College Roomie Weekend

This past Saturday morning my friend, Erin (who lives in Ft. Worth), picked me up and we drove to the bustling metropolis of Texarkana to meet our other college roommate Carrie (who lives in Little Rock).  We chose Texarkana because it was almost exactly halfway and when we get together we end up doing nothing but a lot of chatting.  We could have cared less where we were.  We just had fun catching up!

We met up at Ta Molly’s for lunch.  For those of you who live near a Ta Molly’s you must know this was our favorite college place.  We ate there all the time!  I thought it’d be super nostalgic.  But like all things, years later they just aren’t exactly like you remembered.  I promise you in my head it was DELICIOUS!  Fun times anyway!

We then took Dillard’s by storm.  Since we needed nothing from Fancy Pantz (not even kidding that was a store in the mall), we decided to head to the hotel to get checked-in.  We spent a couple hours chatting it up in our room and then went out to dinner.

Yesterday…we slept in, got up dressed, and headed out to a yummy breakfast before our 24 hour girl’s getaway was over.  This weekend was just good for my soul.  These girls have seen me at some of my highest highs and some of my lowest lows.  They hold a special place in my heart and I’m so thankful we got away for a while (even if it’s only 24 hours).

I must share one of the funniest college stories I have.  We reminisced about this one for sure…

One of these girls (I won’t tell you which) went grocery shopping at the main grocery store in town.  It was located off a four lane road with a turn lane in the middle so it sit on a busy street.  (Arkansas State friends, we’re talking Caraway!!)  After shopping, she was returning her cart to the cart return and she pushed it instead of walking it all the way over.  Somehow it missed the return, but she was already walking back to her car so she didn’t notice.  Until it was too late.  She turned on her car, started driving, and saw her cart gaining speed heading into the STREET!!!

Now let’s all pause for a second.  What would you have done?  I mean.  A total accident.  This grocery store was on a hill, so the cart missed the return and starts rolling down the hill to the road.  Seriously, what would you have done??

I would have started sweating and maybe even gotten hives.  #nolie

But…so my friend FREAKS out quietly in her car and watches as the cart rolls all the way into the road!!  I will never forget her coming back to our apartment and telling me the story.  We could NOT STOP laughing.  Seriously, what are the odds??  It’s one of those stories that makes me laugh out loud if I even start thinking about it.

Those college days were so much fun!

Oh, and I’m happy to report that somehow no car or person was hurt during the entire cart debacle.

Hope you have a fabulous Monday!!

I had a weekend with college girls two years ago and we had THE BEST TIME! I'm going to send a group e-mail right now so we can plan one again. It's so hard to get everybody together, but it's SO WORTH IT!!!!

Haha, I have some great stories like that with my college roomies. We do an annual weekend together too – and it never matters where we are, just being together is what makes the weekend!

Sounds fun! My sister just moved to Magnolia Arkansas from Michigan. I'm visiting in a few weeks. We will be in Little Rock and Hot Springs; any recommendations for the trip or for her in Magnolia/Texarkana?

I live in Texarkana. It truly is a great small town. My favorite restaurants if you ever come back are Twisted Fork, Ironwood Grill and Zapatas. Our mall isn't the best but we are fortunate to have many boutiques in town. You just needed a local to give you the inside scoop!

    That story is hilarious!!
Some of my family lives in Texarkana, so I visit pretty often. There are a couple of cute boutiques there, but the mall does leave something to be desired. 🙂
