room of the house. We haven’t seen one in a while now, but I spent months bracing myself in case a bat would meet me when I entered a dark room. I called the Orkin man, but his quote was much too high, so we go on co-habitating.
4. I dislike showering. Ever since having kids, I can’t seem to find the time! I’ve tried showering first thing in the morning, but I can’t open my eyes without coffee. By the time breakfast is over, Nolan and Ephraim are running around, getting into everything, and needing constant supervision. I’ve tried showering at night, but I would rather spend my “free time” watching TV and sipping hot chocolate with my husband than standing in the shower. I don’t mind actually being in the shower, but it just seems like so much work! Maybe it’s the super long hair . . .
5. I don’t eat meat when it still looks like the animal it once was. Chicken wings, fish, shrimp, crab–I just can’t get past it. And while we’re talking about meat, people are crazy about their deer meat around here. The kids have a day off of school on the first day of deer-hunting season. EVERYONE in my church has a deer head (or two, or three) on their walls. I guess I’m still a city girl, because every time someone tries to tell me about getting some venison, I just envision Bambi’s mother in the back of a pick-up truck.
I can totally relate to this one. I have some major issues with meat-chicken especially! Just ask my family or friends!

6. I’m a helicopter mom. I don’t trust my babies to just anyone. I’m the mom who always ends up in the nursery at church because I can always hear Ephraim crying (even when he isn’t). I’ve seen both of my sons every day of their lives. This is one of those streaks that I’m both very proud of, and also kind of nervous to ever let end! I know I can’t keep it up forever, but while they’re still little, I want to soak up as much as possible. But also I’m waiting for Steve to take me on a Caribbean cruise . . .so. . . 🙂
7. I could eat pizza every day. Growing up in Chicago, my taste buds were blessed with the best deep dish and thin crusts in the world! We lived right in the city, and my favorite pizza place was a one-of-a-kind gem only a few blocks away. Here in Pennsylvania, it’s a little bit harder to find a good pizza, but when I find one, I crave it all week long! We’re getting to the point as a family when one pizza isn’t enough, ever since Ephraim started tanking two pieces all by himself.
8. I love hazelnut coffee and drink it every day, but I can’t stand Nutella. It always sounds like a good idea, but every time I’m disappointed. I guess I don’t like mixing nuts with my chocolate! Folger’s Hazelnut has this warm, aromatic and inviting quality to it. The Nutella never tastes like my Folger’s smells. Does that make sense?
What? You can’t stand Nutella? I’m a big fan of both the Folger’s Hazelnut Coffee AND Nutella. 🙂 Have you tried these Nutella Smore Pie Bites? They might change your mind.

9. Pulling weeds is my Everest. Our house came with raised garden beds in the backyard, so I decided to try my hand at growing vegetables and fruit in the summers. I’m okay at growing veggies, but I’m WONDERFUL at growing weeds! The waist-high weeds that appear overnight take daily upkeep. I have gotten sort of OCD about getting all of them. There’s always ONE. MORE. WEED. I just can’t stop. Steve has to pick me up and bring me inside.
10. I’m a hypochondriac. If I discover any bump or bruise or weird thing on my skin, I automatically jump to the worst. I run to my doctor (oftentimes my father-in-law) who always says things like, “You’ll probably live,” or “It’ll grow back,” or “It’s tuberculosis.” In all seriousness, my dad and my sister both passed away from cancer at young ages, so there is a risk factor. But I really do need to live my life with a little less anxiety about it!
11. I’m a spelling and grammar fanatic. I am always scouting for typos. Luckily my husband is just a couple of steps away from getting a PhD in English, so we understand each other. Though he may disagree, I am a better speller than he is 🙂

I always look forward to this series! So fun!!!!
I always love these posts!! So fun!! Any girl who could get behind eating pizza on a daily basis has to be awesome!
So fun getting to know Rachel!
I was laughing out loud reading your bat story! And I 100% agree with you on #5- I moved to a rural area where deer hunting is very popular, but I just can't bring myself to try venison. Very cute post!!
Yay!! I love Rachel's blog! This was so fun to read. Absolutely love this series Erika!
I have never heard anyone say #4 before, but it's so so so true! I only have one girl, and its crazy how much I hate the shower now. Ugh!
I love love both of your blogs!!!! I really enjoyed this!!!!!!:)
These posts rock! Love them. They make me feel normal for being so nutty!

My husband and boys would totally love to put the whole "day off" in place at the start of "deer season". Haha! Such a fun post!
This is my most favorite series of all time! I always think of something new to add to my list of crazy when I read a new post!
Rachel is so fun and her family is adorable. I love her blog!
I love Rachel and her blog! Rachel, you and I would get along great…we could eat pizza everyday (with our boys of course), behind every locked door (I'm paranoid about this), and hide from bats…I would be a freaking mess if there had been bats in my house! My husband wishes I loved pulling weeds…he spends so long doing it and I give him such a hard time. 🙂
Rachel, I love this post and boy do I identify with a lot of your quirks 🙂 I've got a weed trick for you! When you plant your seeds/or already growing plants, lay newspaper down around them. Cover the entirety of the dirt except for where your seed/plant is planted. Then cover over everything with extra dirt. It will keep those dag-on weeds at bay!
who does like showering? 🙂
I've gotten to know Rachel a little bit through emails and she's so sweet. This was such a fun one to read!
Love Rachel's blog & love this post!
I totally agree with two toddler boys if I am by myself with them that finding time to shower seems like such a hassle 🙂
Love it, Rachel!! I'm a total hypochondriac…I used to give a Christmas present to the school nurse haha! I'm also paranoid about locking my doors too! You can't ever be too safe!
Love this series!
I could relate to many of them! Love it!
Rachel is adorable…love following alone with her family. This is one of my favorite series!
What a fun series! 🙂
