First Day…#taketwo

Thursday marked three full weeks of virtual learning so our school district began allowing in person learning.  No one knows if it will continue all year but after virtually learning from home for three weeks we’ve decided we’ll take any in person time we can get.  All three of my kids agree they’re way better learners when they’re in person and while school looks a little different these days they’re choosing to count their blessings.  Seeing people face to face happens to be one of those.

Bowen headed to second grade!  He happens to be in a class with two of his best buds {you know one of them}.  He was floored I made him “dress nice” for the first day of in-person learning but after weeks of school with major bed head I thought it was appropriate.  🙂

Nixon entered fifth grade this year and he’s loving it!  He has several friends in his classes and he’s looking forward to all the fun fifth grade brings.  {Hopefully that still gets to happen.}

Ebby Lee went to middle school!  EEEK!!  She wasn’t near as nervous about this as I was.  If you saw my Insta-Stories last week, you realized I was had all the nervous Mom energy going!  Thank you for all the sweet messages and prayers!  Her first two days were great!  She loves switching classes, having six different teachers, and getting to know lots of new friends.

She carpooled to school on the first day and this was us anxiously awaiting her ride.  I’m certain I was WAY more nervous than she was at this point.

As soon as she left, Britt and I set off on a day full of errands.  We met a few friends for breakfast, went to Target to grab a few things, then made our way to…
a dentist appointment for me.  I can’t even begin to tell you the number of pictures Britt took like this as she waited for me to get my teeth cleaned.

We had some returns to make at the mall, a few things to pick up, and we walked around a bit.

I was attempting a funky vibe with my sneakers and dress.  That morning was nice outside but I walked with neighbors to the elementary school to grab the kids for pick up and had a hot flash/heat stroke on the way.

These four have been friends since they were placed in the same kindergarten class.  They play sports together and have the sweetest friendship.  My favorite thing is hearing them cheer for each other from the dugout after a good hit.  MELTS.  MY.  HEART.

Then I fell off the picture taking train.  We had gymnastics, volleyball practice, and baseball practice all before…
Britt’s Meet the Teacher!

Britt starts Pre-K on Tuesday!  She was super excited about seeing several friends from her class last year.  This year will also look a little different for her, but I think her school is doing such a great job to keep everyone safe.

It’s gonna be a great school year!  The Slaughters are looking forward to it!

    My son just started his 6th day of in person learning and I was thinking the same thing as you — we'll take in person learning in any form we can get! Our district is hoping and praying they can make it at least through the end of October (when the freshman get to pick what shops they'll focus on for the next 4 years) before having to go fully distance learning. Only time will tell but I am so hopeful!!
