Entertainment with Erika

It’s that time again!  Time for some entertainment reviews.  I must tell you that I have such a hard time remembering what a book is about-even if I LOVE the book-the second I turn the last page I can’t remember a thing.  I’ve now started adding some notes on my phone every time I get finished just so I don’t forget.  Let’s see if that helps.  ðŸ™‚

This is what I’ve been reading…

Shay gave me this book to read right before we moved last year.  It got packed up and forgotten about until just recently.  I must tell you I was a bit intimidated because it’s pretty big.  Am I the only one who feels like big books are such a commitment?  I usually reach for the thinner ones first.  ðŸ™‚  This book was about an average American girl who falls in love with the Prince, Great Britain’s future king.  Sounds easy enough, right?  WRONG!  This novel details all the hoops you have to jump through when dating a member of the royal family.  It was a cute girly book that I highly recommend to you guys!

Who knew Katie Lee wrote novels, right?  This is her novel debut about a divorced woman who needs to do a little soul searching and ends up learning a lot about herself through surfing.  A super cute little beach read for sure!

I’m a big Boo Mama fan.  Do you guys read her blog?  You should.  ðŸ™‚  Anyway, this is her third book and it’s a little different from the first.  I REALLY enjoyed this one.  Her first two were more funny stories she’s recollecting about her childhood or life.  This one is all about how women need each other-no matter the age we can learn something from one another.  She finds correlations between women in the Bible and her real-life funny stories and it’s just good.  Sometimes with Christian books I have a hard time picking up the book and reading all the way through.  I want to stay focused so I almost need to read one or two chapters and take a break.  This book is not like that.  I could have read from beginning to end in one setting.  It’s my favorite Sophie Hudson book to date.  Check it out!

I’ve read one or two other Elin Hilderbrand novels, but this one was GOOD.  I was hooked early on.  Three friends have a standing tradition of going to the beach, having a late night swim, and enjoying good food/drinks.  This time they begin sharing secrets.  One girl jumps in the water and never surfaces.  The town of Nantucket is on the search for her and I was in suspense the ENTIRE book.  If you’re a chick-lit fan, this is a good one!

I know I’m the odd girl out when I say it, but I feel like I must…this just wasn’t my favorite book.  It took forever (in my opinion) for the plot to thicken so to speak.  Again, I know most of you will not agree, but I just needed something to happen sooner.  I’ll definitely watch the movie and let you know what I think about it.  This novel is about a girl who goes to work for a man who due to a motorcycle accident has lost his will to live.  The relationship blossoms and she does everything she can to get him to enjoy life.  I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll stop there.  ðŸ™‚

I really enjoyed this Hilderbrand novel as well!  In this book, Meredith has just lost everything-connections to her family, her home, her marriage, etc.  She leans on a long lost friend to find her way back to true happiness.  It’s suspenseful and a great beach read.  I didn’t want to put it down!

What I’m Currently Reading…

I can’t wait to share what I think about these two books.

What I’m Watching…

It is GREAT television time for me!  ðŸ™‚

Big Brother-oh my goodness!  I LOVE that show!  Who are your favorites?  I’m still #teamjames and #teamfrank.  Frank is GOOD at this game.  I’m enjoying Mama Day WAY more this time around than last season.  For the newbies, I don’t have a favorite just yet.  I’m on the fence.

Real Housewives of Orange County-whoa!  I’m so ready to see this entire season play out!

The Bachelorette-Can’t wait to see hometowns!  They have to be coming up soon, right?  Hometown dates might be my favorite week of the entire season.

Real Housewives of New York-these ladies just might be my faves.  ðŸ™‚

Your turn…what are YOU watching and reading right now??  I always love book recommendations.  Please pass it my way if you have something!  Thank you!

Erika, have you seen Me Before You the movie?? It's really sweet and the acting is great! I really enjoyed it. I haven't read the book though, normally the books are better than the film but maybe on this one, that's not the case!
I vote for a bachelorette watching party, the hometown dates would be a good one because it's not 3 hours long like the finale. 😉

great book recs Erika! I've placed several of them on hold @ our library :)…and as for the TV watching – BB- oh my gracious!! frank is one of my all time favs!!! now if they'll just bring back Brittany I'll be all set. 😉 and I agree about mama day, I was none to pleased to see her face again, but she's growin on me. Bronte's voice is in a tie with Whitney from the bachelor for most annoying on reality TV! Haha!

I loved the Royal We. I think it took me like 4 or 5 days to read since I read it over our Dallas trip but I was reading it every chance I got. And yes, it took me a while to get in to Me Before You but once I did, I was hooked and the movie is good! If the book made you cry, the movie will too!

I love all the Real Housewive shows….well not all. I didn't like Dallas AT ALL….but the other ones are awesome and I am looking forward to the New Jersey one starting this weekend! and I love the OC ladies! I love Elin Hildebrand and just bought her latest book. Me Before You was hard to get into but once I did- I loved it and cried that ugly cry. The movie is fabulous. Watch it for sure. Me After You is so good too but again, was hard to get into but once I did…..I loved it!

I completely agree with you about Me Before You!! I just thought it was ok, almost ehhh. I'm a crier and get emotionally invested in books but I didn't cry or even get weepy with this book at all. I thought it was very slow and easy to put down. I did appreciate how it was realistic though and I felt the ending did make sense with the characters (like if it was real life, it would have ending that way).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who couldn't get into Me Before You. By "not get into", I mean I thought it was boring and lame. I didn't even get through the first 3 chapters before I flung it away #notevensorry.

I just finished reading All The Light We Cannot See…and WOW. I mean, WOW. It was heavy and heartbreaking but amazing.

The Royal We intimidated me too at first because it was so big. I am a fast reader in the summer but when I read this one it was right in the middle of teaching my first graders. 6 weeks and a $1.20 in library late fees later I finished it and loved it. Thanks for your reviews. I really enjoyed reading about them!
