A Tag Along Trip

This past weekend Tab had a work lunch in Houston on Friday and he was officiating the Iowa State versus The University of Texas football in Austin on Saturday.  The kiddos happened to be all in between sports so we decided we’d all tag along.  Who doesn’t want five extra people on their work trip with them?  hahaha!  I figured he wouldn’t even notice we were there.  {Insert eye rolls}

As soon as the kiddos were out of school on Thursday, we grabbed them and headed for Houston.

This is what a hotel room with six people looks like.  🙂  A king, a pull out sleeper sofa, AND a roll away.  We stayed at the Marriott in the Woodlands, which just happened to be housing a holiday market.  We strolled around the outside vendors snagging some super cute Christmas goodies!

Then it was time to head out for the day!

Our boys were WAY behind on haircuts so we headed straight to Great Clips to get new cuts.

Doesn’t everyone get a haircut on a weekend getaway?

We dropped Tab and the boys off for the work lunch while we hit up Old Navy.  There weren’t any malls close so we decided we’d stroll around Old Navy and then grab some lunch.

This cutie was my booth mate.  🙂

My lunch dates were CUTE!  Right?

This was our lunch spot…Spanky’s.  The pizza was delicious!

Then we grabbed the boys and made our way over to Austin.

Shay had been telling me how much I’d love a Kindle and I just didn’t think I’d like it.  But…here’s my secret, I LOVE my kindle!!!  If you’ve been on the fence, I totally recommend you trying one.  It’d made the perfect gift for a reader of any age!

I finished this book on the drive.  🙂

WE MADE IT TO AUSTIN!

These cutie were nothing but help unloading our car…can you tell?!

We met up with Tab’s officiating crew at Terry Black’s Barbecue for dinner.  Give me ALL the bbq sauce!  It was delicious!

We finished early and made our way over to the state capitol.

It was absolutely gorgeous all lit up.

The next morning, Tab and Nixon left early for pre-game meetings.  {Nixon just likes to tag along.}  The rest of us slept in and grabbed breakfast before we made our way out and about.  My jacket arrived right before I left…Long-waisted girls-I ordered it in a “tall” and it was absolutely perfect.  It’s crazy thin so keep that in mind.  Definitely not gonna keep you warm in a snow storm, but a football game with a light breeze?  Well, it’ll be absolutely perfect!

Our first stop was the bookstore…we love hitting up each and every college bookstore.  This one happened to be three stories and housed a ton of CUTE gear!

The weather was AMAZING so we took a nice long stroll around campus.

Well, that was the plan but we got held up at the turtle pond.

I’m telling you-the weather couldn’t have been more perfect!

Then we made a quick stop at a park on the way to meet the bus for the game.

I’ve gotta pause and tell you-this kid was a trooper.  He woke up on Saturday with fever blisters and his six-year-molars were working their way in as well.  Needless to say, he didn’t feel great, but he was a champ and rolled with the punches.

This girl turned three and somehow began looking like a teenager.

We rode the bus with the crew which means we arrived to the game WAY early.

We played on the field for a LONG time.

These two are the sweetest sisters.  🙂

I’ve gotta be honest…taking four kiddos to a football game {most of the time} solo isn’t easy, but we love getting to tag along on these football trips.  I know they’re memories our entire family will remember for a lifetime.  #makingmemories

It was the perfect GAME DAY!

This family is one of our very favorites…Lyndon and Tab have been on the same crew for YEARS!  We love them and their girls!

I’m telling you-she’s getting so big!

Nixon snuck off to take a few pictures inside…Nixon was at this game, Red River Showdown, this year too!

We had field passes to watch the game from the field, but we had a lot of time to kill before it was game time.  We decided after seeing the crowds we’d stay inside the gate.  There were SO MANY PEOPLE outside!

Britt was trying to console Bowen-at this point, he’d asked for a breakfast taco.  When I assured him there were no breakfast tacos inside the stadium, he didn’t take it well.  #hegetsitfromhismama

We saw the players and band march in.

And then we watched warm-ups from the sidelines.

We spotted Bevo…I’ll post a video on Instagram today…somehow Nixon ended up right in the middle of the Bevo/smoke practice.  Oops!

Slaughter girls on the sidelines.

We made our way over to our seats and found our favorite longhorn, Ms. Brittany.  Isn’t she the cutest?

This was the scene just a few minutes after the game had started.  Bowen.  Was.  Out.

It was Senior Night for the Longhorns and I MAY have gotten a little emotional about it.  Anyone else?

Bless his heart.

We hung out in our seats until right after halftime.  This is the first time I’ve had field passes {along with the kiddos} where we could have watched the entire game on the sidelines.  We walked over to the officials’ locker room and I felt like I was breaking all the rules walking around the field with four kids!  haha!  #butnoonestoppedus

Bowen was chilly so we got him all snuggly and we loaded up on snacks and drinks.

This girl didn’t hate having the place to ourselves.

We watched in comfy chairs and it was absolutely fabulous!

The Texas Longhorns were celebrating their 500th game in this stadium so they hosted a fabulous fireworks’ show right after the game.

While we watched the firework show,  this was Bowen in the locker room…

He.  Was.  Out.  Again.

By the time we took the bus back, we crawled into bed at midnight!  All six of us were exhausted!

And then we didn’t open our eyes until 9:00 a.m!  It was FABULOUS!

We headed to a little breakfast taco joint someone at our hotel had recommended, Tyson’s Tacos.  The breakfast tacos were DELICIOUS, but there were birds flying in/out.  One of us left with not one but TWO little accidents on his sweatshirt thanks to the birds.  UGH!

Whew!  What a WEEKEND!

Hope you enjoyed your weekend too!  See you back here tomorrow!

XO

Poor Bowen! ☹️ Hope he’s feeling better. Does Tab only officiate college games or does he do some pro games too? Either way – what a fun experience for the kids!

Bowen was such a trooper. After all he had been through I hope it wasn't him who had the bird droppings land on him. Poor kid lol. So many great pictures and by the way I lose it every time at a senior night sports event…it's bad!!

We are huge Iowa State fans, and when you said you were going along to Tab's game I wondered if this was the one. When I saw Tab on the tv I said to my husband "OMG that is Erika Slaughter's husband!!!!" He didn't quite get it but I was excited 🙂 I read your blog every day and love it!!
